Natural God's Gift
#78 - Three forms of silkworms
The Fragrant Vine Mountain Lord led the Ziyun Trading Company to an area planted with rows of tall mulberry trees. The mulberry forest in the spring exuded a vibrant, energetic atmosphere.
Sunlight filtered through the tender green mulberry leaves, casting dappled shadows that added a touch of mystery and romance to the woodland. A gentle breeze rustled the leaves, and the silkworms on them made soft, rustling sounds as they nibbled.
On the forest floor, tender green grasses peeked out from the soil, complementing the surrounding mulberry trees and creating a harmonious natural scene. In the distance, a small stream gurgled by, its sound intermingling with the rustling of the leaves, creating a tranquil and peaceful atmosphere.
The Fragrant Vine Mountain Lord danced lightly in the air, using mental power to summon the warriors in the mulberry forest to take over its duties. To the surprise of the little spiders, a huge silkworm, more than half a meter in diameter, two or three meters long, plump and white, crawled out of the mulberry forest, trampling the tender green grass.
The Fragrant Vine Mountain Lord slightly bowed to the Ziyun Mountain Lord and said, "Ziyun Mountain Lord, I still have to guard the pass. Next, the Feather-Split Mountain Lord will lead you to the interior of the tribe."
"Thank you. I also have two younger relatives, Longya and Tiexian, who have gone to Red Camellia Mountain to trade. When they come over, please ask the Fragrant Vine Mountain Lord to let them pass," the Ziyun Mountain Lord said politely.
"It's no problem," the Fragrant Vine Mountain Lord responded briefly, flapping its huge wings and returning to the pass at the mountain entrance.
The Ziyun Mountain Lord then greeted the large, fat silkworm, "Feather-Split Mountain Lord, how have you been lately?"
From the words, it could be seen that they were quite familiar with each other.
"Not bad," the large, fat silkworm raised its head and glanced at Baizhi, who was secretly eating mulberries. "Ziyun Mountain Lord, is this spider your direct descendant?"
Torch Mountain Lord quickly denied the relationship between them, "No, it is a Primal Flame Spider. It is not of our lineage, same tribe, same tribe, just the same tribe."
"No wonder," the large, fat silkworm said plainly, "I was just thinking, the clever Ziyun Mountain Lord shouldn't have such a stupid junior."
Fourleaf:
...
Baizhi:
........
Baizhi's teeth were on edge from the sourness of the mulberries. If the large, fat silkworm in front of it wasn't so big, it would definitely argue with it. In response, the Ziyun Mountain Lord could only tap Baizhi's head with a strand of spider silk.
Fourleaf also took the green mulberry from Baizhi's claws and threw it away. It was really too embarrassing for the carapace.
"The little warrior is indeed a bit greedy. Feather-Split Mountain Lord, please don't mind these details. Please take us to the trading square."
"Follow me." The large, fat silkworm turned its body and led the way towards the core of the mountain range.
The Feather-Split Mountain Lord seemed clumsy, but in fact, its eight abdominal feet moved very quickly. A gentle push with its tail feet would propel it several meters, completely unlike an ordinary silkworm's slow pace.
The spiders of the Ziyun Trading Company followed behind the Feather-Split Mountain Lord at a leisurely pace. The trees and bushes on both sides of the road were also mulberry trees. From time to time, silkworms that resembled dead branches, standing still, would be startled by the passing spiders and move their bodies. The sight of countless dead branches wriggling was a bit horrifying.
However, after seeing the swarms of mosquitoes flying all over the sky at Bloodvine Lake, the little warriors were no longer surprised by these silkworms. Could the silkworms of Mulberry Ridge be denser than the mosquito swarms?
The trading company followed the Feather-Split Mountain Lord to the center of the mountain range. In the deep, secluded mountains, a huge earthen square was hidden.
The ground of the square was paved with hard earth and stone. After the passage of time, the surface had become smooth and ancient. The square was surrounded by dense trees, their branches stretching towards the sky, forming a natural barrier that isolated the square from the outside world.
Upon arriving at the square, the Feather-Split Mountain Lord said, "Ziyun Mountain Lord, you can set up camp in the trading square. I will go and notify Lord Wind-Tamer."
