Sherlock Holmes at Hogwarts

#96 - Ravenclaw girls dormitory

"Miss Granger, has he always been like this?"

Penelope couldn't help but ask.

"Once he gets absorbed in his own world, he's like this."

Having seen Sherlock in action before, Hermione's reaction was much more normal than the other three.

Actually, she had originally tried to look for clues like Sherlock, but she was rudely stopped by him just after moving her feet.

Under these circumstances, she could only stand in place with the other three Ravenclaw girls, watching Sherlock busily.

But even standing still, she had a clear view of the entire dormitory.

This girls' dormitory is located at the top of the west tower of the castle, with flowing star maps embedded in the arched dome, and bronze and dark blue ornaments hanging from the dome, consistent with the common room's style.

The dormitory layout is similar to the Gryffindor dormitories, with four-poster beds and hanging flannel curtains.

However, the color is not crimson but light blue, and the starlight shines through the magic glass windows onto the four-poster beds. The bedposts are carved with raven and book patterns, and the copper wind chimes hanging from the head of the bed ring softly in the wind, making ethereal tinkling sounds.

Noticing Hermione listening intently, Penelope explained:

"This is a magical item where the words of the Ravenclaw founder are translated into musical notes."

In the center of the room is a round walnut table, the surface covered with graffiti and magic formulas from past students, and the edges piled with several self-turning magic books and a steaming teapot of honey tea.

Cho Chang whispered to Hermione that her bed was the second one by the window.

Hermione glanced at it and found that the bed was very tidy.

The light blue sheets had not a single wrinkle, and although the quilt was not folded into a tofu-like shape, it was neat and tidy.

There was also a small magic plant pot on her bedside table, with glistening dewdrops condensed on the leaves, emitting a fresh scent.

This was all Hermione observed.

She tried to analyze it like Sherlock.

She only deduced that Cho Chang was a clean, hygienic, and cheerful witch.

And then nothing.

She sighed secretly.

Sure enough, although Sherlock always said "This is common sense," "It's obvious," "It's easy to deduce," those were only for himself.

She couldn't do it!

Sherlock was still carefully checking every item in the room, not even letting go of the walnut table and copper wind chimes.

When it came to the beds in the dormitory, he also took out a magic magnifying glass to observe them carefully without any scruples.

This action made Cho Chang and her two roommates blush.

Strangely, Sherlock did not ask them about the owners of the beds.

"Mr. Holmes, do we need to go out—Ah—!"

Marietta Edgecombe didn't finish what she wanted to ask, and was interrupted by her own scream.

Mrs. Norris didn't know when she had suddenly crawled under her feet.

"W-Where did it come from!"

"Isn't this Mrs. Norris? Filch's cat!"

In fact, Mrs. Norris entered the dormitory even before Sherlock and the other three.

Just as Penelope was introducing the situation to Cho Chang's two roommates, Sherlock had already used the three witches who came with him to block the line of sight and put it in the room.

Doing this was easy for him.

Mrs. Norris did not disappoint Sherlock's expectations.

It wasn't discovered until this moment.

Sherlock's gaze stayed on Mrs. Norris for a few seconds before he withdrew it.

Next, he opened Cho Chang's bedside table, and after carefully checking it, he turned his attention to the other three's bedside tables.

Marietta Edgecombe and Alicia Keyes' expressions immediately changed.

But just then, Sherlock withdrew his gaze.

"Alright, the on-site investigation is over. Ladies, don't mind if I ask you a few questions?"

Sherlock said, walking to Mrs. Norris, bending down and picking it up.

Cho Chang's two roommates both looked at Penelope, and after the latter nodded, they began to accept Sherlock's questioning.

The two's answers were similar to Cho Chang's.

They both admitted to seeing Cho Chang use eyeshadow, and that they and Lucy, who had returned home, had both tried it.

The time they discovered the eyeshadow was missing was also the same as Cho Chang's, after returning to the dormitory from the last Potions class of Easter.

They hadn't noticed anything unusual recently.

When Sherlock asked Alicia Keyes why she suddenly wanted to check the eyeshadow after returning to the dormitory after Potions class, her eyes suddenly became sharp:

"Mr. Holmes, are you suspecting me?

If I really did this, how could I deliberately bring it up at that time?

Wouldn't that make myself more noticeable?"

"Mr. Holmes, Ravenclaw students would never steal, especially the people in this dormitory!"

