Rebirth of England
Chapter 1005 Cabinet Reshuffle
On July 15, 2014, Prime Minister Cameron announced a major reshuffle of the coalition government cabinet, including changes in the positions of Foreign Secretary.
This is considered a key step taken by Cameron in preparation for next year's general election.
The current government was formed in 2010. Last year, Cameron made minor adjustments to some cabinet members, but did not involve important positions such as finance, home affairs and diplomacy.
In this reshuffle, Foreign Secretary William Hague will be replaced as Leader of the House of Commons, and former Minister of Business, Skills and Innovation Joe Harriman, who just announced his "coming out" publicly, will take over diplomatic work and become the new Foreign Secretary.
Education Secretary Gove was appointed as the Conservative Party's Chief Whip in the House of Commons, responsible for the Conservative Party's disciplinary work, and also responsible for election publicity and public relations. His job was taken over by the former Treasury Secretary, Ms. Morgan...
In addition to Morgan, 38-year-old Ms. Toulouse became the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs; White became the Attorney General; Crabbe became the Secretary of State for Welsh Affairs.
In this cabinet reshuffle, the candidates for important positions such as the Chancellor of the Exchequer, the Home Secretary, and the Secretary of Health did not change.
After this adjustment, the number of cabinet members increased from 22 to 23, and the number of female cabinet members in the cabinet doubled from 3 to 6.
Cameron made major adjustments to the cabinet mainly for the following two reasons:
First, Britain will hold a general election next year, and the Conservative Party is determined to win the election and get the opportunity to form an independent cabinet.
However, the Conservative Party is currently 3 to 7 percentage points behind the Labour Party in the polls. This cabinet adjustment mainly involves middle-aged male cabinet members, which is considered to pave the way for the formation of a younger and more female cabinet in the next term.
Second, it is to prepare for the adjustment of Britain's relationship with Europe.
Prior to this, Cameron had publicly stated that if he won the general election next year, he might hold a referendum on leaving the European Union in 2017.
Although Barron had warned Cameron that if Britain left the EU, he would be cautious about industrial investment in Britain and might even transfer part of the manufacturing industry to more competitive regions, the reality is that Cameron had to make such a statement in the end in order to win the general election next year due to the increasingly strong Eurosceptic tendency among the domestic people.
However, Cameron also privately assured Barron that even so, there would still be variables in whether to hold a referendum on Brexit, and even if a referendum was held, he would guarantee that Britain would remain in the European Union.
Of course, Barron would not have any trust in Cameron's assurances, after all, the scene in the previous life had already explained everything.
But he also understands that in the current situation where public opinion is so surging, blindly blocking it is probably not the wisest choice, just like everyone has received various advices and admonitions from parents and elders when they were young, but not many people can really avoid the pitfalls of growing up - knowing a lot of truths, but still not living a good life.
Because only when you really suffer a loss can you be impressed, and what others say is always just a breeze in your ears.
Just like Joe Harriman, under the current situation, she needs to make some remarks that tend to be "Eurosceptic" from time to time to maintain her support rate.
And this time, in Cameron's adjusted cabinet, there are people like Defense Secretary Hammond and Energy Secretary Fallon, who have always been firm Euroscepticists, and they all believe that if the EU cannot make changes and adjust its relationship with Britain, Britain must withdraw from the EU.
Putting such a group of people in important positions can not only appease the hardliners within the Conservative Party, but also win the support of right-wing voters in next year's general election and bring back voters lost in this year's European Parliament election.
Yes, in this year's European Parliament elections, the Conservative Party's performance was very disappointing to Cameron. The number of seats they obtained in the European Parliament was even less than that of the opposition Labour Party... It can be said that it was a complete defeat.
This is why Cameron has made so many moves for next year's general election.
Relevant people, parties and organizations have responded to this change in the cabinet.
William Hague will not participate in the parliamentary election next year. Leaving office at this time is considered to make room for others.
In a later interview, he said that this adjustment is to find a balance between experience and personnel renewal. Both the Conservative Party and the government need to be renewed and give some opportunities to those who are extremely talented.
He also denied that the Conservative Party's European policy would change, saying that he, Cameron, Hammond and others have the same position on European issues, and are committed to improving relations with the European Union and then holding a referendum on whether to leave the European Union.
Joe Harriman, who has just taken over the position of Foreign Secretary, said that Hague has made outstanding achievements in returning Britain to the center of the world political stage during his four years as Foreign Secretary, and he will do his best to live up to expectations.
With this cabinet adjustment, Jo Harriman became one of the most core members of the cabinet. Among the six women in this cabinet, Theresa May and Jo Harriman, who are Home Secretary, are the most important, occupying two seats including Prime Minister, Chancellor of the Exchequer, Foreign Secretary and Home Secretary.
Yes, in terms of importance, the ranking of the British cabinet is Prime Minister, Chancellor of the Exchequer, Foreign Secretary and Home Secretary.
That is to say, Joe Harriman's position in the cabinet has now surpassed Theresa May, becoming the third person in the cabinet - this is why Theresa May looked like she didn't like to smile when the cabinet members were announced this time...
A correct version in 16-9-1 book-1 forum!
After all, the foreign minister is responsible for the country's diplomatic relations and international affairs, which is a very important position in the government.
Just like the Secretary of State of the United States, who is mainly responsible for foreign affairs and part of domestic affairs, is the third in name after the president and vice president; but in actual power, he is the second person after the president.
In addition, the Secretary of State ranks fourth in the order of succession to the president, and above him are the vice president, the speaker of the house and the temporary speaker of the senate.
That is to say, the secretary of state will become the president only when the president, vice president, speaker of the house and temporary speaker of the senate of the United States are all dead...
But for many people, if you ask them who the vice president of the United States is, they will probably be confused.
But if we talk about the Secretary of State, many names are very familiar.
For example, Mei Xizong was known to everyone only after he became the Grand Commander. If you didn't mention it specifically, would you know that he was the Deputy Commander of Ao Guanhai before? Or he served as the Deputy Commander for two terms with him.
