#230 - A World at Civil War
The sudden shift from the calm of the spatial barrier to a world of endless yellow sand brought with it a sense of disorientation.
The world barrier was constantly vulnerable to the invasion of chaotic stones, and if the local inhabitants looked closely, they could indeed see flashes of light rippling in the deepest part of the sky.
But to the average person, it looked no different than wind and thunder in the sky.
In the eyes of transcendents or deities, this was nothing short of a rain of meteoric fire, a sign of great misfortune.
But…
The world is vast.
Gods can indeed observe every corner of the world, but they do not constantly observe every corner.
A ball of crimson light, invisible to ordinary mortals, fell from the sky, crashing into the ground and blasting out a huge circular crater in the sand.
Cú Chulainn, clad in a tight-fitting samurai outfit, leaped out from the bottom of the crater, his left hand instinctively shielding his face to avoid being struck by the flying sand.
“Damn it! I can feel the world suppressing me. Thirty percent? No! My strength has decreased by at least forty percent, and there will be no divine power to replenish it.” Cú Chulainn hesitated for a moment: “But did Gilgamesh just give me a hand? He’s here too? My divine king is really willing to let his prince charge ahead…”
Looking around, as a former hero returned from the Land of Shadows, Cú Chulainn could easily distinguish the hidden souls wandering in the atmosphere, not to mention he was the leader of this infiltration plan.
“I hope they can all find suitable bodies to possess.”
Meanwhile, in a magnificent palace, faint sounds of mournful sobbing could be heard.
Servants frequently and anxiously entered and exited the palace, scurrying about.
Physicians, covered in sweat, were trying to save a nobleman dressed in luxurious clothes and covered in blood, but they watched in despair as his breathing grew weaker and weaker, and they were helpless.
They were terrified, almost every muscle in their bodies trembling, for if they could not save this nobleman, they would most likely be buried alive with him.
Just then, for no apparent reason, the nobleman's breathing suddenly became smooth, and the wounds on his body miraculously healed rapidly.
“Ah! He’s alive?” the physicians exclaimed in surprise.
Unexpectedly, the nobleman lying on the bed underwent a dramatic change in appearance in just a few seconds—from an initially darker complexion to an exceptionally fair one. The noble black curly hair also turned into a brilliant gold in a few breaths.
When one of the physicians tentatively tried to touch the nobleman, a furious roar erupted.
“Insolent fools! Do not touch me with your filthy hands!”
In the next instant, a dazzling golden bronze scimitar appeared out of thin air, swiftly slicing the physicians into pieces, scattering them apart.
“Hah! Hah! Hah…” Gilgamesh sat up, drenched in sweat, staring at the corpses on the floor, momentarily stunned. Immediately, he controlled the body, changing back to the original complexion, fair with a reddish-brown hue, and his hair turned jet black.
The commotion in the medical room alarmed the guards outside, who rushed in to find their pharaoh surrounded by corpses.
“Great Pharaoh Amenhotep, what happened here?” the captain of the guard asked, filled with suspicion.
How clever was Gilgamesh, who was temporarily impersonating the pharaoh?
He immediately realized that his soul clone had possessed a body of noble status. He quickly scanned the memories of the original owner, and spoke in flawlessly authentic local language.
“The great god of death has weighed my merits and allowed me to obtain a second life. And these ignorant fools dared to defile my body, so I grant them destruction!” Gilgamesh seamlessly slipped into his new role.
“Your Majesty, your recovery is the good fortune of all people.”
On the other side, Cú Chulainn encountered a major crisis.
He… was out of food and water.
This time, he had entered in his true body for this infiltration.
The current Cú Chulainn was like the earliest Aesir gods, possessing some divine power, but still mostly reliant on his physical body.
This meant that he, like those non-elemental sixth and seventh generation Anunnaki gods, would still die if he went hungry for seven days.
Firstly, Cú Chulainn was unfamiliar with the area, and secondly, he came from the densely forested Celtic world and had never seen a desert before.
If he hadn't been wandering around in the dunes for three days and finally stumbled upon a group of people, he felt he would most likely fail, a dignified Kinunga god dying of thirst in the desert.
After seeing two mirages, Cú Chulainn no longer trusted the oases he saw.
Almost relying on his hunting instinct, he moved like a wisp of smoke, swiftly gliding across the soft dunes, heading straight for that camel caravan.
There were quite a few people in this group, mostly mortals, and Cú Chulainn was confident that as long as he killed that flamboyant leader sitting on the giant palanquin, he could defeat this force and survive.
Closer!
Even closer!
He was so agile, and taking advantage of the darkness, his light movements that allowed him to leap more than ten meters at a time were maximized. He pounced forward, and it wasn't until he leaped over two camel-riding knights that his tracks were discovered.
Too late!
His [Gáe Bolg] had already been thrust out. He was confident that unless the opponent possessed extremely high divinity or luck, they would not be able to escape this attack that pierced the heart.
However, just as he was about to succeed, he was shocked to discover that he recognized the other person's face.
To be precise, he recognized that extremely smug and arrogant face, as if everyone in the world were just insects beneath his feet.
“Gilgame…”
【Shut up! Cú Chulainn, put away your spear and obediently come over here!】 The divine voice that suddenly entered Cú Chulainn's mental sea stunned him.
At the last moment, he still stopped the spear, and replied with his limited divine power: 【Wait! How have you not been weakened by the world's laws?】
【Did you think I was a fool like you?】
Cú Chulainn's facial muscles twitched wildly. If it were any other guy, he would have definitely retorted on the spot.
Gilgamesh was the divine king's precious son!
Even if he was the youngest son, he was not someone a follower god like him could afford to offend.
“Greetings… Your Majesty!” Cú Chulainn put away his spear, jumped to the side of the palanquin, and knelt on one knee.
His appearance frightened Gilgamesh's guards. They drew their bronze scimitars and muttered something.
“Step back! He is my secret agent!” Gilgamesh's scolding silenced the guards. Although they didn't know when their pharaoh had acquired this strangely dressed subordinate, they still decisively chose to obey.
On the palanquin, he beckoned to Cú Chulainn: “Come over and report!”
Cú Chulainn did as he was told, outwardly leaning in to whisper something in his ear, but in reality using divine sound: 【What happened here?】
【I don't know. My soul clone came over and directly attached itself to this pharaoh, who should be a king. But I have already obtained a considerable amount of information.】
【Tell me.】
【This world seems to be in a civil war.】
