#169 - Surgery, my meditation goal
Xiguan District, Ren'an Hospital.
A little after eight in the morning, the rows of long chairs outside the operating room were already occupied by several people.
Ding.
The elevator doors opened, and Fang Cheng strode out.
Carrying breakfast and hot drinks bought from downstairs, he quickly walked towards the waiting area.
Seeing Fang Cheng appear, the people waiting outside the operating room stood up one after another and began to speak.
"Ah Cheng, you don't have to be so polite, we're all family."
"Come sit down, come sit down, don't tire yourself out..."
Fang Cheng nodded to everyone, simply saying that he was fine.
Li Biyun was also in the crowd, quickly taking the breakfast and hot drinks from her son's hand, and helping to distribute them to the others.
They were all relatives who had come from the countryside to visit Grandpa, older elders, so basic etiquette had to be observed.
Perhaps because they hadn't seen each other for a long time, the relatives were all quite interested in Fang Cheng's current situation, and they took turns talking to him.
Some asked about his work, while others asked if Fang Cheng had a girlfriend and wanted to help introduce him to someone.
Their casual chatting diluted the slightly oppressive atmosphere a little.
In this way, everyone waited outside the operating room for about three hours.
Until after 12 noon.
As the green light came on, the doors slowly opened.
Several doctors and nurses in green surgical gowns took off their masks and walked out, looking exhausted.
Fang Cheng and Li Biyun stood up together, looking anxiously at the doctor.
The relatives who had been talking also gathered around.
"Bed 29, family members here?"
A slightly older male doctor glanced at the crowd.
"We are!"
Li Biyun anxiously stepped forward and asked, "How is my dad?"
"The situation is like this, the surgery was successfully completed."
"The lesions have been basically removed, but he is not completely out of danger yet. We need to guard against post-operative bleeding and infection risks. The patient will be transferred to the intensive care unit for a period of observation and treatment…"
The male doctor conscientiously introduced the patient's condition in detail.
Fang Cheng breathed a sigh of relief and held his mother's trembling hand.
Judging from the doctor's tone, there were no complications during the surgery, so it should be considered very successful, although the person in charge of the surgery would generally be conservative.
Hearing this news, everyone was slightly relieved.
Now it depended on the specific recovery after the surgery.
According to the doctor's pre-operative discussions with the family, as long as the surgery was successful and the recovery was smooth, followed by regular adjuvant chemotherapy, the patient's five-year survival rate could reach over 90%, and there was a good chance of living for more than 10 years.
Speaking of which, this world's tech tree seemed to be skewed.
Other industries were in a relatively backward state, but the level of medical care was much higher than in his previous life, especially in the treatment of cancer, where they had made great achievements.
The relatives who came to visit left one after another.
After sending the last aunt off in a car, Fang Cheng returned to the hospital and stayed with his mother outside the intensive care unit.
Through the thick glass window of the ward, they could see Grandpa lying on the bed.
He was wearing an oxygen tube and had woken up once before, but had fallen asleep again.
Although the vital signs on the monitor were relatively low, they were still within the normal range.
Fang Cheng and his mother therefore had the leisure to talk about the recent situation of his uncle, Li Dingjian.
Speaking of which, since he decided to start a business, he had been coming to the hospital less and less often, appearing very busy.
Recently, he had been even more elusive, not showing up for more than half a month, and his phone was also turned off.
The relatives who didn't know the situation thought he had relapsed and began to blame him.
Hearing her son mention this, Li Biyun told him with a slightly troubled expression:
"Actually, your uncle was originally going to pay for this surgery himself. On the day you took the exam, he transferred 200,000 yuan to my account."
Fang Cheng was a little surprised when he heard this:
"Did his business really succeed?"
"Who knows."
Li Biyun frowned slightly and shook her head:
"I've been keeping this money and haven't dared to use it. The way he is now, it doesn't look like he's doing legitimate business."
"I'm worried he might be doing something illegal. If it's found out, returning it proactively might help him get lenient treatment."
Hearing his mother say this, Fang Cheng couldn't comment for a moment.
From an emotional point of view, he still hoped that his uncle could hold his head high and truly make a career for himself.
From a rational point of view, he had to agree with his mother's suspicions.
After all, his uncle had a criminal record.
After comforting his mother, and learning that today was her day off, Fang Cheng persuaded her to go home and rest, saying that he was enough to take care of things here.
These past few months, his mother had been too tired, having to work and take care of Grandpa.
Fortunately, the hard times would soon be over.
Fang Cheng thought to himself.
