Chapter 34. Syrup

Creating a life form that is impossible with Earth’s biology. By doing so, turning the difficult terrain called “Open-pit Mine” into an environment teeming with life.

“Your ambition is grand, but how exactly are you going to do that?”

I have to use magic. Not just a part of the mystery, but literally an omnipotent, virtual concept that cannot exist in physics.

Fortunately, I have a lot of such ‘magic’.

One representative example is the recently created ‘Cream’.

“It’s a wonderful item. It condensed some of the world’s magic and the life force of the Nectar Spring to create a similar energy source.”

Yes. Fundamentally, Nectar Jellies also operated because they had the ultimate energy source called ‘Nectar’, which could consume any organic matter.

So here, I will use ‘Cream’ to create life forms. Virtual life forms. The most primitive life forms······. Let’s call it ‘Dough’. Ultimately, it will become a metal life form called ‘Bread’.

“The names are quite consistent.”

Using the knowledge of life creation that entered my mind while participating in the game. I actively utilize it.

Once there is a direction to create a certain life form, the image naturally comes to mind.

But in addition to that, I draw relatively specific life forms by adding the biotechnology knowledge I learned as an undergraduate, at work, and self-taught after quitting my job.

「You have created a new life form! What will you name it?」

“I won’t name it until a successful one comes out.”

「[Name Undecided] has been born.」

And I create it. A microorganism that lives on Cream and has a body composed of metal and soil components.

“You’ve already succeeded?”

And soon after, I was deeply disappointed.

It evolved into a life form that just eats Cream. It was no different from a degraded version of Nectar Jelly.

It seems that the problem is that ‘mineral’ components were included in the Cream.

Rather than eating the soil of the mine after eating the Cream, it is better to just eat the Cream and absorb the mineral components from it.

“It seems a lot of trial and error will be needed.”

“Indeed.”

Attempt 2. Trying to make it eat Cream and excrete water.

Failure. The reason is that Cream, unlike Nectar, had little moisture.

Attempt 3. Trying to construct a body using precious metals.

Failure. Precious metals are too chemically stable to form living organisms.

Attempt 4. Turning the existing rock jelly into metal jelly.

Half success. It functions as a living organism, but its survival rate is practically at the level of an endangered species. The Gamchi can just eat it and excrete metal powder, so it can’t function as a dessert legion. Still, I named it [Dough].

Attempt 5. Trying to fuse it with a ‘spirit’ type life form.

Total. Failure. When the spirit and life were fused, the basic life functions, including the ego, collapsed.

“When two minds are in the same place, it’s bound to break.”

“I didn’t know it was ‘bound to’. I don’t know anything about this field.”

Next attempt. I completely removed the ability to think from Dough and made it move purely on instinct.

“Cruel.”

By the way, sea squirts are chordates, so when they are young, they have eyes, nose, brain, muscles, nerves, and notochord, but when they become adults, they digest all of these and live as filter feeders rooted to the ground. It turns out intelligence is not that necessary. This Dough is the same.

“······Sea squirts are chordates?”

Yes. Sea squirts are closer to humans than anemones.

Anyway. The fusion of Dough, with its intelligence removed, and the spirit was half successful. Except for the fact that it has a lifespan of less than a week and can’t reproduce.

“It requires too much magic. And the combination of flow and nervous system wasn’t easy. That’s why it needed more magic.”

Damn. The direction seems right.

Where should I get the magic supply? Since flow comes from magic, I need a place with high magic.

“There are places with high magic in Veen’s world. You just don’t use them much.”

Ah. Right. Come to think of it······.

After the third collision, I obtained the 《Sand Desert》 and the 《Gravel Desert》.

They are currently left unattended for the operation of the 《Spirit World》, but those two areas are high magic pressure zones where spirit life forms live purely on magic.

I asked Sesaisa, who was still in my world, if it was possible to connect those two deserts and the open-pit mine.

The answer was ambiguous.

“It’s not impossible, but the efficiency is low.”

“Why?”

“To put it simply, the source of the ability is different. Those two deserts have nothing special in the material world. But they are connected to the spirit world. However, the open-pit mine just has the property of condensing magic in the material world.”

“?”

Seeing that I didn’t understand, Sesaisa immediately explained.

“Let me explain simply. You were originally meat, right? Did you have a brain?”

