#20 - Golden Eyes
“Everyone, due to some special circumstances that occurred last night, there have been some temporary changes to this week's schedule.”
“I have already printed out the latest schedule. If there are any further changes, I will come to the class in advance to inform you, just like today.”
The homeroom teacher took out a schedule from the folder she was carrying and inserted it into the display case next to the blackboard, then continued:
“According to the school's requirements for homeroom teachers, in order to protect the students' experiential learning from being affected by some special circumstances, I need to inform you in advance of the precautions for activities on campus.”
“I will only explain the following matters once today, so please remember them carefully:
1. This school is currently in the experiential phase, so the schedule is for reference only. There will not actually be teachers entering the classroom to teach.
If someone claiming to be a teacher comes in, please confirm that they are wearing this kind of badge that represents their teacher status…”
The homeroom teacher pointed to her own badge and continued:
“If the person is wearing a badge, please write down the number on the badge.”
“If the person is not wearing a badge… please ignore any actions they take next, and especially do not do what they ask.”
“Do you understand?”
The homeroom teacher's eyes were scrutinizing as she slowly scanned the empty classroom.
After about a few seconds of silence, a slightly timid voice rang out in the classroom: “Tea…Teacher!”
In one corner of the circular lecture hall, a student weakly raised his hand, and then, under the gaze of the homeroom teacher, asked in a low voice:
“Teacher, what… happened last night?”
Hearing this student's question, Lin Yi narrowed his eyes immediately and also subtly perked up his ears.
Wei Liang, on the other hand, immediately reached out and covered his ears, while poking Lin Yi, and said, “Old Lin, you listen first, and then tell me the parts I can know. Filter out the parts that sound wrong for me.”
Lin Yi rolled his eyes. For Wei Liang's operation, which revealed a top-level understanding of survival, he could only give an international friendly gesture in his heart.
Upon hearing this, the homeroom teacher's eyes stirred slightly, and her tone suddenly became stern: “Please forget everything that happened last night, do not try to understand the past, and do not make too many guesses—for your own safety.”
The student's eyes still held the fear of everything that had happened last night, but based on this terror, he wanted to ask clearly.
Seeing this, the homeroom teacher's calm gaze slowly swept across the entire classroom.
Around 9:00 PM last night, she had checked the number of students in the class, but now there were only fifteen people left.
Her reaction to this situation was extremely calm, as if everything was within expectations.
But among these fifteen people, except for one guy who was covering his ears and seemed to be implementing her survival guidelines, the remaining fourteen people, although most of their faces were pale with lingering fear, all turned their eyes to her.
They all seemed to want an answer.
The homeroom teacher narrowed her eyes and thought briefly before opening her mouth and saying, “If you really want to know, I can only tell you this… Due to the special period, this school is actually conducting a joint anti-terrorism and anti-riot drill with a special unit.”
“The so-called ‘experiential learning’ is actually asking you to act as students, cooperating with the exercise without knowing it.”
“And yesterday was one of the exercises.”
“Due to confidentiality, the school cannot disclose too much information.”
“As for those missing students, they were eliminated during the exercise.”
“If you are eliminated in advance, you will not be able to obtain the experience bonus given by the school.”
Listening to the homeroom teacher's explanation, the look of fear in the eyes of many students faded a little, and when they heard the words 'experience bonus', their eyes finally fluctuated slightly.
People die for wealth.
They were originally here for the 30,000 yuan experience bonus.
After learning this small part of the secret, they calmed down a lot.
The homeroom teacher pressed her advantage.
“If you cannot follow the rules or listen to my warnings, then once you are eliminated, don't blame me for not reminding you.”
“Do you understand now?” she asked, staring at the student.
“U-Understood…”
The homeroom teacher continued: “So, all the warnings I give you are the practices derived from the school's extraction of this part of the secret.”
“If the pass rate is too low, leading to the failure of the joint exercise, the school will also be very embarrassed.”
“So, don't think about why you do this, don't try to understand why the rules are written like this, and don't think about some contradictory things. You just need to honestly follow the rules.”
“Can you understand what I'm saying?”
“Yes (Understand, Understood)… ” Voices of response rang out successively in the circular lecture hall.
The homeroom teacher nodded and continued:
“Then is the second point, 2…”
“2…” She suddenly paused, as if her brain had suddenly blanked out, revealing a hint of doubt.
She pinched her brow, shook her head gently, and then continued:
“2. There are three physical education classes every week on the schedule. Everyone must participate unless there is rainy or foggy weather.”
“Remember those who don't go to physical education class, and stay away from them when you sit in your seats.”
“3. Physical education students and art students will come to class from time to time. Their schedules are different from yours. Don't talk to them too much, but you can listen to some advice from the physical education students.”
“By the way, physical education students have very bad tempers. If they scold you, don't fight them… You definitely can't beat physical education students.”
“As for the art students, people who do art are somewhat abnormal, so if you hear them muttering something, just ignore them.”
“In short, when you are in the classroom, just take care of yourself!”
“4. The last one, listen carefully!”
“Absolutely! Absolutely do not go to the wrong class!”
“Remember that we are Class 2 of Group B. The classroom is located on the first floor of Building B, located between Class 1 of Group B and Class 3 of Group B. Before entering the classroom each time, be sure to look up and look at the doorplate first. Open the door and go in after the doorplate is correct.”
“If the doorplate is wrong…” The homeroom teacher paused for a moment, tsked, and then continued:
“Remember, if the doorplate is wrong, you must have misread it!”
