Reborn 2005: The Internet Myth
Chapter 15 Register a Patent
The week passed quickly.
Wang Zheng participated in two TV programs this week, both of which were business interview programs, one in California and one in New York.
They are all small local programs, and he is not famous enough to be on famous talk shows on national television networks.
The talk shows here rarely have scripts and are more improvised.
This aspect is not difficult for Wang Zheng. He tries his best to create a positive image and wise vision of himself. To put it bluntly, it is deception.
Being handsome is the last word.
However, the publicity on the Internet is still very powerful. The contest for the most beautiful college student in the United States is about to begin. The prize of tens of millions of dollars has attracted countless female college students.
Meta’s popularity on the Internet is unprecedented.
What Wang Zheng didn't expect was that this event would actually push up the stock prices of digital camera manufacturers such as Canon and Sony.
Digital cameras are selling well.
The topic of beauty selection cannot be lacking in popularity anywhere, let alone the American League.
The Miss Four beauty pageants are highly sought after by countless people every year.
Taking this opportunity, the number of people online and the amount of content in the Meta community has been increasing.
Cheryl is happy and painful. She is happy because there are more and more users, and the value of the company will become higher and higher.
The pain is due to the need to expand the storage service almost every day, and the huge workload caused by content review.
The endless stream of illegal pictures forced her to choose to outsource part of the review.
Money is spent like water.
Moreover, Wang Zheng also took away 10 million and gave it to Ultron through "patent licensing".
Ultron is developing smoothly. Both Jim and Collins graduated from prestigious schools and have certain connections.
A development team of 30 people was quickly assembled and has begun working on an operating system called Ultron.
At this time, the domestic Huoyun R&D Center is also developing the Hongmeng system, but this is not a simple duplication and waste.
What is developed domestically can be used domestically, but cannot be used abroad. Intellectual property protection cannot be passed.
It is impossible for Midland to let an operating system developed by Daxia people go on the market.
The domestically developed Hongmeng operating system provides services in Daxia, and the market there is large enough.
Ultron developed abroad will no longer enter the Daxia market.
The networks of both parties are cut off, and there is no situation where they are fighting against each other.
The modular computer room has begun production, and Jim has formed a sales team of four people, who are running around outside to promote the company's first product.
Because there is no physical object yet, many data centers are still skeptical.
I believe that with the successful construction of Ultron's first data center, this kind of doubt will no longer exist.
Because of the hot weather in California, Jim rented a property in Los Angeles. It was originally a three-story underground parking lot, covering an area of 6,000 square meters, with complete electrical and drainage systems.
The underground temperature is not high, and the area is enough to accommodate 50 sets of modular computer rooms. If it is squeezed a little, it will not be a big problem to put 70 sets.
Because it is a modular computer room, it does not have high requirements for the external installation environment and there is not much repair work.
The computer rooms that are now offline are already being transported there and installed.
Several large server vendors are competing for server and storage orders, including IBM, HP and Dell, as well as EMC.
In terms of equipment selection, Wang Zheng prefers the Blue Factory platform.
In the future, this place will definitely be upgraded to the Altron cloud computing platform, and the blue factory platform will be even more advanced in its support for virtualization technology.
After setting the tone, Jim will naturally communicate with Sheryl about how much servers and storage are needed, and then purchase them back to temporarily reduce the storage pressure on the Meta community.
Taking advantage of this week, Wang Zheng has finished writing all the face recognition modules and sorted out several branch algorithms.
Face recognition algorithms are a large collection.
This set of algorithms includes a series of algorithms such as image processing algorithms, face extraction algorithms, and image comparison algorithms.
Only when these algorithms are combined can face recognition be achieved.
If one of the middle items is missing, or the technology is registered and patented but cannot be authorized, then the face recognition function will be incomplete and cannot be used.
At this time, you either need to find another way or spend money to buy authorization.
This is also the reason why many domestic technologies are lagging behind and are stuck in the middle.
Changing direction means that all the previous efforts have been wasted. If you don't change direction, you can only take a detour without authorization.
So Wang Zheng sent these algorithm codes to Zhou Ruoyun.
She will register patents globally in Wang Zheng's personal name, then license the patent to an offshore company, and then use intellectual property licensing to authorize Meta to use it openly.
The criterion for judging a patent is who submits it first, so even if the patent cannot be issued yet, it doesn't matter, just use it as usual.
Find two people in Meta's development department, and after learning the Cangjie language, it only took one day to create a program based on this algorithm to upload the function to the Meta community.
After all, it is not difficult for these developers to calculate the results since they have the questions, the steps to solve the problems, and the pens provided.
This procedure is very simple. The staff at Meta collect a large number of illegal pictures, and then extract the illegal content from these pictures as a sample library. This work will continue to improve the sample library.
The pictures uploaded by users will first enter this program, compare them with the sample library, and set a threshold. For example, if the similarity reaches more than 80%, they can be filtered directly and tell the user that I don't want this picture.
Those with a similarity of about 60% will be transferred to manual review, while those with a similarity lower than 60% will be released directly.
As the sample library is improved, this program will become more and more accurate. Of course, it will also consume more and more computing resources.
After two days of testing the program, the manual review workload was significantly reduced.
Wang Zheng turned around and sent the program to the country. It would be better to mount it directly on Xiaoyun's book.
Next, there is an urgent need for image compression technology.
Under normal circumstances, photos taken with a digital camera are in RAW format. This is a native image without any compression, and the photo quality is the best.
However, this kind of pictures often weigh tens of MB or even hundreds of MB. If you accidentally take a few more pictures, the SD card will not be able to fit in it.
And if you use this format to make animations or movies, it will cost 1 GB per second. No one can bear this.
Therefore, when taking pictures with a digital camera, the RAW format is directly compressed into the JPG format, which is the picture we see after taking it with a camera, mobile phone and other equipment. Unless manually adjusted, 99% of the pictures are in the JPG format by default.
The JPG format is a lossy compression technology, which means that although it is small in size, the picture quality will be lost.
And speaking of small size, a single photo is about 3MB, which varies depending on the camera's frame size.
The Meta community allows up to 9 photos to be uploaded at a time. The storage of these photos takes up about 30MB of space. If a data disaster recovery backup is made, it will only take up 60MB.
As the number of users increases, and audio and video services will be launched in the future, Meta may need to build hundreds of data centers to meet the demand for image storage.
Another reason is that when uploading images of more than 30 MB to a web page, it takes up a lot of traffic and the web page opens slowly, which will also affect the user experience and the cost of Meta.
That’s how Duo Tu Kills the Cat came about.
The only solution is to compress the JPG again, ensure the quality as much as possible, and improve storage efficiency and transmission efficiency, so as to prevent the pictures that customers see from being blurry.
But how to do it specifically? If you are still unsure, you still need to find the USB flash drive.
