The Admiral of Hogwarts
#249 - Day 1
Because he received good news, Hugo slept especially soundly that night. By the time he had breakfast the next morning, he had fully recovered from his previous fatigue.
"What a bunch of boring people!" Hermione, sitting next to Hugo, glanced at the Slytherin table with some disgust, where Malfoy was making a ridiculous fainting gesture, causing everyone to burst into laughter.
"With people like that, you lose if you even look at them," Hugo said, taking a sausage from the plate in front of him and placing it on his own plate. "If you ignore him, you'll find he's no different from a clown."
"You're right, we should be thinking about more interesting things now," Hermione said, looking at her timetable as she ate. "For example, we have several new classes to attend today."
"Yes, for example, you have Arithmancy and Muggle Studies at 9 o'clock today," Hugo said, smiling at his sister. "You've found a way to attend both classes."
"Of course, but I can't tell you the specifics, because I promised Professor McGonagall I wouldn't reveal it," Hermione said with a smile and a nod.
Arithmancy is a divination that uses numbers to explain a person's personality and destiny, or to predict the future. It is based on Pythagorean philosophy and Kabbalistic tradition, which claims that "the world is built on the power of numbers."
Although Hugo and Hermione weren't very interested in predicting the future, they still studied these subjects very seriously.
Because this knowledge of Arithmancy can be extended to many areas. For example, whether it's alchemy or ancient rune magic, a lot of calculations are required to use them.
After this class, Hermione indeed left for a few minutes under the pretext of going to the restroom. When she returned, Veneto quietly told Hugo that Hermione had changed a lot and must have completed a time travel.
The second class was Transfiguration with Gryffindor, but because of Professor Trelawney's death prediction in the previous class, the atmosphere in the classroom seemed very bad.
"Alright! Who did Trelawney predict would die this year?" After Ron told her that the previous class was Divination, Professor McGonagall, who had spent most of her life at the school, immediately understood why the atmosphere in her classroom was so bad.
"I—" Harry pointed to himself with a dazed expression and said.
"I understand." Professor McGonagall walked to the podium and looked at the students. "I've known Professor Trelawney since her first day at the school. As far as I know, she randomly predicts the death of a student in her first class every year."
"However, because Divination is one of the most imprecise subjects in magic, and there has never been a completely accurate seer in this world. So, at least until now, all twelve students who have been predicted to die are still alive."
"You look extremely healthy, Potter, so don't blame me if I don't go easy on your homework today. I guarantee that if you die, you won't have to hand in this assignment."
As soon as Professor McGonagall finished speaking, all the students in the room burst into laughter. Of course, the oppressive atmosphere completely disappeared.
After Transfiguration, Hugo and the others walked to the Great Hall with everyone else for lunch.
"You were right, not taking Divination was the right decision," Hermione said, helping Hugo take a sausage roll from nearby and placing it on his plate. "I think you can only learn how to make up stories in that class."
"My dear sister, you're being a bit prejudiced," Hugo said, taking a bite of the sausage roll. "Real divination in the world is very powerful, and it even involves a series of forces related to fate."
"But your conclusion is correct, because the most important thing in this magic is talent. If you don't have the talent, you basically won't learn anything useful."
After finishing lunch as quickly as possible, Hugo and the others quickly returned to the common room to get their textbooks and headed straight for Hagrid's hut. Because this was Hagrid's first class today, they hoped to visit him in advance.
When Hugo, Hermione, and Veneto ran to the entrance of Hagrid's hut, they saw Hagrid walking out of his hut with a circle of dead chicken martens around his waist.
"How's the first day of the new semester going?" Hagrid said excitedly, waving when he saw Hugo and the others.
"You'll be having my first class in half an hour, I got up at five o'clock this morning, got everything ready... hope everything goes smoothly... I'm a... teacher... to be honest..."
Because he was a little excited, Hagrid seemed very happy and couldn't even speak in complete sentences.
No wonder, this should be an important milestone in his life, so it's understandable that his emotions are fluctuating a lot.
"Yes, the first class is indeed very important. Just like when we first came to Hogwarts," Veneto stepped forward and patted Hagrid's forearm, then asked. "Can we take a look at the magical creatures you're going to introduce to us in advance?"
"Of course, of course you can." After hearing Veneto's question, Hagrid waved the dead chicken marten in his hand and said. "Come on, take a look at this magical creature I've prepared for you, I swear you've never seen anything like it—"
After following Hagrid into the forest for dozens of meters, a temporary animal pen appeared in the woods. And in this animal pen, whose symbolic meaning may be greater than its practical meaning, twelve strange-looking fellows were walking around inside.
They have the bodies, hind legs, and tails of horses, but their forelegs, wings, and heads seem to be those of eagles. They have steel-colored sharp beaks and bright orange eyes. The claws on their forelegs are half a foot long and look deadly.
Each beast has a thick collar of feathers around its neck, tied with a long chain, the ends of which are fastened to steel rings fixed to the ground.
"Hippogriffs!" Hugo and the others recognized the identities of these animals in an instant. Obviously, their appearance was very special, so as long as they knew something about this animal, they could call out their names immediately.
"That's right, it seems you've previewed it beforehand," Hagrid said, nodding. "According to the course standards, you should now be exposed to magical creatures classified as XXX or below by the Ministry of Magic."
"So I specifically found a way to get such a group of guys, hoping to leave a deep impression on everyone in the first class."
"Yes, this thing will indeed leave a deep impression on everyone." Looking at these majestic guys, Hugo had to admit that they did exude a certain beauty.
"So the content of your class is to introduce these beautiful big guys to everyone?"
"More than that." After hearing Hugo use 'beautiful' to describe these hippogriffs, Hagrid said excitedly. "I will also invite some students to ride these beautiful guys to leave them with a deep impression."
"Hagrid, XXX-level magical creatures are not suitable for third-year students who have not received the corresponding education to come into close contact with," Hermione exploded before Hugo could say anything after hearing Hagrid's words.
"Perhaps in the eyes of experienced people like you, they are very easy to control, but for all—" Speaking of this, she glanced at Veneto and then changed her words. "—for most students, they are deadly dangerous."
"Don't worry, they have all received professional training, and they are not completely uncontrollable beasts." After hearing Hermione's words, Hagrid quickly defended himself.
"You're right, Hagrid," Hugo shrugged and said. "But the problem is that everyone hasn't received the corresponding training. If some accident happens, it will be troublesome."
