Reborn in Hong Kong: The Tycoon Grows Up
Chapter 800 Blue Light Emitting Diode 1
The Prime Minister's Office was an accident. Bao Zixuan had already planned it before. He was going to go to Nagoya University because there was something he wanted there. It is also a patented technology that will be widely used in the future. It can be said that the victory is inevitable and no mistakes are allowed.
In 1971, Jacques Pengofin and Ed Miller demonstrated the possibility of using zinc-doped gallium nitride to create blue LEDs—although the first LED they subsequently built using gallium nitride was Glowing green. In 1972, Herb Marowska and Willie Wynes of Stanford University, as well as doctoral students in materials science and engineering at the school, developed the first LED that emits blue-violet light. The material of this LED is magnesium-doped gallium nitride.
To this day, magnesium-doped gallium nitride remains the base material for all commercial blue LEDs and laser diodes. But blue diodes made from magnesium-doped gallium nitride emit too little light for practical use.
Moreover, subsequent research on gallium nitride components has also been unable to achieve a breakthrough.
Until the early 1980s, at Nagoya University in Japan, Isamu Akasaki, who was already in his fifties, took his student Hiroshi Amano to restart research on gallium nitride. And successfully produced gallium nitride crystals that were previously considered impossible to produce. They found that by passing an electric current through the crystal, the latter's light emission could be enhanced.
Later, Shuji Nakamura, an employee of Nichia Chemical Industry, noticed the research results of master and apprentice Isamu Akasaki. He followed the research direction of his master and apprentice and finally produced a high-brightness blue LED.
The invention of blue light-emitting diodes has been hailed as "the second lighting revolution after Edison". The invention of blue LED has enabled mankind to assemble LEDs that can emit light of the three primary colors, and to use LEDs to produce bright enough white light. The invention of white LED lights has greatly improved human lighting efficiency.
For such an important invention patent, since it comes to Japan, of course it cannot be let go.
Bao Shoufu also knew the working principle of blue light-emitting diodes, but after all, he was not a professional, and he did not have the energy to study it in depth. All colors of visible light can be synthesized from three colors of red, green, and blue light. Red and green light-emitting diodes have been invented a long time ago, but no one has been able to invent blue light-emitting diodes. After the successful development of blue light-emitting diodes, all visible light can be synthesized by light-emitting diodes. So much so that the white lighting diodes that were later invented were all invented on this basis. This significance is so great; it even won the Nobel Prize in Physics.
Nagoya University, referred to as Nagoya University, is headquartered in Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture, Japan. It is one of the famous research-oriented comprehensive national universities and the highest institution of higher learning in central Japan.
Nagoya University was founded in 1871; it was named Nagoya Imperial University in 1939; it was officially renamed "Nagoya University" in 1947.
The school currently has 10 departments, 15 graduate schools, 3 research institutes, 2 national joint research bases, and 29 on-campus joint education and research facilities. Although it is the youngest old imperial university in Japan, its academic achievements are definitely not inferior to those of its bosses, Tokyo and Kyoto University.
Bao Zixuan did not notify the school, but found Professor Akasaki Isamu through connections. One of his students worked in Heiyun Group, and it was precisely because of this relationship that Bao Zixuan came directly to his door.
Although Nagoya University is Isamu Akasaki's alma mater, he worked for Panasonic Electric for a while and only returned to the school to teach two years ago. Although the treatment given to him by the school is not bad, the support is far from enough. Professor Akasaki Isamu, who was accustomed to working in the enterprise, felt at this time that he was neither good nor bad.
During his tenure at Panasonic, any investment that is beneficial to scientific research and products will receive funding as soon as possible. But Nagoya is a university, and it is also a public university. Every grant is very troublesome and has to go through layers of review. In the early stage of the project, the developer needs personal income subsidies, and funding can only be obtained after seeing hope.
At this time, blue light-emitting diodes were just a token of appreciation and did not receive enough attention. Nagoya University only invested a small amount of funds symbolically, which did not have much effect at all.
The chairman of Heiyun Group is very well-known among major universities in the world and is different from traditional entrepreneurs. This is a genius technical boss, and his academic achievements have been recognized all over the world. Even without the aura of the richest man in Hong Kong and the president of Yulin Institute of Technology, most professors from any university in the world will give him face.
