#47 - Will win
Chapter 47: We Will Win... ...
Even though Thanos had prepared to sacrifice certain areas and designs to be destroyed by the enemy, seeing Asgard in ruins still infuriated his subordinates.
But now, things were different.
Njord had lost three lives, nearly ten Vanir gods were completely dead, their heads chopped off, plus Odin had sneaked into their home and captured a bunch of Vanir goddesses, and another batch of Vanir gods had been slaughtered. Everyone had vented their anger.
A great victory had propelled Thanos's reputation to a new peak!
Hearing Thanos speak his thoughts, his subordinates revealed knowing smiles. Back then, the God-King had executed the two frost giant progenitors but hadn't completely exterminated them, instead incorporating many frost giants into his ranks.
This was conquest!
If they overturned the Vanir God race and made them surrender…
That would also be conquest!
Thor was a brash older brother eager to make a name for himself, but he had one endearing quality—he was very filial!
Perhaps because he knew his wisdom was far inferior to his father's, he was most willing to listen to what Thanos said.
Since Thanos had spoken, the other gods and giants would have no objections.
The only one who objected was Frey himself.
"No! Freyja! Don't give in!" With his mind heavily wounded, Frey actually tried to rush towards Freyja, but Thor seized the opportunity and charged up his power.
The dark clouds in the sky converged in a vortex shape directly above their heads. In less than a second, a flash of lightning appeared in the center of the vortex.
With a deafening "Boom," a terrifying pillar of lightning, ten meters thick, shot across the sky and descended from above, pouring into the hard head of Mjolnir, violently striking Frey's shoulder, instantly collapsing half of Frey's right side.
Frey's Sword of Victory fell to the ground with a clang.
"Ah!" Even though she had anticipated that the Aesir gods would not let Frey off so easily, this brutal scene still made Freyja's mind wander.
"He has more than one life left, doesn't he?" Thanos coldly commented.
"…Yes." Freyja helplessly lowered her head again.
Over there, facing Frey, who had lost his ability to resist and was in a dying state, Thor stylishly gave Frey a Spartan kick.
"Thud!" Frey flew out like a cannonball.
In his dying moments, Frey glared fiercely at Thanos, wanting to say something cursing, but all that came out of his mouth was blood.
"Ugh!"
In the distance, Thanos gazed at Frey, who was in despair and pain.
He brazenly pulled Freyja into his arms, embracing her soft waist, and said, "Nothing is difficult in this world if you are willing to give up! Rest assured, I look forward to the day you return to Asgard. As an enemy, or kneeling at the foot of my palace steps…"
Frey flew further and further away until he turned into a shooting star, far beyond the borders of the Asgard continent, and fell into the lower realm.
He hated it so much! The wind was so cold!
Even more despairing! Even more helpless!
Finally, his divine body could no longer hold on, and it burst into a large cloud of light in mid-air. When he regained consciousness again, it would be another life.
For a true god who possessed many mysterious magics, such a fall would not cost Frey his life.
Suddenly, a pair of wings of light unfolded behind him, allowing him to recover control of his divine body from the rapid fall.
Soon after, at the Sea God Temple in Vanaheim.
"Look! Frey!" Nerthe excitedly discovered that his son had returned safely.
Without a moment of warmth, Frey, with tears already streaming down his face, strode up to his father, the god Njord, and frantically grabbed his father's shoulders: "Father! We will attack Asgard again, right? We will take back Freyja and the others, right? We will win, right?"
Njord waved his hand, somewhat disgusted, knocking Frey's hand away.
In the past, he wouldn't have minded such an action.
Not today!
He needed to maintain his dignity as God-King in every sense of the word.
His mouth wriggled for a long time, finally squeezing out a few words: "We… we will win. We will definitely win. We just need some time to gather more gods!"
Even Njord's words lacked confidence, so where did the gods and attendants below get their confidence?
In just one battle, the Aesir gods had knocked out most of the morale of the Vanir gods.
Upon hearing this, Frey's heart immediately sank.
Gather?
Didn't this mean that his father had already admitted that he was inferior to Thanos?
Moreover, who knew when that giant cow would lick out more of its kin?
No, licking out more Aesir gods was also possible.
Both the two great god races and this world were a huge blind box. No one possessed complete memories from before the ice age, and no one knew how many more compatriots were buried under the glaciers, waiting for that giant cow to discover them.
The only thing that could be confirmed was that there probably wouldn't be another attack tonight, but tomorrow, those damned giant stone throws would probably start again.
Njord said with a straight face, "I will greatly strengthen the island's protective shield."
What was the cost?
It was foreseeable that the sea would gradually lower its water level.
He didn't know if this sea would really dry up, but he only knew that there was no better way now.
Compared to the dark clouds hanging over the heads of the Vanir gods, the Aesir gods were much happier.
Leaving Heimdall and several other dutiful gods and a bunch of Valkyries as sentries, the rest of the gods and giants all gathered in the Palace of Joy.
Thanos was going to reward them for their merits.
Amidst the stirring and cheerful music, Thor announced the rewards in an excited voice, replacing his father.
"First of all, it is our most meritorious God-King, who ambushed the damned Vanir thieves with perfect tactics and knocked off three lives from their leader, Njord. To praise his achievements, we offer him the most beautiful goddess of the Vanir race—Freyja!"
Thor excitedly struck a golden shield with his divine hammer, making a crisp clang. All the surrounding combat-type gods and giants also struck everything hard and metallic at hand with their weapons, echoing the sound.
Whistles and cheers were endless.
Just as the dwarven musicians were playing, the main door of the Palace of Joy suddenly opened. Under the backdrop of the sword dance of a group of beautiful Valkyries, Freyja, wearing silver armor on her upper body and a war skirt inlaid with armor plates on her lower body, stepped into the hall heroically.
On the bright red carpet, her bare feet were as light as butterflies fluttering among flowers. Her elegant sword dance gave the onlookers an unparalleled visual enjoyment.
Accompanied by the increasingly intense short notes of the band, her beautiful spinning became faster and faster, circle after circle, stirring up the ribbons and bells on the edge of the war skirt, refreshing the audience.
She spun all the way to the steps in front of Thanos's throne, then suddenly leaned down and sat on the ground, revealing her fair and slender legs while raising the unopened ceremonial sword in her hands above her head.
She was no longer a delicate captive. At this moment, she was surrendering to the Aesir God-King as a Vanir war goddess.
"Ooh, ooh, oh!" The excitement of the gods and giants reached its peak.
Thanos walked down the steps, took the ceremonial sword, and handed it to the Valkyrie beside him. He hooked Freyja's pointed chin and met her charming eyes that were enough to bewitch all living beings: "Very good! From today on, you are a goddess who belongs only to me."
"As your God-King commands."
Pulling Freyja over, he let her sit in his arms in a princess carry, and Thanos smiled and gestured for Thor to continue.
