Stupid Odin

#66 - Loki's Bet

Downes didn't care how those heroic spirits developed in another world.

As the supreme being, in many cases, human life is just a number.

Moreover, the so-called heroic spirits are a brand-new version of waste utilization. People are already dead, and Downes gives them another chance in life. They should thank Downes.

What is the risk of dying again?

For heroic spirits who are inherently bold, it is not a problem at all.

Downes launched this batch of heroic spirits in one go and didn't care about it.

This is just a dispensable move. If it really succeeds, it's a pleasant surprise. If it fails, Downes won't be annoyed either. The God-King should waste some resources.

With the foundation of Asgard, a mere batch of heroic spirits can be afforded.

He once again turned his attention to Loki.

Five years ago, he punished Loki to compensate Sif with a head of magical golden hair. Loki quickly resolved it back then, but the method he used was not so glorious.

It's very simple, Loki didn't pay.

He is not the direct superior of the dwarves, and even for Downes, he wouldn't fail to pay the dwarves for their work. Back then, when Downes had the dwarves and gnomes forge [Gungnir] and [Sword of the Nine Realms], the reward was teaching the dwarves a portion of the Rune and Runas spells.

The process of Loki asking the dwarves to create a magical wig was different from the method in the epic. When he brought the gold given by Odin to the dwarven master craftsman Ivaldi, Loki falsely conveyed the divine decree, saying it was Downes's order.

Ivaldi gladly accepted the order, but afterwards, he reported to Downes in a chance encounter, and Downes only then learned about this matter.

Downes silently agreed: "This is indeed my order. Ivaldi, I can pay for Loki's reward on his behalf."

"No need, no need! It is our honor to serve the God-King."

"However, if Loki looks for you again, you should still charge for the reward."

"Uh, I understand."

Loki's duality was reflected today, five years later.

On this day, he wandered to the dwarves' workshop again, falsely conveying the divine decree again.

"Ivaldi, I am entrusted by God-King Downes to have you build a fun, no, a magical treasure ship that can sail swiftly on the sea for His Majesty. You know, His Majesty has recently received the divine duty of [Ocean], and it is precisely when he cannot be distracted."

Downes didn't issue this order at all. Loki purely wanted to see if the old dwarf could come up with something new.

As expected of the God of Mischief, when Loki is talking nonsense in a serious manner, you can't tell whether he is telling the truth or a lie.

Ivaldi instinctively remembered what Downes had said before. He was skeptical, but in the end, he did as he was told.

He spent a considerable amount of effort and took a month to create the magical ship [Skíðblaðnir].

As soon as Loki left the workshop after receiving the goods, he ran into Ivaldi's second son, Brokkr, and he boasted triumphantly: "I heard that among Ivaldi's sons, Sindri has the greatest reputation, but even he can't make such an exquisite artifact, right?"

Brokkr is an honest man, but he has also heard about his father suspecting that Loki had falsely conveyed the divine decree back then. Looking at Loki's frivolous appearance, he instinctively felt that his father had been deceived by Loki again.

Moreover, even for father and son, as craftsmen, reputation is extremely important. Isn't Loki scolding Sindri for not being able to surpass his father by saying this?

Brokkr raised an eyebrow: "What if my brother can make it?"

Loki was so excited that he completely forgot himself: "If he can really make it, I'll let Sindri cut off my head."

Sometimes, dwarves earn just this kind of spirit.

In the epic, Loki found the dwarves to make [Gungnir], the magic ship, and the golden wig, a total of three artifacts, before showing off to Brokkr. Sindri and Brokkr couldn't stand it, so they made three artifacts, including Thor's hammer, to contend with the three treasures in Loki's hands.

In this life, because of Downes's intervention, the historical process is already different from the [Edda] epic. Gungnir was just found someone to process, but Thor's hammer [Mjolnir] was created early under Downes's instructions. Back then, it was precisely because Loki was mischievous, turning into a horsefly and biting Brokkr's hand, that he stopped pulling the bellows, resulting in the hammer handle of the Thunder Hammer being shortened.

Although [Mjolnir] is still amazingly powerful, in this life it is regarded as a disgrace by Sindri and Brokkr.

So it was rare for Loki to court death himself, and Brokkr immediately agreed to this death bet: "Okay! If my brother can make a better artifact than [Skíðblaðnir], I want your head!"

Loki was stunned for a moment. He felt danger, but he was a little unwilling: "If you can't make it, or it's not as good as my ship?"

"If you don't do well, everything will be sent to you for nothing. As for the standard of evaluation, everything will be judged by God-King Downes Paulson."

"Uh, okay! It's a deal." Loki is like this, either courting death or walking on the road to courting death.

His aggressive tactic immediately made the dwarven brothers work with all their strength.

I saw Sindri soaking a piece of pigskin in gold, seemingly casually throwing it into the furnace to burn, and before long, a huge and mighty golden boar appeared.

Sindri also bought one get one free, and additionally created a magic gold bracelet.

Brokkr sneered: "Loki, didn't you say that my brother is not as good as my father? Now the gold bracelet for benchmarking the golden wig has also been made. Let's go find His Majesty the God-King to judge."

The dwarven brothers, without saying a word, grabbed Loki and made a scene all the way to Asgard's Golden Palace, which also attracted the gods to come and watch the show.

Downes looked at the two groups of guys under the steps of the throne and felt quite interesting after listening to their statements.

As expected, with Loki present, Asgard would really not be boring.

For most Asgardian gods, you never know whether Loki will bring you a surprise or a fright next second.

For a certain transmigrator God-King, this is another matter.

This is called recreating classic stories!

Sindri is not good at words, and most of the process is stated by Brokkr on his behalf.

Brokkr saluted again and said: "Your Majesty the Supreme God-King, this is the situation, please make the fairest ruling."

Placed on the left-hand side under the steps of the throne is the artifact treasure ship [Skíðblaðnir].

Don't look at it being 320 meters long and 78 meters wide, the size of an aircraft carrier. It can be shrunk to the size of a palm after chanting a spell and put in a pocket.

Its shape is very similar to the classic [Viking longship].

It has a relatively flat bottom, a high-raised dragon head figurehead, and a classic square sail.

The decks of the Midgardians in this era, whether warships or cargo ships, are open-air, so they cannot provide shelter from the wind and rain.

Wind, rain, and huge waves still make the Midgardians cold and wet. It is common for people to freeze to death and be swept into the sea and drowned by huge waves at night. It can be seen that humans believe that this kind of conquest across the sea must have unparalleled courage and determination, and must endure great pain before achieving victory.
