The Admiral of Hogwarts
#101 - travel
Hugo and his family enjoyed a wonderful dinner. Thanks to the money they had earned from starting their international trade business, and wanting to fulfill the promise he had made to his wife in his youth, they decided to stay at the famous Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York. Naturally, a top-tier hotel like this would provide its guests with top-notch dining services.
As tourists, the Granger family naturally wanted to try the local specialties. So, they skipped the two European-style restaurants and went straight to the American restaurant. After a quick look at the menu, they quickly chose a set meal that looked fantastic for their dinner that night.
Contrary to popular belief, true American cuisine is not just synonymous with simple and fast. Refined American dishes, like French haute cuisine, require sitting down and savoring slowly. After spending more than an hour enjoying a feast that included onion rings, chicken bacon potato soup, fried chicken, grilled beef quesadilla platter, and Indian chicken mini burgers, the Granger family completely refreshed their view of American food.
"I must say, tonight's food was indeed delicious," Mr. Granger commented before going to bed. "At least, compared to the top cuisines of other countries, American food isn't as bad as we thought. It's just that the American food we've seen before has only been fast food, which is why everyone has that misconception."
Because they had done so much during the day and were exhausted, coupled with thoroughly enjoying a full American feast in the evening, the Granger family only chatted briefly about Hugo's encounters at the Magical Congress of the United States before retiring to their rooms to rest.
Starting the next day, they spent two days roughly touring New York, or more precisely, several classic tourist spots on Manhattan Island, such as Times Square, Fifth Avenue, Central Park, Wall Street, and the Statue of Liberty. However, due to the tight schedule, they only took a cursory look at these tourist destinations.
On the afternoon of the second day, Mr. Granger took the children to Bayonne, New Jersey, which was more than thirty kilometers away from downtown New York City. This was what Hugo had requested before they came, and Mr. Granger, considering that letting the children see authentic American countryside could broaden their horizons, agreed to the request.
"We'll go see the surrounding countryside tomorrow. I even made a special call to order a country-style lunch for everyone." After arriving in Bayonne, it was getting dark, so the Granger family went straight to the hotel they had booked. Of course, the hotel here couldn't compare to the top hotels in New York, but the country-style dinner here was quite distinctive.
After everyone finished dinner, they naturally went back to their rooms early to sleep. After all, this city was a small city, and given the state of security in America, going out at night was not a good idea. Especially since, on the way here, Hugo had noticed that one of the gas stations had bulletproof glass installed in its windows.
In America, there are many ways to figure out if a place is safe. One of the simplest is to look at the material of the window glass at nearby gas stations or convenience stores at night, because bulletproof glass is much thicker than ordinary glass. And places with bulletproof glass often indicate that shootings frequently occur in the surrounding area.
Fortunately, the hotel where Hugo and his family were staying was five or six kilometers away from that gas station, so from a safety perspective, there shouldn't be much of a problem here. But because this was a family trip, Mr. Granger felt that safety was paramount. It was best to stay inside the hotel as much as possible.
When they arrived at their rooms on the third floor, they used their room keys to open two adjacent bedrooms. This was because the hotel here was small, with only single and double rooms available. In this situation, Hugo and Mr. Granger would naturally share a room, while Hermione and Mrs. Granger would stay in the adjacent room.
This was good news for Hugo, because it meant he only needed to make his father fall asleep, instead of having to drug three people at once. After entering the room, Hugo and his father took turns showering in the washroom, then sat on the bed, watched TV for a while, and went straight to sleep.
"Wake up." At exactly 2:00 AM, Hugo was awakened by the victorious voice in his mind. After confirming that everyone was sound asleep, Hugo took out a small bottle of hypnotic fragrance he had made with the Weasley twins and put it under Mr. Granger's nose, letting him inhale a little to ensure he wouldn't wake up at night and realize he was gone. Then, he quietly pushed open the window and climbed down the outer wall to the ground using the drainpipe.
The reason Hugo chose this place as the destination for their trip wasn't simply to appreciate the American countryside. It could even be said that the reason he specifically chose this place wasn't because of the surrounding countryside, which wasn't much different from other places on the East Coast, but to summon a famous ship girl.
After climbing out of the window, Hugo, guided by Victory, "borrowed" a bicycle near the hotel, likely used by an employee on the night shift, and began riding towards the seaside. Twenty minutes later, they bypassed several guys lurking suspiciously on the streets at this time of night and arrived at a factory area by the sea.
This wasn't a factory that was still in operation. All the doors and windows had been destroyed, and even the metal parts of those doors and windows had long been taken away by someone and sold for money. The entire factory looked as eerie and terrifying as the locations where ghost stories take place.
However, Hugo, who had seen a lot of ghosts in the past year, was now very calm. He first transformed his appearance into that of the unlucky admiral, then ignored the flickering lights and eerie howls inside the abandoned factories and walked towards the sea with a pistol in hand.
After bypassing several dark factories and passing through a wooden wall with a large hole, Hugo finally saw the destination of this trip: a beach full of various kinds of garbage and several concrete trestle bridges extending into the sea. Other than a few owls hooting, there was nothing else here.
"The information we checked wasn't wrong, right? But it feels like this place has been abandoned for a long time." Because his body had been strengthened before, Hugo could roughly see the surrounding situation by the moonlight. Judging from the rivet marks left on the ground and the traces of previously installed machinery, this place should have been a factory related to shipbuilding, but the rotten wood and rusty steel all indicated that this place had been abandoned for a long time.
"That's right. This place was probably abandoned more than ten years ago. Because of the development of the shipbuilding industry in Japan and South Korea, the company behind this factory naturally moved the factory to those countries. And this place was abandoned." Victory appeared on Hugo's shoulder and said to him. "But for us, it doesn't matter if this place is abandoned. It doesn't affect our next summoning activity."
"Okay, I hope so." Hugo said after looking at the dark sea in the distance. Then, he summoned his phone and opened the program. "Let me see where that place is?"
