One Guard

Chapter 1: Journey to Long Beach

The California sunshine is always relaxing, and the blue sky with white clouds makes this place a vacation paradise. It’s no wonder that California becomes a holy place for people to travel every summer. Even many NBA stars choose to spend their vacations in California. In addition, this year the Los Angeles Lakers won the first championship trophy after O'Neal left under the leadership of Kobe and Gasol, which added a lot of popularity to California.

A man in a suit and leather shoes walked in a long and narrow alley. This dirty and dark alley didn't quite match the sunny weather in California.

"Damn it! If I had known that I was asked to come to this kind of place, I would have rejected that guy!" The man in a suit and leather shoes cursed, and a well-dressed guy like him walked in a slum where people of color gathered, is very striking. After he walked into this alley, many people had already cast malicious glances at him.

Although they belong to California, the place where the man in the suit and leather shoes is located is not the star-studded Los Angeles, but the satellite city of Los Angeles, Long Beach.

Long Beach is certainly just as beautiful and has the same mesmerizing California weather. But behind this glamorous city, it has the highest crime rate in California.

This is also the reason why the man kept cursing. A person like him walking in the slums of Long Beach City is very likely to encounter accidents. To put it a bit exaggerated, he is now working with his own life!

Just as the man was looking around, a few black men in hip-hop clothes came out from the corner in front of them. And it was obvious that one of them was holding a pistol in his hand.

"Hey, look at this guy, what's the matter, white pig, are you lost?" A group of people looked at the man from a distance, and couldn't help laughing loudly.

"Calm down, Happy, you have to be calm..." The man kept comforting himself in his heart, he believed that as long as he didn't speak, the other party wouldn't hurt him for no reason.

In Long Beach, especially in places like The Woods, shootings happen from time to time. In the United States, the hatred between races is much greater than people imagine. Anything can happen to Happy now.

Happy walked his own way with his head down, and the group of suspected gang members passed by Happy. They looked up and down the well-dressed "uninvited guest", and from time to time they would laugh exaggeratedly and comment on him. But thankfully for Happy, nothing happened!

The group of people just brushed past him, that's all. Happy now just wants to thank God, when he gets out of here, he will never come to such a place again in his life!

Watching the group of gangsters slowly go away, Happy also relaxed his vigilance. He continued to search according to the address in his hand, looking for a guy who interested his employer very much.

As a college basketball scout, Happy should know all about basketball talent across America. But he had never heard of the name given to him by the team coach. Anyway, the coach was his boss, and the coach said I needed this guy to play for me, and Happy had to find this guy. Even if he searched all over Long Beach, Happy had to do it. After all, this is directly related to his job.

Just when Happy was thinking wildly, he felt himself being pushed hard suddenly. Happy was pushed against the wall by this sudden force. If Happy guessed correctly, he should have been robbed!

"Wallet!" Sure enough, a man's voice came from behind Happy, and a cold sharp knife was already on Happy's neck.

"Hey, it's easy to say anything, can you put the knife down first, buddy." Happy's face was pressed against the wall, and he couldn't see what his robber looked like. His left hand was pressed firmly behind his back by the visitor, unable to move.

He wanted to break free, but he was afraid that the knife would stab into his body at any time.

"Wallet!" The man behind him yelled again, and the hand holding the knife was a little harder. It seemed that this guy didn't intend to give Happy any leeway.

"Damn it, fuck the basketball genius!" Happy cursed, fumbling in his suit pocket with his free right hand.

"Take the money and return the wallet to me. There are photos of my family and various identification information in it. All you want is money, right!?" Happy raised the wallet, which was immediately taken away by the man behind him.

"If you cooperate, I will only take money. If you don't cooperate, I may kill you!" The man continued to threaten, but it was obvious that this guy was a novice, because when he got the wallet, the knife It actually left Happy's neck!

Harpy took the opportunity to exert a sudden force and turned around sharply. He was considered a basketball star in college back then, and he can do these moves with ease.

The robber's knife was photographed on the ground. Seeing that something was wrong, the robber quickly pulled out the banknotes, dropped his wallet and ran away!

I have to admit that this guy who robbed ran really fast. If you play basketball, it will definitely become a sharp knife in transition offense.

Happy shook his head and picked up the purse that had been emptied. He took a general look, and everything was there except money.

But the looter just now really left a deep impression on Happy. Although he covered half of his face with a bandanna, it still couldn't hide his yellow skin and outstanding height.

That's right, it wasn't a black man who robbed Happy just now, but a genuine Asian! From the looks of it, the guy was pretty young. And this Asian guy still has braids that black people like to get. It can be said that it made a sensitive scout like Happy never forget.

"It's the children who live here... hey." Happy sighed. The status of Asians in the United States is not much higher than that of blacks. In this slum with a high crime rate, in addition to blacks, Asians and other people of color also account for a large proportion.

Most of the children living here will go astray, and some even face imprisonment before they reach adulthood. Rather than being afraid, Harpy is now more sympathetic to the people living here.

After narrowly escaping, Happy also knew that he couldn't keep wandering around in this kind of place. He must find the address as soon as possible and find out the basketball genius that the coach appreciates very much. Then finish everything, go back to Indianapolis, and tell your coach that he will never come to a place like this to find someone again!

After another ten minutes, Happy finally discovered with ecstasy that the apartment in front of him was exactly the same as the address written on the paper!

Downstairs of this apartment is a simple street basketball court surrounded by barbed wire. But Happy knows that many NCAA superstars, even NBA superstars, also walked out of such dilapidated basketball courts.

Seeing the basketball court, Happy finally got some comfort in his heart. At least for a while, what I want to see is a child who is playing hard, and I am very likely to change the fate of that child.

"Fifth floor, room 507, this is it!" After a long circle, Happy finally came to the door of his destination. He tidied up his suit, his bow tie was a little messed up by the robbery he had just encountered.

"Where did you get the money?" Before Happy could knock on the door, a woman's voice came from inside the room. But obviously, she didn't speak English.

"I just went to a fast food restaurant to earn money, so don't ask mom, let's use the money to buy you a new pair of shoes, and we can have a big meal at night." Another man appeared in the room voice, but he didn't speak English either.

"Dong dong dong!" Happy still knocked on the door, interrupting the conversation of the people in the room. In any case, he didn't want to wait any longer.

"Who?" The man in the room asked nervously. This time, he spoke English.

"Excuse me, is this Mrs. Yi's house?" Happy replied politely.

"Who are you looking for?" The man in the house asked again, but he didn't seem to want to open the door.

"Okay, Yiyang, let me open the door and have a look." The woman's footsteps were getting closer and closer to Happy, and she seemed to stop in front of the cat to look, and finally, the door finally opened.

Happy was all smiles and was about to introduce himself to the lady who answered the door. However, in the next second, his smile froze.

Because the Asian boy standing in the room at the moment had a whip clipper on his head, was still holding the green bandanna in his hand, and was still wearing the black short-sleeved T-shirt. Happy is sure that this boy is the one who robbed him just now!

"My mother was robbed by a basketball genius!? A basketball genius, will become a robber!?" Happy said to himself in surprise, today's experience is really amazing...