Marietta Edgecombe said with righteous indignation.

"Alicia, Marietta, you don't need to—"

Sherlock waved his hand, stopping Penelope from speaking.

"Ladies, I must say, you are a little sensitive."

The two heard Sherlock say this, and both "hmph"ed.

"In my opinion, your behavior may be using reverse psychology, doing the opposite, deliberately doing something unusual to get rid of suspicion."

Sherlock's words instantly stunned the girls present.

You are really brave!

In their opinion, this was undoubtedly pointing at their noses and saying "You are the criminal!"

Alicia Keyes' chest heaved up and down, pointing at Sherlock and saying, "Holmes, are you—are you insulting me?"

"You are not only insulting us, but also insulting Ravenclaw!"

Marietta Edgecombe said coldly, then turned to Penelope, "Prefect, we don't need this person's help!"

"You've got one thing wrong."

Facing the two girls' accusations, Sherlock said calmly:

"The client for this incident is not you, not even Miss Chang, but Prefect Penelope standing over there!"

"Holmes, you——"

Sherlock stopped paying attention to the two, but turned to Hermione and waved, "Dear Hermione, can you do me a favor?"

Hermione, confused, came to Sherlock's side, and the latter whispered a few words to her.

Hermione immediately showed a surprised look.

But after a moment ofć„Ł, she nodded and ran out quickly.

Penelope couldn't help but ask:

"Mr. Holmes, what are you doing—"

"Oh, don't worry about her, I'm just having her do me a little favor."

Sherlock stroked the cat with his skilled movements, and suddenly said:

"Ladies, if there are no further introductions, I would like to ask you to move to the common room."

"No need to check anymore?"

Penelope couldn't help but ask.

The three girls in the dormitory showed surprised looks at the same time.

Sherlock took in the expressions of several people, and then shook his head with a smile:

"This case happened too long ago, and many key clues have disappeared.

To give an example, data can often be recovered from a formatted hard drive.

But if new data is constantly written after erasing, it becomes difficult.

Your dormitory happens to meet this condition—the scene was not protected, and the entire dormitory, including Miss Chang's cabinet, has been constantly used, and many clues have already been covered up by new traces of use.—"

Speaking of this, Sherlock suddenly changed the subject, "Fortunately, I still found some useful information, which I hope will be helpful to you."

The four girls looked at each other, and finally all turned their attention to Penelope.

Sherlock's mouth raised slightly as he watched this scene.

Ten minutes later, Sherlock and the four girls arrived at the Ravenclaw common room.

Sherlock sat in the middle, Mrs. Norris lying comfortably on his lap, Duang~Duang~Duang non-stop.

The four girls sat opposite Sherlock, faintly surrounding him.

Those who didn't know the situation would probably think they were interrogating a criminal. Sherlock naturally turned a blind eye to all of this, and while stroking the cat, he said calmly, welcoming their curious and scrutinizing gazes:

"Investigation is indeed a physical activity, whether in the Muggle world or the magical world.

But I still want to thank Prefect Penelope for providing me with such an opportunity, so that my Easter holiday doesn't seem so boring."

As soon as Sherlock said this, the four girls' faces changed.

After all, they are all Ravenclaws, and they can understand this level of language.

Penelope was the most impatient and immediately asked:

"Holmes, do you mean—you have completed the task?"

"That depends on what your definition of 'task' is, whether it is to find Miss Chang's lost eyeshadow, or to catch the thief who took the eyeshadow, or—both."

When saying this, Sherlock's gaze stayed on someone's face for a moment.

As soon as he said this, the four people's faces changed again.

The temperature in the Ravenclaw common room, which was already dominated by cool colors, seemed to drop one or two degrees Celsius.

After a brief silence, Penelope still took the lead in breaking the deadlock, her face not looking good:

"So, it has been determined that it was done by someone?"

Hearing this, Sherlock couldn't help but laugh.

"I thought this point was already beyond any doubt! It can't be that Miss Chang really forgot it somewhere, right?"

"Very good," Penelope took a deep breath, "Please tell us everything, Mr. Holmes!"

"Wait a minute!"

"You were just using the example of hard drive formatting to explain that you didn't find any clues, how can you be so confident now?"

At this moment, Alicia Keyes suddenly interjected, looking at Sherlock with suspicion: "Are you deliberately mystifying things?"