Being able to communicate together is also a kind of growth; this has nothing to do with business, but more of academic mutual recognition.
In a cafe near Nagoya University, Bao Zixuan met Professor Akasaki Isamu. He is not tall, wears a pair of gold glasses, and is dressed in a typical academic style, making him instantly recognizable.
Akasaki Isamu was also looking at Bao Zixuan, even though he had seen photos and video materials from reports. But when I saw him in person, I still felt younger than I imagined.
With this appearance, if he is not an acquaintance or does not know his identity. If you appear near Nagoya University, you will definitely think that he is a student. His age and appearance are at best that of a graduate student. But he is already the richest man in Hong Kong, and there is no one in Japan who is richer than the young man in front of him.
This is starting a business right from the mother's womb. Otherwise, how could the business be run so well? What's more valuable is that he is still a great figure in academics, so how can other people live?
Bao Zixuan stood up and said with a smile: "I take the liberty of coming to visit. Please forgive me, Professor."
Akasaki Isamu is not ignorant of good and evil. After all, he has worked at Panasonic for 10 years. He is also good at handling interpersonal relationships. If he is purely a scholar, it will be difficult for him to achieve a high position in the company. You must know that he served as the director of basic research at the Tokyo Research Institute of Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd., which at least proves that he is still very good at dealing with people.
Akasaki Isamu: "What did Principal Bao say? It's an honor for me to meet you. Not everyone has the opportunity to be invited by your Excellency. Please don't say that in the future."
When I heard the title Principal Bao, I immediately understood what he meant. It turns out that Akasaki Isamu thought he was here to poach someone on behalf of Yulin Institute of Technology, otherwise he wouldn't have asked him out privately.
In fact, it is normal to have this idea. After all, Yulin Institute of Technology has been poaching people from major universities around the world. With the help of Lao Maozi's Western-81 military exercise, the University of Warsaw was almost hollowed out, and more than 2,000 senior intellectuals were taken away throughout Europe.
The same is true in Japan. As long as there are frustrated professors or scholars, Heiyun Group will come to them as soon as possible and use various means to persuade them to teach in Xiangjiang.
However, in the past, lower-level staff came to recruit professors. This was the first time that Bao Zixuan personally took action, at least not heard of it in Japan. It shows that he attaches great importance to himself. The richest man in Xiangjiang does not waste so much time on recruitment.
Bao Zixuan: "Professor, you should know the purpose of my trip, so I'll get straight to the point. You can go to Xiangjiang Yulin Institute of Technology to teach under any conditions. Just ask, as long as it can be done, I will not do it. decline."
Rather than being secretive, it's better to be direct. After all, they all took action personally, and sincerity is enough. Next is the issue of working environment and remuneration. I believe no university can compare with Yulin Institute of Technology in this aspect.
Especially for core projects that are bound to have great commercial value and go down in history, we must do whatever it takes.
Akasaki Isamu didn't expect Bao Zixuan to be so direct. It seemed that the other party had already made up his mind. Otherwise, he wouldn't be allowed to make requests on his own, what if the lion opens his mouth.
Isamu Akasaki said with a smile: "Principal Bao, please don't say that. Aren't you worried that I will offer you an unrealistic condition, or a treatment that will embarrass you?"
Bao Zixuan didn't hesitate and replied directly: "Anyone who knows your professor's character will know it, so I have no worries at all. Another point is value. In my opinion, where is the value of the professor? That's it. The conditions are excessive, but as long as you can do it, it’s worth trying.”
"I am also an engineering technician and know how to coordinate the time of scientific researchers. At Yulin Institute of Technology, scientific researchers never need to participate in any administrative meetings. Of course, they must cooperate with and express their opinions in scientific and technological seminars. The rest is In addition to teaching, most of the time is spent on my own scientific research projects. And regarding scientific research funding, there is absolutely no need to worry, it will be allocated as soon as possible."
It is said that Bao Zixuan provides very good benefits and treatment to scientific researchers. Now it seems that even the academic atmosphere is not a problem. As a scientific researcher, I hate endless administrative meetings. In the view of the science and engineering man, it is a complete waste of time.