He currently had more than 400,000 yuan in cash, and Ma Donghe still had two valuable items that hadn't been sold.
If he added the several sunken ship antiques he brought back from Yong'an Island.
Even if he couldn't be considered a millionaire, he could at least be considered to have some assets.
Once Grandpa was transferred to a regular ward, he would hire two caregivers to take care of him in shifts 24 hours a day.
As for his mother, he could find a reason to explain where the money came from and let her quit her job at the hospital and enjoy her retirement at home.
Li Biyun couldn't resist her son's persuasion. Seeing that the hospital didn't really need too many people staying, she finally agreed and got up to go home.
It quickly grew dark, and the inside of the hospital was a little quieter than during the day.
Fang Cheng came to the family waiting area near the intensive care unit.
There were restrooms, water dispensers, air conditioning, and televisions here, with very humane facilities.
Many patients' family members in situations similar to Fang Cheng's were staying here.
Some were watching the television on the wall, some were eating steaming instant noodles.
Others were covered in blankets, sleeping on the chairs, snoring from time to time, obviously very tired.
In principle, family members of patients were not allowed to visit the intensive care unit.
But in order not to miss the latest news, and to prevent any sudden situations, many family members still chose to stay outside day and night.
With so many people eating and living together, and the garbage on the floor not cleaned up, the environment was somewhat dirty and chaotic.
Fang Cheng found a spot, but frowned after sitting for a while.
There was no other reason than that the smell in the room was too pungent.
After the sense of smell was magnified dozens of times, it was as if he was suffering a biochemical attack.
Fang Cheng even vaguely found a feeling of needing to endure deliberately, honing his will.
So he simply sat cross-legged on the chair and began to meditate.
The other family members around him glanced at him at most, then stopped paying attention.
There were all kinds of strange people these days.
Wasn't there a guy next to him eating Kang Shuai Fu sauerkraut instant noodles while picking at his sweaty feet?
In such a diverse and flavorful environment, Fang Cheng gradually closed his five senses, trying to reach a state of tranquility.
Then, on this basis, he performed a deeper level of meditation, trying to find the feeling of entering samadhi again.
In the extremely quiet environment of the abyss, one only needs to overcome the inner fear of nothingness to quickly reach a state of tranquility, and may even vaguely touch the edge of "entering samadhi."
Being in a noisy, bustling, and colorful metropolis, it is difficult to find such an excellent cultivation environment.
In the process of meditation, entering samadhi is many times more difficult than entering tranquility.
For those who lack talent and cannot find a goal for meditation, it is an insurmountable chasm.
Because entering tranquility only requires focusing the mind and maintaining stillness, concentrating on the present experience.
Entering samadhi, however, requires transcending the present, entering the depths of the subconscious, and connecting with the inner self and the external universe.
After reaching this state, not only is the mind extremely calm, but all physical senses also reach their limit, and everything that happens around is clearly understood, with a clear feeling that transcends instinct.
In the state of harmony between man and nature, Fang Cheng comprehended the confrontation between the original primal sound and the high-dimensional consciousness, and finally truly grasped this feeling.
That is, to visualize the flame-like spiritual fire in one's mind, thereby anchoring one's self-consciousness.
In other words, it can also be said that one is using oneself as the meditation target.
Fang Cheng didn't know if this really counted as entering samadhi.
At least according to the meditation methods taught by the Truth Society, the feeling and experience seem to be quite consistent.
The only thing that Fang Cheng was not satisfied with was that increasing meditation experience was still very difficult.
Approximately two or three hours of meditation practice only increased 1 point of experience.
At this moment, Fang Cheng was in the special environment of the hospital.
His eyes were half-closed, his ears half-listening, slowly adjusting his mood, gradually returning to tranquility.
Then.
As the mind calmed down, a faint glimmer of light dimly lit up in the darkness.
At the same time, a faint red light seeped out from between Fang Cheng's eyebrows.
A wonderful feeling that can only be understood and not expressed quietly surged into his heart.
It seemed that this little light shone through his whole body, blooming with infinite light.
He himself... seemed to have transformed into a wisp of lamp flame burning with firewood.
In this wonderful feeling, he naturally crossed a certain chasm and entered the dark and boundless ocean of the subconscious.
When consciousness entered the deep meditative state of obscurity.
The body's five senses also reached their peak state at the same time.
For the first time in reality, and not in meditation, Fang Cheng clearly experienced the wonderful feeling of all the pores in his body breathing.
Huff...
Sip...
Huff...
Sip...