“At this time, please turn around immediately and face away from the doorplate, tell yourself that you are a student of Class 2 of Group B, and then turn around and look at the doorplate again. At this time, if the doorplate is correct, go in. If it is wrong, repeat this step until it is correct.”
As she said this, many students in the class looked puzzled. The homeroom teacher bit her lip, trying her best to keep her tone stern:
"Do you find it incomprehensible again?"
"Remember what I said at the beginning. I'm going to emphasize it one last time now!"
"Don't think about why you're doing this, just do everything you're told!"
"Do you understand?" The homeroom teacher's eyes were piercing, like a grumpy drill sergeant losing patience.
"Understood..." Responses echoed unevenly in the circular lecture hall.
"Do you really understand?!" Seeing the students' weak replies, the homeroom teacher raised her voice and shouted.
This shout startled the students, and they all sat up straight.
"Understood!!" Wei Liang was startled and quickly shouted loudly.
This shout actually had a domineering aura of leadership.
"Understood!" The other students quickly followed suit with the same domineering aura.
"If you understand, then come and sign in!" The homeroom teacher slammed the folder on the podium and pulled out a list.
"I'll call out your names, and you'll come up to me to verify your name and student ID! Song Rentou..."
The homeroom teacher began to call names.
Wei Liang shrank his neck, leaned close to Lin Yi, and whispered, "Hey, Lao Lin, understand what?"
Lin Yi gave him a speechless and blank look.
"If you don't know anything, why were you shouting so loudly?"
So he said, "This is a long story..."
"Hey, then make a long story short!" Wei Liang said bluntly.
"..." Lin Yi's tone faltered for a moment, "Let's sign in first, and I'll explain it to you after I organize the rules."
Wei Liang gave a thumbs up: "You're the best at this!"
The homeroom teacher continued to call names:
"Wei Liang..."
"Bai Fangshuo..."
"Lin Yi..."
When Lin Yi heard his name, he couldn't help but squint his eyes subconsciously before slowly leaving his seat.
Seeing Lin Yi looking thoughtful, Wei Liang couldn't help but ask with concern, "Lao Lin, what's wrong? Are you worried about something?"
"It's nothing." Lin Yi shook his head slightly.
When the homeroom teacher entered the classroom, Lin Yi felt that something was not quite right with her, but what she did next was not suspicious at all.
Lin Yi had been observing her from that moment until now, but he hadn't found any problems.
Finally, after Wei Liang finished signing in, it was Lin Yi's turn.
Lin Yi first casually observed the homeroom teacher's name tag again.
Then he suddenly realized that the homeroom teacher had called the name several times, but the student named Bai Fangshuo had not appeared.
"That Bai Fangshuo... is one of the missing students?"
"Lin Yi, state your student ID." The homeroom teacher's voice sounded in his ear.
"Uh... X0230506098."
The homeroom teacher nodded and put a checkmark after his name.
Lin Yi glanced at it and noticed that there was also a checkmark after Wei Liang's name, while Bai Fangshuo's name... had a line drawn under it.
The homeroom teacher's list had checkmarks and crosses, and then underlines.
"What do these signature marks mean?" He was cautious.
After calling Lin Yi's name, the homeroom teacher called a few more people before putting away the list and leaving the classroom.
As she turned to leave the classroom, Lin Yi noticed that her steps didn't seem very steady.
It wasn't the unsteady feeling of wearing high heels, but rather the unsteady feeling of a sprained ankle or a strained muscle.
Lin Yi pondered for a moment, and then, just as she was about to walk out of the classroom, he suddenly called out to her from behind:
"Teacher."
The homeroom teacher seemed to be lost in thought. Lin Yi's call woke her up like a small stone.
Her body tensed up subconsciously, and then she suddenly turned her head.
"I've made myself very clear. What else do you want?!" She asked sternly.
...
The morning light streamed into the classroom through the doorway. The homeroom teacher turned her head back in the light, leaving only a backlit figure.
However, it was this one look back that allowed Lin Yi to make eye contact with her.
They were a pair of golden eyes, like the eyes of an eagle in a manga, or like they had been cast in gold, with a hint of妖异 (supernatural strangeness) in their brilliance.
The morning light seemed to dim a lot. Lin Yi's vision was filled with only this pair of golden eyes!
His eyes immediately felt a strong stinging sensation. He subconsciously wanted to turn his head and close his eyes, but he forced himself to not show any strange behavior, gritted his teeth, and insisted on asking, "Teacher... I want to ask, are there any novels on the bookshelf?"
"Novels?" The homeroom teacher's stern expression slowly melted away, and a look of thought appeared in her eyes. She obviously didn't expect Lin Yi to ask such a question.
"I'm really not sure about novels... Aren't there any on so many bookshelves?"
Lin Yi noticed that the reddish-gold color in the homeroom teacher's eyes was slowly disappearing, eventually turning into normal black eyes.
He quickly said, "Uh... maybe I didn't notice, I'll look again."
The homeroom teacher nodded slightly and said, "Novels are indeed a good choice. I will give feedback to the school and try to prepare some novels."
After saying that, the homeroom teacher left the classroom, closing the door behind her.
As the classroom door closed, Lin Yi staggered back a few steps and then fell heavily onto the chairs in the first row, slowly sitting down while supporting himself on the chairs.
"Damn, Lao Lin, what's wrong with you?" Wei Liang was startled and quickly helped Lin Yi up. "You're already weak after just staying up one night?"
Lin Yi didn't pay much attention to Wei Liang's words. After opening his eyes, he focused his attention on the announcement board next to the blackboard.
So, with Wei Liang's support, he got up and walked towards the announcement board.
He wanted to see the class schedule.
