Rebirth In The Apocalypse: Start By Building The Strongest Base
#68 - Chapter 68 Preparing for the Return Trip
Back at the training grounds.
The combat team that went out on a vehicle retrieval mission this morning had long since returned.
They brought back five heavy trucks and one tanker truck, which should be enough to pack up all the aviation fuel.
They also found some relatively rare supplies here in Yangcheng, which they plan to transport back to the base together.
As for the combat team within the training ground, they completed their tasks even faster. The supplies and fuel were already prepared, and upon seeing the new vehicles return, they began loading them without needing any instructions.
The work proceeded in an orderly manner, which exemplified the Green Source combat team's efficiency at this time.
Time came to a little after four o'clock.
A whooshing rumble sounded in the sky.
Those at the training ground knew that their boss and the others must be returning.
Sure enough.
Before long, two helicopters appeared in the sky.
In addition to the one that went out in the morning, there was actually another one.
Of course, the boss's personal involvement meant a successful outcome.
Everyone was used to it.
After the two helicopters landed, Qin Jin and the others stepped out, and team leaders like Li Bowen went to greet them.
Away from the helicopters, Qin Jin and his group finally felt their ears find some peace. Even though they had been wearing noise-canceling earmuffs on the plane, their ears had still been suffering.
The intensely penetrating noise had been assaulting their eardrums, and only now were their ears finally liberated.
Seeing the approaching team leaders, Qin Jin got an update on their situation.
Everything went smoothly; everyone had completed their missions.
He said to the team leaders, "Get everything ready later. We'll stay one more night tonight, and tomorrow morning we'll head back to the base!"
Everyone responded affirmatively.
No one asked why they weren't continuing to use the helicopters to find more supplies; they simply obeyed orders.
If they were to ask Qin Jin, he would tell them that flying out in helicopters wasn't as easy as they imagined.
Landing without proper preparation was simply too dangerous!
Without a geographical advantage, going down could be equivalent to suicide.
Moreover, the current gains had far exceeded the initial expectations when they set out.
The remaining targets had become less important, and they could be dealt with later.

The night passed uneventfully.
The next morning.
A light rain fell.
The early morning training ground was shrouded in a misty drizzle.
The already low temperature dropped again.
The Green Source Base personnel had risen and prepared themselves, as they would be returning today.
Although they found many planes, Qin Jin, as the leader, didn't plan to fly them back directly. He intended to continue escorting the convoy, as the importance of these supplies was too high, and he couldn't accept any problems occurring along the way.
Of course, he also couldn't fly one of the aircraft to escort the convoy from the sky; that would be no different from courting death.
In the overcast and rainy weather, the team members' bodies were dampened by the drizzle. Fortunately, their outerwear was mostly waterproof, so they didn't feel too cold.
After the team members got into the vehicles, Qin Jin sat in the Saber-toothed Tiger, glanced at the dozen or so vehicles behind him loaded with supplies, and picked up the intercom to notify the main force to set off.
The gates of the training ground opened, and the convoy streamed out in single file, forming a long line of vehicles, slowly driving away from this place.
Whether there would be another opportunity to come here again was unknown to anyone.
They would choose a different route from the one they took to get here, which would avoid some areas with more zombies that they had discovered on the way, which should reduce some of the danger.
Coupled with the rainy weather and slippery roads, the convoy drove into the rain at a slower speed than when they arrived.
————————————
Shenzhen City.
The northern suburbs.
A street near Longmen County.
On a certain road, a minibus was driving through the rain.
Inside the bus, there were about a dozen men and women, scattered in different seats. The bus was also piled with a lot of luggage, making these people look like they were migrating.
This was a group of survivors fleeing from disaster.
"Brother Li, you said we could find a place to live in Guangyuan City. Can we really find a place to survive there?"
One of the disheveled women with messy hair walked to the area near the driver's seat and anxiously asked the driver.
She was probably in her early twenties and dressed relatively neatly.
However, her face seemed to have not been washed for some time, and traces of residual cosmetics were scattered everywhere. In addition, her oily hair was matted, making her look rather scruffy.
This was a common situation for most survivors after the apocalypse. After the water and electricity were cut off, there wasn't even enough water to drink, let alone enough to luxuriously wash their faces.
The man driving, who was called Brother Li, was about thirty-four or five years old, and although he wasn't clean either, he was still presentable.
He was driving the car, and when he heard the woman's question behind him, he turned his head and said:
"A Zhen, haven't we already discussed it? Anyway, we can't stay in Shenzhen anymore, so we might as well go and see if that shelter in Guangyuan City is still there. It would be great if it is. If we really can't find it, there are fewer people there, so there will be fewer zombies, and it should be safer."
Brother Li turned his head back and continued to drive carefully, wary of any zombies that might rush out. But his mouth continued to speak:
"Everyone has discussed it for a long time before setting off, so why are you still asking now? Relax, we'll be fine. We have to trust Sister Huang and Donglin and the others. Everyone wants to continue living."
After hearing Brother Li's words, the woman, A Zhen, nodded.
As if comforted, she returned to her seat and sat down again, clutching her duffel bag tightly, and stopped talking.
However, from the way she occasionally looked out the window with a furtive gaze, it was clear that she wasn't completely at ease.
This group of people was leaving their residence for the first time in a long time since the end of the world to find a new place. They originally lived in the same residential complex and were survivors there.
After the apocalypse, in their residential complex, after the zombies hid during the day, some of the bolder people came out to look for supplies, and slowly they connected all the living people together. After all, the residential complex wasn't big, and people living close to each other could hear each other when they shouted.
As for the reason they left their residence, it was also very simple.
Recently, the zombies around the residential complex had become increasingly "ferocious."
During the day it was fine, but at night, some zombies would always surround the homes of these survivors and knock on the door, making it impossible for them to sleep at night.
Some of them analyzed that the zombies were getting stronger. At first, everyone didn't believe it, until the night before last, when a family of survivors was broken into and eaten by zombies, which shocked them into accepting this fact.
If they didn't leave, sooner or later they would be eaten by the stronger zombies at night.
It just so happened that a survivor said a piece of news at this time, saying that someone in her WeChat Moments had sent a message on the media before the Internet was cut off.
In a certain place in Fenghe County, Guangyuan City, a shelter had already been established.
There were tall walls to protect it, and people could live safely inside!
In order to persuade everyone, the survivor who said the news charged her phone with a power bank and actually found the picture online!
The photo showed a tall wall, estimated to be at least five or six meters high.
There were also many people busy doing something next to it.
Looking at the date the photo was posted, it was actually a few days after the end of the world!
If the people from Green Source Base were here to see the photo, they would immediately recognize it.
That was Green Source Base!
