So whether CMOS is good or not mainly depends on the size of the sensor. The larger the size, the stronger the photosensitivity and the better the imaging effect.
As reflected in a single pixel, the larger the size, the stronger the photosensitivity, and the better the imaging quality.
This is also the reason why many people say that cmos does not depend on the manufacturing process.
But in fact, it doesn’t depend on the manufacturing process, it’s just an analog circuit that converts light into digital signals.
Below the analog circuit, there is usually a digital circuit, which is responsible for processing the signals from the analog circuit, and it is very process-intensive.
If the process is too old and the signal processing speed is too slow, the picture may even freeze. On the contrary, it can reduce power consumption and heat generation, and improve the processing speed, frame rate, bit rate, etc. of photos and videos.
Therefore, manufacturing a CMOS usually requires two lithography machines with different processes. First, use an advanced process to brush the digital circuit, and then use a large-scale process to brush a layer of analog circuits.
This structure can be simply understood as a house.
The person standing on the rooftop is responsible for receiving the light signal, and then the person downstairs is responsible for recording and organizing the data.
If there are too many people standing too densely on the top of the building (too many pixels), and the number of people downstairs does not keep up, it will not be recorded. It may be reported ten times from above, and only one recording and sorting is completed below.
Therefore, the large base, large aperture, and cmos area utilization rate proposed by Kangchi must be above 90%, which undoubtedly puts forward high requirements and expectations for the imaging level of this cmos.
In fact, the pixel size of Sony's Exmor RS sensor is 2.4 microns. Based on the size of 1 inch, it should be able to achieve 21 million pixels, but it only has 12 million pixels, which means that its actual use area is less than 60%. It is a deliberate attempt to squeeze out toothpaste.
