Reborn to Dominate Hollywood
Chapter 9
Ian parked the car outside Michelle's house. Michelle is Adam's mom, and she is said to be an actress.
Ian comes to meet with Adam's mother to discuss the role. It would have been easier if Mason had joined, but he was busy with some other things.
The house looks ordinary, like all the houses on the same street. Two floors with a small garden. It was quiet.
He knocked twice on the door and waited patiently for someone to open it. His mind is arranged on what to say and when to say it. He wants everything to go according to plan, and Adam should be a good fit for the role.
The door was opened by a middle-aged woman with a sincere smile on her face.
"Hey, what's the matter?" She asked.
He was still at the door.
"Well, in fact, I want to meet Adam. I guess Mason must have called you before, right? He responded politely.
"Ah, yes! Ian: Right? Come in. Her facial expression showed how excited she was to meet him.
He followed her in. The house looks old, but there is nothing. It is very well maintained.
"You may be seated, my name is Adachi."
He sat down on a leather sofa with a picture frame hanging in the corner opposite.
The living room is small, but the wooden floors and furnishings are like a "sweet home". A house where people can really relax when they get home from work.
"Adam! Someone's coming for you! She shouted.
The little boy, with jet-black hair and a boyish smile and a very cute look, trotted down and stood behind his mother.
"Hey, Adam. I'm Ian. Ian held out his hand, hoping he would do the same.
As he expected, Adam stepped forward to shake his hand.
"Uncle Mason told me about you. We talked for almost thirty minutes,
" "Oh-" Ian didn't expect him to say so much. In fact, never in previous auditions had a child spoken so amicably in front of their guardian.
That's "basic" training, talk less, show more. At least, that's how all novice trainers teach kids in this industry.
"It's mostly about the script, I mean." Adam said with a smile.
"I see... Do you like it? Ian asked.
"I love it!"
"In the industry, it's actually rare for such a young person to try to direct a movie." Adam's mom tries to start the conversation and break the ice.
Ian nodded, smiled, and didn't say anything.
"And what's the budget? Million? She asked.
"yes, at least that's what we estimated."
"Yes, that's pretty good for an experimental film. A good start
," he said, "did not try to deny the fact that it was experimental. Given the current state of the studio, the last thing Ian would want to do was create something to experiment with.
"yes, let's see."
"Hmm... When Mason says all this, I actually think that with the right amount of input, the script can be very profitable. And the genre is comedy, which is a plus. She
did what she had in mind. Ian didn't deny it, he didn't accept it, "We want it too."
"So, have you read the script?" Ian asked, turning all his attention to the child.
"Yes, sir." Adam replied politely.
"Call me Ian, what do you think?"
He smiled slyly, "Kevin is smart. Very smart, just like me," he replied. His self-confidence impressed.
When they started talking about the script, Ian focused his attention on Adam. Since Mason has explained almost everything, it's easy for him to talk about what the character is like.
Ian makes Adam talk like one of his previous characters. He was stunned by how talented the kid was.
"Wow, that's amazing. Can you make another one? Maybe something interesting? "
The more someone tries, the less interesting they become. Ian knew it. However, Adam succeeds in making Ian laugh.
The script had been given to Adam, as Mason sent a copy as soon as he determined that Adam was suitable for the role.
Knowing this, Ian knew that Adam had a lot of questions about Kevin. However, he slowly accepted it. One at a time, don't try to frustrate Ian.
Most importantly, what Ian knows is... He found the perfect actor for the role. Knowing how excited a child is to play a role like him makes him happier.
"What do you think Kevin would do if he knew his family was going to leave him alone at 'Christmas'?"
"He'll be fine, I mean... He doesn't like his family, does he? Adam asked rhetorically.
Ian chuckled under his breath, knowing that the kid did want to know a lot about the character, but still had a childlike innocence, which made things so much easier.
The audition took very little time, like 20 minutes. All that's left is to have a casual chat.
After almost an hour, they both felt really good when they knew they had exactly achieved the results they wanted.
"I think I'll go first." Ian stood up and patted the child on the head.
Michelle, who was busy playing with her phone in the next corner, heard this and walked over to them.
"Oh, are you done talking?"
"Yes. The real deal is about to start soon, can we get Adam in the studio tomorrow? I want to do some rehearsals and take some pictures," he asked.
"Okay, I'll drop by and I'll drop him off by 9. May I? She asked.
"Yes, perfect. See you tomorrow, goodbye, Adam, Michelle. He
said goodbye to them and went outside, and they waved goodbye after him.
Ian felt as if a weight had been lifted from his shoulders. He finally found his Kevin.
Ian was content.
Since Ian found Kevin, things have been moving fast. One of the very important things about the project is the choice of location.
Ian's best place to shoot the movie wasn't finalized because he just needed a place where it could snow. After some discussion, they chose Canada. Since it snowed there in October, it was easy to finish the film very quickly.
Their plan is to finish the film by December and release it around Christmas. Come to think of it, they've been busy lately.
Post-production takes anywhere from 20 days to a month. So, it's all in a hurry.
One of the things he was grateful for was the crew. They are very supportive and very professional. They are very focused.
It's hard to find such a low-budget professional. The crew was almost like a lucky holiday for him.
Although sometimes, they will treat Ian like a child. Like, they will doubt his abilities, his lack of experience. This frustrated Ian, but he patiently worked it out.
He knew it was because of his age. A young director is always looked down upon, especially one who doesn't have a previous work.
In Hollywood, only top directors start directing in their 20s. Most of them only started in their 30s and 40s.
On the crew, cinematographer Nick is an experienced man who is very knowledgeable about lightning, the camera, and the color palette of the scene.
For the director, the cinematographer is really important, he is responsible for operating the camera and turning the director's imagination into reality.
Many famous directors also have top cinematographers. This is one of the most important aspects of filmmaking.
In this sense, Niko is quite good. He's been making movies for a while and has a lot of experience.
Although sometimes he tries to give some advice for the scenes to help the novice director Ian. But in the end, it turns out that he is not really a newbie.
"Ian, I think in this scene, we should show more background and shoot a close-up. It might be a good idea to put a picture of Kevin's family, don't you think?
"It's a good idea, but we need to keep the background bright. It's a comedy, so the expressions need to be accurate, so the whole scene will fall on the actors' shoulders most of the time. "
yes, let's hope those people do a good job."
And just like that, they had a lot of conversation and generally had a better idea for the film. Home Alone is a movie where Ian just wants to completely imitate the original as he remembers.
That way, you'll have more chances of success.
Although he didn't like it and wanted to add his own flavor, his studio needed to sell well and he wanted a higher chance of success.
He changed actors, but he knew that if he could fit the feel of the original movie in some way, he would make it.
