Xiucai is a person with outstanding talents! It first appeared in "Guanzi·Xiaokuang" and became a subject of scholar promotion since the Han Dynasty.

This subject was the most important in the Northern and Southern Dynasties. "Beitang Shuchao" quoted from "Jin Ling", "To plan a scholar, one must master all five strategies and be worshiped as a doctor."

The Sui and Tang Dynasties also had the Xiucai Department. In the early Tang Dynasty, the Xiucai Department had the highest ranking, and there were only one or two scholars each year. The Xiucai Department was abolished many times.

During the reign of Emperor Taizu of the Ming Dynasty, the number of scholars who were promoted to the top of the list of scholars was all through the private examination and not through the imperial examination. Later, it specifically referred to students from prefectures, prefectures, and counties.

Xiucai is similar to the scholar in "Book of Rites". It is a general term, but it is also a scholar with outstanding talents and is not limited to those who have read poetry and books. In the Han and Jin Dynasties, it became one of the subjects for recommending talents; in the Sui and Tang Dynasties, it became a subject for selecting talents.

Scholarship was a subject, which was later abolished. At the same time, it became a general term for scholars. In the Song Dynasty, the method of the late Tang Dynasty was followed. Anyone who strived for recommendation was called a scholar. The so-called "not ranking scholar" began in the Song Dynasty.
