Stupid Odin
#120 - Interrupt Spellcasting (Conspiracy)
Jotunheim, inside a replica of Valhalla.
Odin was in the main hall, conversing alone with Mimir's head: "Mimir! I have always yearned to chat with you without reservation."
"My lord, I have also yearned for this," Mimir said, knowing Odin didn't believe him, but he still had to say it. Odin had already demanded his head; he couldn't imagine what else such an unprincipled Odin might do.
At this moment, Mimir's advice was absolutely sincere.
Ten pieces of advice, ten heartfelt truths, without a drop of insincerity.
"Last time, you said that I would only have a chance if the world were more chaotic. Have you thought it through?"
"I have a somewhat immature suggestion."
"Speak."
"Instigate the Dark Elves!"
"Oh? What use are those little black matchsticks?"
"As everyone knows, the Aesir gods favor the Light Elves and despise the unsightly Dark Elves. They don't even have their own realm and can only live among the dwarves in Svartalfheim, with some scattered in Niflheim."
"My eldest brother selects Dark Elf servants and Einherjar every year."
"That's not enough. Let them petition, demanding to establish a nation!"
Odin pondered for a moment. It was a good suggestion; even ordinary mortals would attract the attention of his brother, given his nature.
"Anything else?"
"That depends on whether you dare, my lord."
"What wouldn't I dare?"
"Have you heard of the Eight Great Ferocious Beasts?"
"Eight? I don't really know them too well."
"These are assessments made by busybodies." Mimir, with only his head remaining, began to explain them one by one:
First is the black dragon Nidhogg, who gnaws at the roots of the World Tree;
Second is the great eagle Vedrfolnir, residing atop the World Tree, higher than Asgard. When it flies over cities, it can create storms that destroy mortal settlements;
Third is the Jormungandr, the World Serpent, Loki's child, but it underwent an orderly transformation by the God-King Thanes, with orderly runes engraved on its skin and scales, its strength greatly diminished.
Fourth is the dragon Fafnir (Fafnir), originally a dwarf who, after transforming into a dragon, lived underground in Svartalfheim, destroying a dwarven kingdom and pulling its ruins into a chaotic space, guarding the dwarven treasure jealously.
Fifth is the Kraken, the North Sea monster.
Sixth is Skoll, the wolf who chases the sun.
Seventh is Garm, the hellhound.
Finally, the eighth is rumored to be a behemoth, but it also lives in Niflheim. No one has seen its true face, only terrifying footprints as large as ponds.
After listening about the eight great beasts, Odin frowned deeply.
Mimir hadn't finished speaking: "Actually, if Fenrir and Hati hadn't been killed, they would likely have been among the great beasts. It's just a pity they no longer have the chance to prove themselves."
"And the Kraken. It has already been killed."
"Uh, at least the Kraken was once a great beast."
What Odin was more concerned about was why Mimir's list, originally calculated as ten, had fully half of them being Loki's children or controlled by Loki's child (Hela)?
Was that bastard Loki the key to victory?
Odin began to regret it again: "If I reconciled with Loki…"
"My lord, the chances are slim. Jormungandr and Garm have already fallen under the God-King's gaze. His Majesty also trusts Hela greatly. At most, you can keep these three neutral when something happens, which would be quite good."
Odin felt a surge of frustration.
On the surface, his eldest brother was diligently managing the Nine Realms, but in reality, he was eliminating all emerging enemies and potential threats within the Nine Realms. He couldn't even borrow their strength.
If Jormungandr, Garm, and Skoll all listened to Thanes, it meant that even if he incited the other five ferocious beasts to attack Asgard together, they wouldn't necessarily have a power advantage.
Alas! The God-King's righteous reputation was too good, and his brother was so meticulous in his actions that he didn't leave many flaws.
Just as Odin was discussing his rebellion plan with Mimir, a piece of news stunned Odin.
A knock came from outside the hall.
Bala Giantwave's voice came: "My lord, Asgard has sent Thor, accompanied by the Valkyries."
Odin's heart skipped a beat, and he felt a surge of panic.
Wasn't it coming too fast?!
I was just planning it, and my brother already got wind of it?
Feeling that he shouldn't have revealed any flaws, Odin quickly straightened his expression, adjusted his armor, held Gungnir in his right hand, and gave Mimir's head a stern warning glance: "Don't you say anything out of line!"

"Of course not, my lord. After all, many of the ideas came from me," Mimir said humbly.
Odin sat upright on his throne, cleared his throat, and called out: "Invite my dear nephew in."
Soon after, the main door of the hall opened, and Thor, full of energy, led the Warriors Three and a group of Valkyries in, respectfully bowing to Odin.
"Thor greets the King of Jotunheim!"
"No need for ceremony, my good nephew. What wind has blown you here?" Odin pretended to be affectionate, stood up, walked down the steps, and patted Thor's shoulder, who was even taller than him.
Thor casually glanced at Mimir hanging on a pillar beside him: "Oh, isn't it because of my poor uncle-in-law. Hearing about you, Grandmother Bestla almost fainted… Oh, never mind. I can't keep up the act. Actually, Grandmother said—[Mimir, that old bastard, is getting his comeuppance for saying things he shouldn't have, right?]."
Mimir rolled his eyes upon hearing this.
It was true!
Although his sister's wisdom was far inferior to his, she wasn't wrong about this.
"All results have causes. My sister is right."
Thor shrugged, then equally affectionately put his arm around his unnatural-looking uncle's shoulder: "Father said Jotunheim is too chaotic and asked me to come and help you clean up those rebellious giants. To prevent tragedies like my uncle-in-law's from happening again."
Odin's facial expression was quite interesting, thinking: I just started nurturing the bandits to make myself important, and Thanes is already playing the cleanup game?
Odin clearly wanted to manage his expression, but he was really angry!
No more pretending, he was angry to begin with.
Odin looked indignant: "It was all my negligence! That's why Mimir was killed."
Hearing this, Thor patted his chest honestly: "It's okay! Uncle, with me helping you, I guarantee every rebellious giant won't live to see the next day!"
I, I really thank you!
Odin's lips twitched slightly.
As expected, sincerity is the true ultimate skill. Thor's guileless overconfidence caused tons of psychological damage to Odin.
But Odin knew that it was still his incredibly clever eldest brother pulling the strings.
And using such a magnificent reason!
Odin could only hope that Thor wouldn't find the group of giants he had hidden.
That seemed a bit difficult!
