The Admiral of Hogwarts

#267 - Travel to Brittany

After discussing these serious matters, the ship girls chatted with Hugo about Christmas. The ship girls were very happy with the gifts Hugo gave them this year, so they also prepared some return gifts.

Of course, the ship girls are still keeping the specific return gifts a secret, only saying that they will give Hugo a surprise the day before Christmas.

The next three days were very peaceful. Hugo and Hermione spent almost all their time in the study doing some of their summer homework. Three days later, the Granger family took a plane to Brest early in the morning.

Brest is an important naval port on the Brittany Peninsula in northern France and a thriving city. After leaving the airport, they saw a middle-aged man in a gray suit standing by a car to pick them up.

"Welcome, welcome, Chris, and your wife and children." Seeing the Granger family, the middle-aged man immediately stepped forward and hugged Mr. Granger, then shook hands with the others one by one.

"It's a pleasure to see you too, Gilles." Mr. Granger said, introducing his friend and partner to his family.

"This is Mr. Gilles Prowett, my college classmate and partner. He is now an accountant and has helped us a lot in finance."

"Just a little help—" Gilles said with a smile, then asked everyone to get in the car. Soon, the car drove out of the city and into the suburbs, finally entering a yard surrounded by hedges.

"This is my little farm. We come here every year for vacation. We'll stay here today, and tomorrow afternoon we can go to the ski lodge in the Alps," Mr. Prowett introduced after getting out of the car.

This is a common country farm in northern France, and it doesn't look very grand. But both the surrounding environment and the architecture of the manor itself make people feel very comfortable and relaxed.

After entering the door, they first passed through the dining room. Then they went all the way up the wooden stairs. After a short walk, they stopped in front of the window at the end of the corridor.

"This is the countryside, so the overall conditions of the room may not be as comfortable as a hotel room in the city," Mr. Prowett said after opening the door. "But compared to those hotels in the city, this place has more Brittany style—"

"This is already very good." Mr. Granger sincerely praised. Although the room's style seemed a bit old, it was clear from the neat furniture that the host had put a lot of effort into entertaining guests.

More importantly, these houses have obviously been modernized. So whether it's appliances or bathrooms, everything is available, and it doesn't seem as old as it first appears.

"Actually, the view from the second floor is quite good—" While the adults started talking, Hugo and his sister came to their room and stood in front of the window looking out.

At this time, it started to snow. Through the fluttering snowflakes, Hugo's sight passed over the hedgerows made of evergreens and saw the somewhat bare farmland in this season.

After packing their luggage, Hugo and his sister walked towards the door. But just as his hand touched the doorknob, he was suddenly attracted by a palm-sized pattern on the side of the door.

"What are you looking at?" Hermione, who was behind Hugo, saw him suddenly stop there with his hand on the handle, so she asked curiously, "Is there a spider?"

"No, look at this." Hugo said, gesturing for Hermione to stand next to him, then pointing to a pattern clearly carved with a knife on the side of the door, and said, "What do you think this pattern looks like?"

"It feels like two sparklers crossed together, and the kind that are lit." Hermione said after taking a look, "Besides that, I think the person who drew this picture is very likely to have obsessive-compulsive disorder."

"Wait, where did you see the obsessive-compulsive disorder from?" After hearing Hermione's words, Hugo felt confused. Because he really didn't know how his sister could see the tendency of obsessive-compulsive disorder from this picture.

"It's very simple, haven't you noticed that this picture is completely symmetrical?" Hermione said with a matter-of-fact expression. "Even the sparks ejected from each sparkler are exactly the same."

"Okay, you may be right." Hugo shrugged the corners of his mouth with a helpless expression, and then said. "What I want to say is, if you ignore the fact that this picture doesn't have a frame, have you noticed that it looks a lot like the Beauxbatons emblem?"

"The Beauxbatons emblem—right!" After being reminded by Hugo, Hermione immediately reacted. "Thinking about what Dad told us before, it seems that there is indeed a wizard in this family."

"And that wizard is likely to be our peer." Hugo went to look at the content carved on the door and said. "Because this carving mark is very new, it looks like it was carved in the last two years."

After the Granger family packed their luggage and went downstairs, everyone started chatting in the warm living room. After all, the snow outside is getting heavier and heavier, and going out is not a good idea.

Just as it was approaching noon, the sound of a car horn came from outside the door. Soon, two ladies braved the wind and snow and walked in from outside the room, each carrying large and small bags of things.

Obviously, this was Mr. Prowett's wife and daughter returning from shopping outside. After a simple greeting, everyone quickly busied themselves preparing lunch.

Because all the adults present were busy preparing lunch, the task of entertaining Hugo and them fell on the host's daughter. Soon, this blonde young lady took them to chat in the living room on the first floor.

"Excuse me, are you a Beauxbatons student?" After introducing himself, Hugo directly asked the girl named Elaine.

The reason why he chose to be direct was because he saw that the pattern on the French colored jewelry decorated on the brooch on Miss Prowett's chest looked very complicated, but the core of it was the pattern of the Beauxbatons emblem.

"Uh—are you also a wizard?" Miss Prowett, who was just chatting awkwardly with Hermione about a TV series from a few years ago, was stunned after hearing Hugo's words, and then simply asked.

"Yes, my sister and I are both third-year Hogwarts students." Hugo replied with a smile, then looked at the other party politely.

"Let's get to know each other again." After hearing what Hugo said, the girl named Elaine smiled and put her hand on her chest and gave a rather elegant salute and said. "Elaine Prowett, a fifth-year Beauxbatons student."

After exchanging their identities, they all relaxed a lot, because this meant that both sides finally didn't have to rack their brains to think about what was popular here when they weren't living in the ordinary human world these past few years.

"A giant squid in the Black Lake that can interact with everyone? That's really cool." After Hugo and the others introduced some interesting things in Hogwarts, Elaine showed a surprised expression.

"Our school has ice sculptures that won't melt like diamonds, and there are mountain fairies singing beside us when we eat. But to be honest, there really isn't a creature as interesting as a giant squid."
