The Blue Eyes
Chapter 61 - COMPLICATED PUZZLE
Kris froze at Kevin's question. It seemed that he worked his brain to be able to find an answer to the young scientist's question, but in the end, he grabbed his own hair in frustration and said, "Can I not answer your question and you pretend to believe me? I'm tired of lying to you, Kevin!"
It was like a déjà vu. Kris once tried to trick Kevin like that. He failed back then, but he did the same trick again just now.
The first try was a big failure, and so was the second try. His trick was failed miserably because Kevin just showed an unyielding expression. He didn't have any intentions to back away, and that made Kris groan in frustation.
The scientist finally smirked triumphantly. "Tell me what really happened," he ordered as he crossed his arms over his chest and lifted his chin arrogantly.
Kris sighed and then replied, "Jack came over to your house last night."
Kevin's eyes widened at Kris's answer. "Jack?" He asked in surprise. "Why did he come to my house? Did he bring Blue?"
"If he had brought Blue, I would have taken her and by now Blue would have been here with us," Kris replied. "Jack came because he wanted to eat you. He forcibly broke the front door of your house and had almost eaten you who were fast asleep in your room," the werewolf continued.
Kevin looked really shocked. He had almost been eaten by Jack a while ago, and it turned out that the same werewolf once again tried to eat him last night.
"How come I didn't know that Jack came and going to eat me last night?" He asked while frowning at Kris.
"Ask yourself about that," Kris responded while rolling his eyes. "You were sleeping like a log. Have you ever seen a log suddenly woke up when it sensed danger?"
That was definitely a mock, so Kevin sulked at his lover.
"Didn't you sleep with me last night?" The young scientist asked again after he stopped pouting.
"In the beginning, yes," Kris answered with a hint of guilt in his face. "But, then I went somewhere to meet someone."
Kevin scowled at the werewolf's answer. "Are you having an affair? Even though there hasn't been a day since we dated, but you already tired of me?" He asked with mounting fury.
Kris massaged his temples lightly at Kevin's accusation. "I'm not having an affair! I didn't even get to meet that person because I had a bad feeling about you. I immediately turned back and hurriedly returned to your house. Good thing I came on time," the werewolf explained as if he was a hero, when in fact, Kevin could beat Jack even without his help. But, for the time being Kris tried to hide that fact.
"So, you saved me from Jack again?" The shorter man asked again. "Why didn't you say all this from the start and chose to lie to me?"
"Because I don't want you to be scared. I still remember the first time you were almost devoured by that creature. I don't want you to feel the same fear again."
Kevin was stunned to hear Kris's explanation. His heart was touched to see Kris's sincerity. Even though earlier he was upset because Kris lied to him for the umpteenth time, but now his anger dissolved and was replaced by a feeling of indebtedness to the werewolf.
"Thank you for saving me again. It was the second time you saved me, but I haven't thanked you properly. I remember we had an argument after you saved me for the first time," Kevin showed his gratitude.
There was a tinge of guilt in Kris's face, but Kevin seemed to not notice it. He continued to smile at the taller man.
Kris just sighed and finally returned the smile. Without warning, he pulled Kevin's nape to bring his face closer to him. He then put their foreheads together.
"There are no thanks and apologies between us. There's only the word 'love' between us. Do you agree with me?" Kris asked softly as he continued to stared at Kevin's obsidians deeply.
The overly sweet question inevitably made Kevin blush, but he tried to cover it up by immediately pushing Kris's body away from him. "That doesn't cover up the fact that you cheated last night," he said with a little annoyance.
Ah, the werewolf's new lover apparently hadn't forgotten the fact that the werewolf was planning to have a rendezvous with someone last night.
Kevin was indeed curious. Kris was going to meet someone behind his back, and he had no clue about that someone. He didn't question Kris's faith, but it didn't erase his curiosity.
"Didn't I tell you that I'm not having an affair?" Again, Kris denied his lover's accusation.
"If you really didn't have an affair, then please tell me honestly. Who was the person you were going to meet last night?" Kevin didn't want to give up and still tried to press Kris.
His lover had lied a lot to him, so he couldn't help but wary.
"Don't you remember that you asked me to ask Mrs. Nierling about your power? I complied with that request last night, but you accused me of having an affair. I'm really disappointed in you, Mr. Beischel." The werewolf was now pretending to be angry.
A look of shock was printed on Kevin's handsome face after hearing Kris's statement. "So, have you met Mother Monica?"
To Kevin's surprise, Kris shook his head. "Didn't I say earlier that I haven't had time to see her because I decided to go back to your house? I quickly brought you over here after the incident, and I didn't dare to leave you again. So, how can I meet her?"
Kevin looked disappointed to hear the words of the werewolf. He thought he would soon find the answer to his question, he thought he would soon find out the cause of the weirdness that was happening to his body, but it turned out that his desire for an immediate answer had to be delayed.
Kevin still didn't know why Monica Nierling could get involved in this matter, but he believed that the old lady knew more than him related to this matter.
Kris seemed to notice Kevin's disappoinment. The werewolf then spoke again, "But, I got a chance to call her last night."
It seemed that Kris just lit Kevin's candle of hope that was about to die. Kevin's world was gloom and dark just now, but the sudden rays lightened it up once again. It was shown in the scientist's eyes that suddenly brightened like a pair of stars.
"What did Mother Monica say? Did she know about my power?" The scientist couldn't hide his enthusiast when he asked the question.
Kris smiled before he answered, "She did know about your power, but she didn't tell me the details. She just assured me that your power will not hurt you."
Kris's answered seemed to failed in satisfy Kevin. The light in the scientist's eyes dimmed slightly after he heard the answer. "Just that?" He asked in a weak tone.
The tone made Kris frown. "Yeah. What did you expect?" He asked back while blinking innocently.
Kevin's shoulder sagged as he ducked his head. "Didn't she say anything else?" He asked again without looking at Kris. "I want to know the details about my power, but she only gave me a vague answer. I want to know the origin of my power, but she didn't tell me anything. That's stupid."
The gloominess engulfed Kevin once again. He didn't ask much. He just wanted to know more about the mysterious power within him.
"Kevin," Kris suddenly called out the human's name, but the human was reluctant to look up. Even so, he still continued, "Mrs. Nierling gave me a further explanation about your power, but promise me that you won't ask for more again after this."
Kevin was surprised by Kris's statement, and he hastily lifted his head again. "So, Mother Monica told you more about the power, but you hid it from me just now?" He asked in a bit hurt tone.
Kris sighed frustratingly before he answered, "I hid it because her other answer was ambiguous as well! I was not sure that it would satisfy you, so I didn't tell you about it earlier."
Kevin kept staring at Kris with a flat gaze. "You should have told me about that even though it was ambiguous," he said coldly.
The werewolf looked more and more exhausted after he heard Kevin's icy tone. "I just didn't want to give you a complicated puzzle, Kevin! I was planning to solve the puzzle first before I could give it to you!" He defended himself.
Kevin was a bit stunned. He had always known that his lover always put him as his priority, but he didn't expect that Kris would go to this extent.
Kevin was tired as well, but he still managed to whisper, "Let's solve the puzzle together, Kris."
