New Gods of North America
Watching the show
Late that night, the detective agency received a message from Priest Tyrrell.
The next day, Wayne arrived at a manor in the suburbs of Richmond as agreed, and met Priest Tyrrell in a guest room on the third floor of the main house.
Priest Tyrrell usually had a smile on his face, and although his old face wasn't exactly handsome even when he smiled, at least it made people feel that he was showing goodwill and closeness.
At this moment, his face was expressionless, which made him look much more serious.
He led Wayne to the window and pointed to a carriage parked under a tree in the courtyard:
"Do you see that carriage? Some things are inconvenient for my people to investigate directly, but they may be related to the cathedral assassination case. I need you to arrange some people who haven't shown their faces in Richmond to follow up."
Wayne craned his neck. "Whose carriage is that?"
"I don't know."
Priest Tyrrell may have felt the suspicion behind Wayne's eyes, and then explained, "That was sent by Walter. The guy who came in that carriage is waiting in the reception room to meet me. I found that Walter seems to be hiding something in this incident, but I can't determine his intention yet."
Mr. Walter... the intelligence organization on the postal system side...
What? Do you also suspect that this matter is still related to the locals?
Wayne quickly sorted out his thoughts and chose to inquire about more information first, "What is he here for?"
Priest Tyrrell carefully chose his words:
"After I talked with Walter, he said that he had some clues about the murderer and his accomplices and could provide them to us. The person who is here now should be the one who is specifically handling this matter."
"With my understanding of Walter, he usually doesn't easily offer chips that can be used for trading. I feel that he is being a little too generous this time."
Ah?
No, I also met with Mr. Walter alone. He not only knew that the detective agency was investigating the assassination case recently, but also arranged surveillance points near our temporary base. Why didn't he reveal any information to me?
Is it because a small character like me is not qualified to be at the table?
Knowing that Priest Tyrrell and Mr. Walter are considered "one of us," Wayne tried to speculate in a positive direction:
"A related person I investigated was attacked last night. It was Mr. Morier, whom you met last time. Could it be that my investigation has involved the target of the local intelligence organization and disrupted some of their previous plans?"
Priest Tyrrell's eyes narrowed slightly, as if he was talking to himself, "So the so-called 'Frank' refers to him?"
Then Priest Tyrrell looked at Wayne again: "Is he still alive? What is his background?"
Wayne nodded, "He was slightly injured, but it's not a big problem." Then he briefly explained the situation Lina had investigated.
After listening, Priest Tyrrell quickly made a judgment:
"The Norton family shouldn't have any business with the Franks now. Walter is willing to push him out, which also shows that this person's value in this case is not great. It seems that the assassination case may really be related to MI7..."
"You can observe the appearance and features of the person getting into the carriage later, but it's best not to appear in their sight for the time being. You can follow this lead first and check what inside information Walter has."
Wayne didn't expect that a small assassination case could involve so many international friends, and now even the name of MI7 has emerged.
He didn't mind following up on this new lead, but there was still a small problem:
"Investigation is no problem, but all the detectives who came to our detective agency have appeared in public. There are no completely new faces who can be sent to investigate the local intelligence organization."
Not to mention the detectives who came to Richmond, even the few who stayed in Georgeburg, it probably wouldn't be difficult for the local intelligence organization to recognize them.
Priest Tyrrell had a "why not eat meat porridge" expression, "Don't you have some hidden manpower in your hands?"
Of course not. I run a detective agency, not a hidden organization.
The detectives at most just play a role during the investigation, and they usually don't deliberately hide their identities. They can deceive gentlemen, but they can't guard against villains.
Why don't you lend me another team?
Unexpectedly, before Wayne could say anything, Priest Tyrrell preempted him:
"My people are not suitable for investigating our own people. Internal relationships are too mixed. It's okay to perform other tasks, but it's easy to leak information when doing this kind of thing. You still need to find a way on your own in this matter."
"But I have a hunch that once we can figure out what Walter is hiding, we will not be far from the truth of this case."
Um...
After Priest Tyrrell left, Wayne pondered for a long time and found that among the people available in the detective agency, only Damon McReady, Cowardly Peter, and Liam had relatively few public appearances.
If the local intelligence organization hadn't been paying special attention, they might have really missed them.
If there's really no other choice, we'll have to send a few detectives back to guard the house first...
...
"I've already come to the New World, why do I still have to continue to fight against the local official secret organization..."
Priest Tyrrell personally sent the other party to the carriage. After Wayne confirmed the target's appearance in the manor, the carriage followed all the way to the urban area of Richmond.
Wayne got out of the carriage halfway and asked Sanders to continue following the target until he found out where the other party was staying. Wayne himself returned to the temporary base and internally reported the matter, and then saw Lina starting to tear her hair out.
Wayne tried to comfort her, "It's okay, we can still go back to the West. The postman in Black Rock Town is from the town and shouldn't have too much contact with the intelligence organization here."
"That's not necessarily true..." Lina muttered again.
Inessa brought the topic back to business:
"So the local intelligence organization actually knew the identity of the assassin in the assassination case, and also had information about their gang. Then why didn't they tell the people of the church after the investigation was launched in the cathedral?"
"It should still be because of the so-called 'Southern' and 'Northern' faction differences," Wayne tried to express his opinion.
According to "Floor Manager," no, according to Priest Paxil's memory in Little Octopus's brain,
The local church in Virginia already has a bit of a "rivaling" meaning in this regard. Since Mr. Walter is closer to Priest Tyrrell and the others, his relationship with the cathedral may be more general. Under non-essential circumstances, he may not actively provide clues.
Maybe it's like when Sun Wukong wreaked havoc in the Heavenly Palace. It looks like a bunch of big shots are present, but in reality, only a few names are really contributing, mainly to "save face."
As for the specific situation, it is estimated that people who are in it know better.
