Spoiling History: Starting from the Three Kingdoms
Chapter 640: There is envy but not much
"How is this... different from Cao Cao?"

In Luoyang City, Zhang Fei, who couldn't sit still, stood up and walked back and forth twice, but still couldn't get rid of the depression in his heart, so he simply asked repeatedly:
"When you raise an army in chaos, you should aim to pacify the people!"
"With such tolerance, it's no wonder that you lose the hearts of the people in Yizhou, and there are righteous soldiers!"
Zhang Fei had no reason to get angry with his elder brother and military advisor, so he still faced the light curtain, and the light curtain would not give him an answer.
Liu Bei patted his thigh silently, thinking of the fertile fields of Yizhou Tianfu. Although its people were thousands of miles away from the capital, they still died when they heard about the national disaster. How many people handed their sons and daughters to him, hoping that the world could be as stable as Shu as soon as possible.
Later generations also said that three million Sichuan troops fought against the invaders and saved the country, and hundreds of thousands of them were buried in foreign lands, which shows the integrity of the people here.
But it was precisely because he had walked the Jinniu Road that Liu Bei understood the dangers of Yizhou.
If there is chaos in the Central Plains, there will be people with clear ambitions who will cede Yizhou to seek independence; on the contrary, if the Central Plains is peaceful, those who disturb Yizhou will probably need to be pacified in the end.
And how to solve the problem of Yizhou... Liu Bei looked at Kong Ming.
Kong Ming blinked, and then guessed:
"My lord, do you want to follow the example of future generations and use that cement to build a smooth road from Yizhou to Guanzhong?"
"Kong Ming knows me."
Kong Ming shook his feather fan. It was not surprising that his lord had this idea, because after the formula of cement made from iron slag was finalized, the first places to use it were Jinniu, Baoxiang, and Qishan.
The road surface is still ordinary rammed earth, but wood will be used as the frame and cement will be filled in dangerous and vulnerable places to complete the road. In this way, the repaired Shu Road can still be used in heavy rain, and the two places will not be completely cut off. However, it is still a bit difficult to ride a horse without hindrance. It is reasonable for the lord to have this idea.
But...
"Such a... spectacle is difficult to do at the moment."
After using a word often used in later generations, Kong Ming sighed and said:
"The lord's idea is necessary to make Shu a great governance, and the manpower and material resources consumed are far beyond what can be imagined at this time."
In the final analysis, if it is true that Zhuya is the only place around China with volcanic ash as later generations say, then slag can only be used to make cement in the Central Plains. At present, there is not much manpower, and there is not much iron ore. How can there be enough iron slag?
Therefore, in order to realize the lord's idea, either look for large iron mines to mine, set up iron smelting offices across the country, smelt iron ore for engineering and agricultural tools, and mix slag with cement.
Or they could build a fleet to visit Zhuya to check whether the volcanic ash is easy to use.
But the premise of both is obvious, and both require the world to be pacified.
Liu Bei also obviously understood the meaning, so he nodded, and his eyes became firm again.
On the other side, Lu Su's face was full of interest:
"Yide didn't question Zhao Da and Zhao Er?"
"Hey..." Zhang Fei shook his head and sat down again:
"What else can I say? Zhao Da's reputation of "forgiveness" will be passed down for a thousand years. People in the past two thousand years will know that he will massacre the city and protect cannibalistic relatives. It may be passed down for thousands of years in the future, so that future generations can learn from it."
"If I scold him a few words, he will feel happy again. What should I do?"
I only heard Zhang Yide speak clearly and leisurely:
"Instead of scolding him a few words, it is better to return to Zhuo County and recruit the Han Chinese men surnamed Zhao to join the army."
"Let me lead them to imitate the champion marquis to drink the vast sea of horses, which is the best of both worlds."
[The first stage of the Song-Mongol War from entering Luoyang in Duanping to the death of Cao Youwen.
Then to Meng Gong's three-line defense against the Mongols, and Yu Jie's governance of Shu Mountain City.
One of the figures that cannot be avoided is Song Lizong.