It was like a gentle breeze surrounding him, clouds surging, and the whole person was light and飘飘, wanting to ride the wind and clouds and return.
Every breath was natural, reaching a perfect state of balance.
If viewed from the perspective of an outsider at this time, it would be impossible to detect Fang Cheng's existence.
He seemed to have become a chair, a teacup, or a roll of toilet paper in this room, completely integrated into the environment, without a trace.
Vaguely, Fang Cheng's consciousness gradually stretched out to the surrounding space.
Finally, a 360-degree all-round perspective was revealed, and everything around was reflected in his mind, without the need to observe with his own eyes, everything was clearly visible.
Countless noisy and fragmented sounds from inside and outside the room came one after another.
The sound of the television broadcasting the news.
The sound of breathing, heartbeats, and coughing of the surrounding people.
The crackling sound of the warm air blowing through the grille of the ceiling air conditioner.
The slight footsteps of someone passing by in the corridor.
Whether high or low, fast or slow, both ears responded easily, without interfering with the peaceful mood.
Even the foot odor, sweat odor, and instant noodle smell filling the nose, even if it was dozens of times stronger, could not affect the normal olfactory judgment, making it acceptable.
"This is entering samadhi, incomparably clear, incomparably free..."
Fang Cheng couldn't help but sigh in his heart.
From closing the five senses, transcending the five senses, and then returning to the five senses, accepting the five senses, everything was like a natural process.
When in tranquility, Fang Cheng never dared to fantasize, and the slightest thought would cause him to exit the meditative state.
But after entering samadhi, he could freely use his thoughts to imagine anything, anyone.
Because his heart was completely settled!
Just as Fang Cheng was carefully experiencing the feeling of entering samadhi,
Suddenly, a strange sound floated into his ears.
The "nature light" in his mind began to sway violently, and the faint halo seemed to be trying its best to dispel the surrounding boundless darkness.
Fang Cheng's heart trembled, and he almost withdrew directly from the state of samadhi.
It was different from the murmurs and prayers he heard on Yong'an Island.
The sound he heard this time was even more strange and bizarre.
It could even be said that it made Fang Cheng feel terrified.
It was as if countless people were in hell, suffering torture, and constantly wailing.
The impact caused by this mental level was dozens or hundreds of times more significant than the amplified sense of smell and hearing.
Fang Cheng forcibly endured it and listened carefully to distinguish.
Suddenly, he saw a simple and mysterious bronze door faintly appearing in the darkness.
The green light seeping from the bronze door illuminated the surrounding void with a green color.
Accompanying the tooth-aching sound of "creak", the nails used to seal the bronze door seemed to be slowly forced out one by one.
Then, a low and bizarre mooing sound rang out suddenly.
The door slowly opened.
Streams of black mist surged out, emitting a strong stench of decay.
From within the door, there were faint, overlapping, and extremely miserable wailing sounds, as if countless people were enduring tragic torture.
It seemed... that what was connected inside was a place even more painful and deeper than hell.
Seeing this, beads of sweat could not help but seep out from Fang Cheng's face.
He suddenly opened his eyes, looked forward, and then looked around.
Except for a prompt message appearing on the panel:
[Meditation Experience +3]
There was no other strange movement.
Fang Cheng raised his head and glanced at the wall clock, it was already past midnight.
At this moment, most people were sleepy and dozing off.
Some were lying on chairs, and some were spreading out the bedding they brought on the floor, sleeping soundly.
Seeing this, Fang Cheng got up and went to the bathroom to wash his face.
Then he walked out of the rest area and came to the front of the intensive care unit, watching his grandfather's condition through the window.
The values displayed by the monitoring instruments were within the normal range, and there was a night shift nurse taking care of him inside.
There was no need for him to stare at it all the time.
After watching for a while, Fang Cheng went to the balcony next door.
The corridor was quiet, most of the lights were turned off, making it look quite deep.
Fang Cheng leaned against the window alone, looking at the night scene at dawn, his eyes slightly narrowed.
He couldn't help but recall the terrifying sound and picture he had sensed in meditation before.
His gaze casually scanned around, and suddenly he saw a building opposite with a rehabilitation center sign hanging on it, and the lights were particularly bright at dawn.
There were also many roadblocks set up around, and soldiers were guarding with live ammunition.
The previous few times when he came to Ren'an Hospital, Fang Cheng also noticed that the hospital's security forces were much more adequate.
It was just that he hadn't seen this unusual scene with his own eyes at night.
"Strange, isn't it?"
Suddenly, a voice sounded from behind him.
