One Piece: Kaido the Beast Playing House

Chapter 289 Prequel to the O'Hara Incident (Part 1)

More than two months ago, Barrett, who was wandering around the world, came to O'Hara Island. At first, his arrival did not attract anyone's attention. Although he was tall, there were many tall people in this world. As long as it was not too outrageous, there was no problem. Moreover, Barrett was wearing a cloak and paid the docking fee. There was no pirate logo on his catapult, so naturally no one stopped him. Barrett just wandered around the island.

It must be said that although O'Hara is a world-renowned island of scholars, it is not prosperous, and the islanders living here are not very smart. The reputation of the entire island is supported by the scholars in the center of the island. The people in these peripheral cities are not even as good as many ordinary people. They are so ignorant even though they are so close to the world's largest library. This is not a mockery, but a statement of fact.

In these people's minds, scholars are not people worthy of respect, but a group of freaks, which makes Barrett frown unconsciously. He doesn't understand why these people are like this. Barrett considers himself a rough man. He has always believed in the power of fists, but this does not mean that he looks down on scholars. After all, the weapons he uses and the catapults he drives are all developed by scholars and then made by craftsmen. In his opinion, the people here are simply unreasonable.

For this reason, Barrett did not stay in the village for long, but chose to go to the Tree of All-Knowledge in the center of the island. After all, his original destination was there to visit Captain Roger's old friend.

"Bang, bang, bang." Barrett knocked on the huge door of the Tree of All-Knowledge Library. He could hear footsteps inside, but he waited against the door for a while, but there was no response. He knocked again, but there was still no response. What's going on? Can't the people inside hear it?

"Hello, sir." Just when Barrett was a little impatient, a timid voice came from his side. Barrett looked back and found that it was a girl who looked only five or six years old, standing there in tattered clothes, looking at him with some fear.

"Hello, child, what are you doing here?" Barrett squatted down. He didn't think this was a scholar here. After all, such a young child, even in the endless war country, such a big child was still training, not going to the battlefield, not to mention a profession like a scholar that requires time to accumulate.

"Well, I see you have been knocking on this. This is not the gate. This is just a decoration. The real gate is on the other side." The little girl pointed to the side. Her movements were a little trembling. Barrett thought she was afraid at first, but soon he found that it was not right. The child's arm was bent at the wrong degree, and there was an obvious pause when bending, accompanied by the twitching on her face. Barrett was too familiar with that kind of muscle twitching. It was caused by the pain after the injury.

This immediately made Barrett furious. Although he considered himself not a good person and had done things like destroying a country, Barrett never abused children, not including young soldiers. As long as they took up arms and went to the battlefield, they were all enemies, without any other identity. However, the child in front of him was obviously not. She was just an ordinary child. Who on earth could actually attack such a young child?

Barrett's anger made him lose control of himself a little. The domineering aura unconsciously released from him. The weather around him changed instantly, and dark clouds covered the sky at a speed visible to the naked eye. This sudden change alarmed the scholars in the Tree of All-Knowing. They hurriedly pushed the door out and saw Barrett and Robin not far away.

"Stop! Don't hurt that child!" In Dr. Clover's eyes, Barrett and the child looked like a weirdo who wanted to hurt the little girl. Dr. Clover rushed over without hesitation, hugged the little girl in his arms, and turned his back to Barrett.

Dr. Clover's action also made Barrett sober up instantly. He noticed that the people around him were already breathless with fear under his momentum, especially the little girl, whose eyes even turned white. He quickly retracted his domineering aura, and the dark clouds in the sky dissipated. Barrett looked at Dr. Clover with his back to him, and a trace of appreciation flashed in his eyes. He could feel that Dr. Clover in front of him was an ordinary person, and an ordinary person had the courage to run over to protect the child under his domineering aura, which meant that this person's protective feelings for the child exceeded his fear of Barrett.

This also shows that the injuries on the child were not done by this group of scholars, otherwise the doctor in front of him would not do such a thing. Barrett felt that he still had the ability to judge people.

"Who are you!" A scholar said tremblingly while holding a book and looking at Barrett.

"Sorry, everyone, I'm just a visitor. I just saw the injuries on the child and was a little angry for a while. I'm really sorry." Barrett was not an unreasonable person. After confirming that the scholars in front of him were not the ones who hurt the girl, he slowed down his tone and said.

"What!? Robin is injured again!" Upon hearing Barrett's words, the first reaction of these scholars was not to accept Barrett's apology, but to rush over and start to check the girl, that is, Robin's condition.

"Heisenberg! Heisenberg! Hurry up and bring the medical kit! Little Robin's arm is dislocated!" A scholar shouted to the people behind him.

"Splint! Splint! Don't forget the splint! Her arm needs to be fixed!" Another scholar shouted hurriedly.

"She is dislocated, not fractured! No need to fix it!" The first scholar shouted.

"Dislocation also needs to be fixed! To prevent secondary injury!" The second scholar who spoke responded, and then the two scholars started arguing without paying attention to others.

"Stop! The child is not dislocated, but the muscle is strained due to trauma and can't exert force! No splint! Don't move her, is there any medicine for bruises?" Barrett couldn't stand it anymore. As a young soldier from the battlefield, he knew this situation very well. Although he was not a professional doctor, he still had the ability to save himself and check injuries on the battlefield. He understood that this group of scholars might be very smart and knew a lot, but at least for medical injuries, they were still a little bit behind, or it was knowledge from books, knowing but not applying.

"Can you treat a disease?" The two scholars stopped arguing and turned to look at him at the same time. The other scholars were the same. The one with a strange hairstyle, who should be Dr. Clover in Captain Roger's mouth, also looked over.

"Know a little, don't dawdle, where is the medical kit?" Barrett felt a little headache. Are these people really scholars?

"Here it comes! The medical kit is here!" The scholar named Heisenberg ran out of the Tree of All-Knowing with a white box in his arms. Barrett took it and opened the box. It was okay. At least the types were quite complete. Although they were placed in a mess, at least he could find what he wanted.

Barrett took out two ointments, mixed them together, leaned down, gently lifted Robin's arm, and applied the ointment on Robin's arm as gently as possible.

"Okay, no problem, it should be fine after two days of rest, but remember to apply this ointment to her once a day for three consecutive days, and don't use force on your arm during these three days." Barrett stood up and said to the scholar in front of him.

"Can these two ointments be used together?" A scholar next to him took the ointment and asked curiously.

"I'm really not sure about this. I've never thought about this before." Another scholar said.

"Children can use it, but adults can forget about it. The two are mixed for quick effect and analgesic effect." Barrett helplessly watched these scholars start discussing again without paying attention to others. He felt that he was beginning to have a headache. Why did these people feel like a group of curious babies? Barrett explained helplessly that these were all small tricks he learned on the battlefield. Of course, what he said about adults not being able to use them was not absolute. After all, there was no time to consider which ones on the battlefield. Which one is better to use.

"Thank you very much, sir. I just blamed you wrongly." Dr. Clover handed Robin in his arms to a scholar behind him, stood up and said to Barrett.

"It's okay. I also blamed you wrongly at first. I thought you were abusing this child, but what's the matter with this child?" Barrett waved his hand and said.

"Alas, this child is also a poor person. Let's go into the house and talk." Dr. Clover sighed and made a gesture of invitation to Barrett.

"Okay." Barrett nodded. He came to see the Tree of All-Knowing and to communicate with Dr. Clover. Naturally, he would not refuse the invitation. A group of people came into the house and placed Robin on a small bed. Dr. Clover poured Barrett a cup of coffee. After that, the two sat down and Dr. Clover began to tell Robin's story.