“I did. I don’t seem to have one now, though.”

So, does that mean Sesaisa was originally something without a brain? What kind of creature was it?

“The brain of meat creates a ‘flow.’ That’s what mental activity is.”

“Huh? No. Biologically…”

“So, the interaction of the brain is said to be right in the middle between the material world and the spiritual world.”

“!”

“So, with their willpower and the knowledge they have studied, the meat can create a flow and use mysteries. In other words, the interaction in the material world purely affects the spiritual world, and that is also a mystery. Conversely, the flow of the spiritual world, even if purely spiritual, can create matter… That is also a mystery.”

“Are you talking about something like the pineal gland that René Descartes claimed?”

“???”

“Oh, right. You wouldn’t know the philosophers of my world. Anyway, I understand. In short, the brain is a mysterious organ.”

“And, the ‘Nectar Spring’ and the ‘Open-pit Mine’ are terrains with similar functions, but they are not the spiritual world. They are lands that touch the mystery but create nectar by absorbing magical power through a purely material mechanism.”

A land that touches the mystery through a material mechanism is called a spiritual land. I don’t know why that guy uses such expressions. He wouldn’t be speaking Chinese, would he?

“It’s not impossible or difficult to connect the spiritual land and the spiritual world… but the efficiency is low. Because the flows between the two are not compatible. In the end, to make the flows compatible, you have to insert something like a huge structure or medium in between, and with current technology, even I can’t do it. Forcing it would waste a tremendous amount of divinity. That’s why I don’t directly connect the Nectar Spring, a spiritual land, with the spiritual world at this stage.”

So, it means that an additional distribution process makes the price higher. I understand.

And I also understand that my angel is of no help at all.

“What are you thinking so much about? I’m just giving you the minimum advice I can.”

“Give me the maximum advice. What do you mean by minimum?”

But fortunately, there was another terrain with high magical power in my world.

The ‘Constellation.’ This terrain is said to be a natural spiritual world. Instead of connecting it, if I just let the magical power pour down from above, the magical pressure in the open-pit mine would increase.

“In fact, the previous Elguano player also set up the terrain that way. It was just scattered due to the destruction of Yog-Tosos.”

Then that’s even better. I’ll give it a try.

With the help of Sesaisa, I connected the ‘Constellation’ to the Creamland of my world and let the magical power pour down.

As the resource of magical power became abundant, the [Dough] fused with spirits acquired hard shells and strong muscles, and seemed to have gained an ecological status similar to jelly.

However.

“They all died not long after…”

“…”

Another failure. Why? When I looked into the reason, I found the answer.

The magical power pouring down from the ‘Constellation’ changed the composition of the cream in Creamland on the ground, and the [Dough] here couldn’t withstand the cosmic magical power coming down from the constellation and their nervous systems melted.

The flow, it’s not easy.

My research stopped here. Not because I lacked perseverance, but because no matter how much I thought about it, I couldn’t come up with any more methods at this point.

However, I was not alone. It seemed that Clone 5, who was independently handling the Nectar Spring without any relation to me, had discovered something.

‘Nectar Oasis Manager’ Clone 5, I was in charge of verifying the most important ecosystem in this world.

First. Among the fragments of the gods, there are domains and spiritual realms.

Second. The Nectar Spring is a domain.

Third. The function of that domain is to condense the flow of magic to create nectar.

And Apohjus, whether it parasitizes that domain or not, is like a separate life form merged into one. The idea of fairies feels more terrifying than I thought.

“The only one who claims to have created such a thing and calls it a fairy is Mr. Bean.”

Strangely, as soon as I gained the ability to clone, he also split himself and attached to each clone, and the angel’s nonsense is no longer important… I hope Apohjus doesn’t get hurt hearing it.

First of all, the current level of the Nectar Spring is 9. It’s a crazy number. Apohjus’s level is also 9. It will soon become 10.

The diameter of the Nectar Spring is nearly 8 km. The depth is 100 meters. The area is about 50 square kilometers.

Although I call it the Nectar Oasis~, it is really incredibly vast.

As far as I know, the largest oasis on Earth is 85 square kilometers. In other words, if the level rises a little more, it will surpass the largest oasis on Earth and should be called the Nectar Lake.

