Rise of Empires: Spain

Chapter 10 The Spanish Revolution

The Austro-Prussian War can be said to be the only major event before the Spanish Revolution.

Carlo's suggestion has achieved good results. The result is that Vittorio Emanuele II pays more attention to Carlo's ideas and allows Carlo to have greater autonomy.

For Carlo, the most important thing at present is to find some qualified subordinates for himself, at least not to do everything by himself.

Although there are servants at the palace, they are servants of his father Vittorio Emanuele II after all, and their loyalty may not be up to standard.

It is not appropriate for Carlo to meet some military high-ranking officials and generals with his identity, but it is no problem to meet some students of the same period in the military academy.

In addition to Giotti, who went to the Turin Military Academy with Carlo, the only students of the same period who are familiar to Carlo are Andrew Rosso, who majors in infantry, and Carmen Esposito, who majors in artillery.

These two guys are about the same age as Carlo, and they are also Carlo's best companions in the entire military academy.

Andrew Rosso is a short, fat guy. Although he looks honest, he has a lot of crooked ideas. Carlo also likes his flexible mind and wild ideas.

Carman Esposito is the opposite. He is tall and thin, and looks malnourished.

If Carlo didn't know that Carman's background would not make him hungry, he would even suspect that this guy is hungry all day.

The two guys, one fat and one thin, plus Jyoti, who is already in his 20s, are the assistants that Carlo can rely on temporarily in his plan.

The origins of the two kings of fat and thin are believable. Both of them are Savoys. After the Savoy region was ceded to France, they moved their families to Turin.

Both Savoy and Turin are the bases of the Kingdom of Sardinia, which is why the two were able to enter the Turin Military Academy.

Carlo's dress and temperament seem to be very different from those of ordinary students in the military academy. Perhaps the two saw some clues, but they kept silent tacitly.

After all, if Carlo wanted them to know, he would tell them. Now that he didn't tell them, it was not the time for them to know.

After the Austro-Prussian War, Carlo's daily schedule became very simple. In addition to occasionally asking Loren about the layout and development of the newspaper, Carlo spent most of his time traveling between the Military Academy and the Royal Palace of Turin, occasionally inviting Andrew, Carman and Jyoti to hold parties. Although his days were not exciting, they were also very enjoyable.

In the continuous study at the Military Academy, Carlo also found that the only possible change from his time travel to the present was that his physical fitness had greatly improved.

The previous body was a sickly person, with frequent major and minor illnesses.

But since Carlo came to this world, not only has his body completely improved, but he has even become a little stronger through the practice of the Military Academy.

Carlo's three meals a day have never been missed. Although Carlo, who is not lacking in nutrition, is only 15 years old, his height has reached 1.7 meters, which is also a standard tall man.

Coupled with his handsome appearance, the noble temperament of the royal family members and his multi-talented and multi-billionaire wealth, Carlo has become the object of admiration of many Italian noble ladies.

That is, the age of this body is still too young, otherwise Carlo would not be able to resist the glances of these noble ladies.

However, Carlo still wants to think carefully about his future wife.

Although the West does not engage in sky-high bride prices, it is undeniable that a good wife can indeed bring huge benefits to oneself.

The country behind his wife is also a helper for Carlo. Carlo hopes to choose a princess from Germany and Russia, two more powerful countries, to marry.

As for the current European hegemon France, it is not within Carlo's consideration. If the Franco-Prussian War develops as it did in history, the French royal family will not exist for a few years.

The study time at the Turin Military Academy is 3 years, and after graduation, you can basically enter the Italian Army as a low-level officer.

Of course, if you enter the Turin Military Academy as an active officer or soldier, you can graduate in just two years, and your rank will be upgraded by at least one level.

Carlo is of course the first way. If you enroll in 1866, you will have to wait until 1869 to graduate.

But this does not conflict with Carlo's plan. After all, the Spanish Revolution broke out in 1868. The monarchy will not be restored in Spain until the demise of the First Spanish Republic.

Carlo still has one year after graduating from the military academy in 1869. When Amadeo becomes the King of Spain in history, Carlo will be 19 years old, which is in line with the range of Spain's choice of king.

Time flies quickly in the busy military academy life.

On May 30, 1867, Carlo attended the wedding of his brother Amadeo and Maria Victoria Polzo Pozzo and presented them with gifts.

The marriages between European royal families in this era were still very chaotic. If Carlo remembered correctly, his brother Amadeo's second marriage was to his sister's daughter, Marie Letitia Bonaparte.

1867 was not a big event, but 1868 was still very lively internationally.

First, US President Andrew Johnson became the first president in the history of the United States to be impeached by Congress, but he was lucky to be impeached by one vote and continued to stay on the presidential throne.

Compared with this lucky US President, Queen Isabel II of Spain was not so lucky.

As the first generation of the British Empire that has withdrawn from the stage of history, the decadent kingdom of Spain has shown an extremely serious polarization.

The aristocracy was extravagant and made a fortune in railway investment and real estate investment. Just a residence built by an Andalusian guard in Madrid was ridiculed by the people as being covered with inlaid diamonds, which can prove the luxurious life of the Spanish aristocracy.

But in contrast, the peasants and working class in Spain lived a hard life. Peasants only had the right to use the land but not the ownership, and the poor economy caused factories in Spain to close down continuously.

The impoverished peasants and workers broke out in demonstrations and uprisings again and again, so they were brutally suppressed by the Spanish government, but the anger of the people continued to accumulate.

Finally, the anger was ignited.

In 1868, exiled soldiers led by Serrano and Juan Bautista Topper, who had been elected to the House of Representatives, led their supporters to launch a larger uprising.

Because it broke out in September, the revolution was also called the September Revolution by the Spanish people.

The corrupt royal government was unable to suppress the explosive revolution. Farmers and workers actively joined the uprising, which swept across most of Spain in a short period of time.

What's more, Queen Isabel II of Spain's control over the army was not so perfect.

The soldiers had no good feelings towards this absurd and extravagant queen. The defection of a large number of government troops accelerated the revolutionary process in Spain, and the Kingdom of Spain perished.