Ziyun Mountain Lord: "Thank you for your trouble."
After the Feather-Split Mountain Lord left, the spiders of the Ziyun Trading Company found a shady spot, unloaded the goods from their backs, and then spat out their life seeds to take root on the edge of the square.
The little spiders also climbed down from the Ziyun Mountain Lord's head to observe the surroundings. All they could see were various kinds of mulberry plants. Fourleaf exclaimed, "There are so many mulberry trees here."
Torch Mountain Lord: "They are the Silkmoth Clan. The larvae feed on mulberry leaves, so naturally, they mainly plant mulberry trees. On this Mulberry Ridge mountain range, the Silkmoth Clan has planted at least millions of mulberry trees. That's a very impressive number."
Fourleaf was very curious about the two Mountain Lords they had just met and asked in confusion, "Torch Mountain Lord, the Fragrant Vine Mountain Lord is a moth, so why is the Feather-Split Mountain Lord a silkworm? Aren't they the same race?"
Baizhi: "According to my inherited memories, silkworms can turn into large moths. The Fragrant Vine Mountain Lord must have also transformed from a silkworm into a large moth."
Fourleaf: "But are there such big silkworms?"
In its memory, silkworms were the white, plump little creatures on the trees around the forest. The Feather-Split Mountain Lord was just too big.
Baizhi was speechless, as this involved an area it was unfamiliar with.
Torch Mountain Lord said calmly, "The Silkmoth Clan has three forms in its lifetime. The first form is the black, thin silkworm that comes out of the egg. From the black little silkworm to the white, plump big silkworm, this belongs to the first form.
After shedding its skin four times, the silkworm becomes an adult silkworm. After accumulating nutrients, the adult silkworm will form a cocoon.
The pupa then molts once more to become a silkmoth."
Fourleaf: "But why is the Feather-Split Mountain Lord still a silkworm? Hasn't it metamorphosed into a silkmoth?"
Torch Mountain Lord: "That's another reason."
"Silkworms have three forms, and each form needs a certain amount of time to grow. During the growth period of the silkmoth, it is possible to receive the favor of the Nature God and transform into a Primal Force Warrior.
If a silkmoth transforms into a Primal Force Warrior during its larval stage, it can control itself from evolving into a silkworm or silkmoth, and continue to evolve in age while maintaining the body of a silkworm."
The little spiders were even more puzzled, "Is there any benefit to continuing to evolve in the body of a silkworm? Isn't it better to evolve into a silkmoth and fly in the sky?
If I were the Feather-Split Mountain Lord, I would definitely evolve into the appearance of the Fragrant Vine Mountain Lord."
Greenfield Mountain Lord interjected, "There are of course benefits to the Feather-Split Mountain Lord choosing to remain in silkworm form.
The Silkmoth Clan has a talent ability: they can accumulate powerful primal energy in their plump bodies during the silkworm stage.
Normally, age evolution only consumes a small portion of the energy in their bodies for molting. However, if they encounter an insurmountable evolution crisis during a major stage evolution, they can transform from a silkworm into a pupa to overcome the difficulty with the least amount of danger.
For example, when a high-level warrior evolves into a Mountain Lord level, 50% of the insectoids have difficulty overcoming this hurdle, but the Silkmoth Clan can transform from a silkworm into a pupa, increasing the probability of success to 80% or 90%, essentially gaining an extra life."
"Oh," the little spiders were both shocked and envious, and learned new knowledge.
Torch Mountain Lord showed off, "There are more than 17,000 species of butterflies in the Primal Force Star Realm, and only a small number of butterflies have this ability."
Seeing the two Mountain Lords finished educating the little warriors, Ziyun Mountain Lord said, "Torch, Greenfield, rest for a while.
Peony, Peony, Baizhi, Fourleaf, you four little spiders play in the trading square. Don't hurt the silkworms and moths. When you have nothing to do, read more books, learn to read, and learn more knowledge, so that you won't be called uneducated by the insects in the future."
"Oh, got it!" The little spiders lowered their heads. They still didn't recognize many words.
Some spiders were even more outrageous, learning on one side and forgetting on the other. As for which spider it was specifically, they wouldn't say.