And the entire Nectar Oasis, boasting this enormous quantity, is filled with nectar. Unlike before, it does not come into contact with the freshwater layer, and thanks to Apohjus’s efforts, even if water continues to be generated, it is all consumed internally.

Instead, no other life forms except the Dessert Corps can obtain nectar from here.

From the surface of the lake to the bottom, it is truly packed with jelly, pudding, and gummies.

Nearby, there are creatures like Bisyakit, which can tear apart Apohjus’s tentacles and suck out its fluids, and Penguinfang, which can do the same to a human head, and Sadagumchi, which eats the jelly floating on the surface with its large, swollen beak. And so on. It is the most prosperous and most terrifying place in my ecosystem.

I inspect this place comprehensively.

“Apohjus. Is the restoration going smoothly?”

【Yayayayaaa! My creator! There is no problem at all!】

From noble mtl dot com

I see. It seems that while the number of creatures has taken a significant hit, the species have not.

This is entirely because Shikadoz could not get close to the Nectar Lake.

When he tried to shoot the lake with that damned ray cannon, all the Bisyakits and puddings around rushed in to grind him up. Apohjus even tried to drag him under the Nectar Spring.

However, to reach level 10, the area needs to be twice as large… In other words, it needs to be 100 square kilometers. The production must increase that much.

And that means swallowing up ten lands, and since not all the terrain I consumed is desert, at some point the sunlight will decrease, and this insane productivity will reach its limit.

Then it would mean stagnation for my entire ecosystem.

“The sensible way would be to create a spiritual realm that continuously supplies sunlight and heat. And if we establish a civilization that grows by consuming nectar even now, it could continuously maintain that spiritual realm…”

That’s too complicated and heavily reliant on Sesaisa, so I solve it ecologically.

“Oh. Please.”

Fundamentally, the growth of the Nectar Spring depends entirely on the influx of magic.

And that magic influx is achieved by the magic production of jellies receiving sunlight. Secondly, the influx of magic through the spiritual realm. Thirdly, the influx through [Gel].

“Entry through the gel?”

You know the decomposers and bacteria-like life forms I created. They dissolve dead organisms using the power of sunlight, absorb nutrients, and emit magic.

From the perspective of a god, the magic pressure of the nectar spring, which is increased by the gel, accounts for at least one-third of the total.

“Really…? I can’t see it at all.”

It’s hard to notice. But while I wasn’t looking, these [gels] evolved at an incredible speed, and now I can do more with them.

By using the [gels], we can increase the magic pressure of the entire world, and the increased magic pressure will pour into the nectar spring following the spiritual realm installed by Sesaisa.

“That’s a good idea. So how can we use those slime-like microorganisms?”

Some of the gels have evolved into ‘diseases’ similar to parasites or bacteria. They can’t hunt directly, but they can dissolve corpses, so they decided to produce toxic substances to passively kill organisms.

“Actually, those bacteria and parasites are supposed to come during the disaster phase, but you’re already facing a disaster.”

Ah. First, I’ll modify these toxic and infectious gels a bit, infect the candy with them, and when the candy bursts, the toxins and germs will scatter everywhere. I’ll leave it to the desert forest avatar.

“The next opponent is so pitiful.”

But in fact, these infectious gels are not many in number. Usually, they just parasitize and suck nutrients, and when they die, they suck the corpse and emit magic.

The gels that evolved in a different way became a bit tougher. They form clumps of mycelium like mushrooms or mold, actively spread, eat even the smallest debris, and decompose magic.

Some even burrow into other jellies or gamchis in their clumped state, and if that creature dies for any reason, they immediately start devouring the corpse.

So, looking at it that way…

“Hmm?”

“What’s wrong?”

“Wait a minute… This.”

There’s nothing to touch?

“Pardon?”

No, really, there’s nothing to touch. I was trying to spread the gels all over the world, but they evolved to parasitize gamchis by forming mold-like bodies and spreading widely from there.

In other words, my world has already been completely infected by the gels. I can’t increase the magic efficiency any further. Everything that dies in my ecosystem is completely devoured by these life forms.

“In that case, the only way to increase efficiency is to create a civilization…!”

So, the only way is to massively increase the number of life forms and feed them to the gels? But this isn’t very energy-efficient.

“That’s too much. Really.”