Because when it comes to famous generals of the Southern Song Dynasty, people often compare Meng Gong with Yue Fei.
Yue Wumu was suspected and was murdered by the monarch and ministers of the Southern Song Dynasty at that time; Meng Gong was trusted by Song Lizong and took charge of defense for nearly 15 years. The comparison between the two is inevitable.
However, there are also claims in the history of the Song Dynasty that Meng Gong was not just thinking about defense. In 1246, Fan Yongji, a Mongolian official in Henan, hoped to return to the Song Dynasty and was willing to help the Southern Song Dynasty recover Henan. He took the initiative to hand over his son as a hostage to show his sincerity.
Meng Gong was overjoyed, but the Southern Song Dynasty was still dreaming that Mongolia would not go south. It did not realize that Mongolia’s temporary cessation of war was only a temporary end to the first stage of the war, so Lizong finally rejected Fan Yongji’s request to return to the Song Dynasty.
Meng Gong was so angry that he vomited blood and lamented that "I have been cleaning up the people of the Central Plains for 30 years, but now my ambition cannot be fulfilled." He died of illness in less than half a year.
Fan Yongji, who offered his son as a hostage, was rejected by the Southern Song Dynasty and soon got into trouble and was executed by Mongolia.
From this point of view, even if Yue Wumu knew Meng Gong, he probably wouldn't be too envious.
In addition, Lizong's temple name is more common.
Most of the temple names of the emperors of the two Song dynasties are quite special. Except for Taizu, Taizong, Gaozong, and Xiaozong, the others are unprecedented in the previous dynasties, such as Zhenzong, Renzong, Shenzong, Yingzong, Zhezong, Qinzong, etc.
At first glance, it seems a bit messy, but because the temple name is different from the posthumous name, it is not necessary to follow the posthumous name law, and the Song Dynasty is not short of scholars, so basically there are sources, and two examples are picked here.
For example, if Song Shenzong follows the posthumous name law, it is "the people cannot name it as a god", but Confucius said in the Analects, "Great is Yao's king! So majestic, only the sky is great, only Yao follows it; so vast, the people cannot name it", and we are not familiar with it in modern times, but for the ancients, Shenzong is a special name for Emperor Yao, so it is definitely a compliment.
Another example is Ming Rangzong, whose temple name was originally Shenzong. If this temple name really contained derogatory meanings, it would not have been stripped.
Others, Zhezong's temple name comes from "Three Generations of Philosophical Kings", and Yingzong's is "The Great Way, and the Three Generations of Heroes".
Similar to these two is Ming Huaizong, whose original temple name Sizong also comes from "Qinming Wensi" in "Shangshu", one of the four virtues.
Therefore, there is a saying that Neo-Confucianism grew during the reign of Lizong, and Lizong himself also liked Neo-Confucianism, so he was given the name Lizong by the literati, which is definitely a bit out of context.
The records of the Southern Song Dynasty stated that when discussing the temple name, there were five alternatives: Jing, Chun, Cheng, Yun, and Li. The final one agreed upon was Song Lizong, but someone stood up and said that Jin Aizong's private temple had the name Lizong, and it was too unlucky to use the same name, so it was changed to the homophonic Lizong.
As for Lizong's love of Neo-Confucianism, this is actually the least important.
Moreover, Neo-Confucianism during the reign of Emperor Lizong of Song had already suffered a blow, and it can only be said that it was still recovering, but it would be a fantasy to say that it could influence the emperor's temple name.
The most powerful period of Neo-Confucianism in the Southern Song Dynasty was in the later years of Zhu Xi. At that time, Zhu Xi, who was a top scholar, connected with the retired emperor Song Xiaozong, and successfully made the School of Mind, Yongjia School, Yongkang School and other schools of thought that sought common ground while reserving differences stand under the banner of Neo-Confucianism, ready to eliminate malpractices and eradicate ills.
But we all know what happened later. The queen of Emperor Guangzong of Song made trouble, Emperor Guangzong of Song went crazy, and Emperor Xiaozong of Song died of depression due to lack of care.
The reform that could have become a turning point in the Southern Song Dynasty was stillborn. 】