But isn’t the efficiency lower than expected? Feeling that, I checked why the gels weren’t producing much magic compared to their decomposition. There might be a problem.

But during that process, I discovered something really unexpected.

The clumped gels on the corpse wriggled, and some of them sparkled.

“Hmm…?”

How did they evolve like that? No, more importantly, why did they evolve like that?

Upon closer inspection, I found that the [Toppings], the third lifeform I created, were parasitizing the gels that parasitize the puddings. A parasite of a parasite.

The magic power emitted by the gel is consumed by the Topping, which in turn provides the gel with both mobility and luminescence.

Then, the gel becomes visible to other creatures, which eat the glowing gel, naturally get infected, live their lives, die, and are eaten by the gel again.

“It’s an interesting evolution. So, by using magic power, it actually increased its own reproductive ability.”

An unexpected evolution. It’s like the scene where archaea and mitochondria merged to become eukaryotes.

In a creature that emits magic power, a lifeform that absorbs magic power and exhibits mobility coexists. How can this be used…

Suddenly, something flashed through my mind.

“The brain of meat creates ‘flow.’ Mental activity is like that.”

This is what Sesaisa said to another clone a while ago.

But you know, this ‘flow,’ isn’t it all ‘flow’ if magic power moves?

So, the [Topping] eats magic power and moves, making it a lifeform that creates ‘flow’ in the spiritual realm?

“I don’t know exactly right now, but it seems like you’ve come up with an incredibly gruesome idea.”

I used the knowledge understood by the clone who was being diligently educated by Sesaisa.

By creating an artificial flow through divine power, and condensing it through divine power, fixing it so that it does not deviate from the surrounding flow. This is the fundamental principle of spiritual science.

This is done using the [Topping fused with the gel].

The interaction of gels, which have reached the realm of mystery from the material realm, becomes a flow and is fixed by the material called life.

The flow eventually moves the spiritual realm, transforming the pure material realm life into a structure that manipulates the vast flow of the spiritual realm.

And the moment the Toppings fused with the gel, with the help of Clone 4, were laid in the open-pit mine and connected with Creamland and Nectar Spring…

“Hahaha… Bine. You have quite a few points to hand over to me this time, don’t you?”

“Um…”

Sesaisa contributed greatly to Bine’s world.

Because fundamentally, he had to extract the ecological knowledge that Bine possessed.

Instead of calling him over every time to temporarily take care of the world, it was better to extract all the knowledge he had and let him adjust his world on his own.

Bine had a lot of knowledge, but most of it was experiential and skill-based knowledge gained through ‘games,’ and his actual knowledge level didn’t seem that high.

In contrast, as a scholar, I was confident that no matter how unfamiliar something was, I could reach a fairly high level if I set my mind to study it.

Handling the spiritual realm for a while was nothing compared to the ecological knowledge I would receive later… Once I received the knowledge, I wouldn’t have to be involved with this guy for long.

But suddenly, Bine, who was talking with Sesaisa, said something.

“Ah. It’s done.”

“Huh…? What is?”

And then, when I turned my head for a moment, I saw that from both the spiritual realm and the material realm, the spiritual realm named Creamland was wildly writhing and directly connected to the Nectar Spring, without any problems.

It was a sight that far surpassed Sesaisa’s understanding of the connection between the spiritual realm and the spiritual land.

The next moment, the Nectar Spring, which had started to draw in an enormous flow by connecting to Creamland in the sky, overflowed and swallowed the surrounding terrain, which was shocking in itself.

「The level of 《Nectar Spring》 has increased.」

「The world’s 〈Industry〉 score has surpassed 8,579 points and has risen to level 7. You can now choose a new trait.」

「The world’s 〈Mystery〉 score has surpassed 18,016 points and has risen to level 8. You can now choose a new trait.」

「The world’s 〈Faith〉 score has surpassed 8,579 points and has risen to level 7.」

“Oh. The level of Nectar Spring is now 10. It’s a success. Those guys are now [Syrup]. It’s a perfect name since [Gel] and [Topping] are combined.”

“Wait a minute. How on earth… What did you do?! How did you connect the spiritual land and the spiritual realm directly like that?!”

Bean slowly looked at Sesaisa. And said one word.

“Well. It seems like you owe me quite a lot of points.”

“Sigh!”
