The Blue Eyes
Chapter 65 - FAKE PROPHECY
It was almost midnight on the ninth day of the last month of 2038. It was very late at night. Most sentient beings probably were resting their bodies and minds when it was already this late. Except for nocturnal creatures, which might wander for food, other creatures might be sleeping soundly now.
But, that was not the case on a desert island where werewolves congregated with great fanfare. How could it not be festive? Tonight was the night they had been waiting for seventeen years. The night they would gain great power to conquer humans. The night they would get a new leader.
A large bonfire ignited brightly in the middle of the wide field. The werewolves stood around the giant red flames. Old, young, men, women, adults, children. Their number was more than 60, and all of them put on a sparkling expression.
The next boisterous welcome was heard when Jack arrived carrying Blue on his shoulder, who was still tightly bound by chains. They indeed kept Blue in chains until this day.
Blue's hands and feet were cut by the chains, but luckily, Jack was kind enough to treat her wounds every day. Perhaps he was just carrying out Mike's orders, or perhaps it was for other reasons. No one knew what's on Jack's mind.
Jack brought Blue over to Mike, who had been waiting for the two of them to come. The leader continued to smile as he welcomed the two of them.
"How do you feel, Blue? Soon, you will be a part of us and will help us conquer mankind," Mike threw a question to Blue, who was now standing in front of him.
Blue looked at Mike with her eyes full of hate but didn't reply to the werewolf leader's words. It seemed that the girl was in a mixture of fear, anxiety, and anger. Of course, that was the feeling she felt because soon she would officially become a werewolf. The girl was certainly not willing to face that fact.
"Has everyone gathered here?" This time, Mike asked Jack.
"All the werewolves are here. The only one missing is Kris," Jack replied.
Mike's expression suddenly changed when he heard Jack's answer. "He is not a part of us anymore. There's no need to talk about him," the grey-haired man replied coldly.
Blue could clearly see the look of anger and disappointment on Mike's face.
'So, Kris betrayed the werewolves? Did he side with humans? He wanted to protect me?' Blue queried inwardly.
It looked like she made the wrong decision. It seemed that her instincts were wrong too because she had thought that Kris had bad intentions for her. Perhaps she should apologize to Kris later. Ah, did she still have the chance to meet the tall man? Her fate alone was not clear now.
"Has Professor Beischel not arrived yet?"
Jack suddenly asked, and the question made Blue quickly turn her head towards him.
"Professor Beischel? You mean, Professor Beischel who—"
"Who what, Blue?"
Blue's question was interrupted by another question asked by an old man who had just arrived at the place. Oh no! He was the mysterious man who had scared Blue a month ago! He just came with a younger man, who also had been on the island with him before. It seemed that the man was his personal bodyguard or maybe a nanny. The man, who had a birthmark on his temple, painstakingly helped the older man walking as if a nanny guiding a small child.
"You are Professor Beischel?" Blue asked in surprise when the elderly professor arrived in front of her.
"Yes, I'm Joseph Beischel. What an honor that you seem to have heard of my name, Blue."
Blue was speechless after hearing the man's confession. No wonder she felt that his face resembled someone. Of course, it's similar. The two people were father and son! Blue was so shocked that her legs felt so limp and almost collapsed if Jack hadn't grabbed her shoulders.
"Didn't you die from the explosion seventeen years ago?" Blue tried to steel her heart and asked.
"Oh, you also heard the news?" Joseph, the professor, asked back. "There was an explosion during the war seventeen years ago, but I survived."
Blue gritted her teeth to hold back her anger, "Did you deliberately fake your death?" She asked angrily.
A wide grin was formed on the professor's wrinkled face before he answered, "I did all that on purpose for the sake of achieving my goal. I planned it all. The werewolves attack in the laboratory, that explosion, and also my success in creating you. That's all part of my plan."
Blue looked shocked to hear the confession that the professor had just uttered, which turned out to be deliberately faking his own death seventeen years ago. The part that surprised her the most was the 'creating you' part.
But, it seemed that Blue was not the only one who was jolted. Jack also showed the same appalled expression. The other werewolves looked surprised as well. It seemed that only Mike and Joseph's bodyguard looked relaxed.
"What do you mean by your success in creating Blue, Professor?" Jack asked the man curiously.
Joseph was about to explain, but suddenly Mike came forward and said, "Let me explain." He then turned to stare at the other werewolves, who were currently staring at him in confusion, then said, "I apologize to all of you because I lied to you all this time."
The werewolves, who didn't know anything, immediately began to chatter wildly. Jack also waited for the continuation of the leader's explanation.
Blue was no different. She was curious as well. Her instincts told her that many secrets would be revealed tonight.
"Actually, the prophecy about a blue-eyed girl who is destined to be our leader doesn't exist."
Mike's confession was no doubt a very big surprise for the werewolves. What was the meaning of that confession? For seventeen years, they lived according to the prophecy about the blue-eyed girl. They fully believed in the leader and believed that the girl would come to help them conquer mankind.
But, their leader suddenly said something absurd. They were now like little kids who believed in Santa Claus, but suddenly their parents said that the fatty man with white beard and red clothes didn't exist. Of course, they could not believe those words right away.
A grown man from the group of werewolves had the courage to come forward and ask, "What do you mean, Sir?"
Mike sighed and showed a regretful expression. "Seventeen years ago, I made up a story about the prophecy. I never dreamed of meeting the blue girl in my story. There had never been a female werewolf who gave birth to a baby with blue eyes. I was just making up stories," the leader finally confessed.
Again, varied opinions resounded among the werewolves, who were still standing around the big bonfire. Their faces looked distressed and furious at their leader, who turned out to have been playing tricks on them all.
Blue was also shocked. The first time she heard about the prophecy was from Jack some time ago. She did not believe it at first, but as time went on, her mysterious power emerged more and more like the one in the prophecy, so she had no other choice but to believe in the prophecy. But, Mike just revealed the secret behind the existence of the prophecy. Now, she was confused about which one to believe.
"Why did you lie to us, Sir?" This time, it was Jack who asked. He looked closely at the faces of Mike, Joseph, and Joseph's bodyguard, then he added, "It seems that only the three of you know about that."
"I just want all of you to have faith that we can win against humans even if we are outnumbered. If I hadn't made up that prophecy, I'm sure your spirits would have been dashed after we lost the war seventeen years ago."
The werewolves were still looking at Mike with a sullen expression. Whatever the reason was, Mike had been fooling them all for seventeen years. Over the past seventeen years, they had trusted Mike and obeyed Mike's orders, but it turned out that their leaders had abused their trust.
Blue and Jack also stared in skepticism at the werewolf leader. For seventeen years, the man had the heart to lie to his people. Although it had a good purpose, it was still too much.
"Besides, I just lied about the prophecy, but all the processes we are going to go through are the same. Our goal also remains the same to achieve eternal life and unbeatable power."
Mike added his explanation, but he still got no response. The werewolves just stared at him with unchanged gaze.
"So..." Instead of the werewolves, it was Blue who finally made a sound. "If there is no prophecy, then where did my power come from? And, what kind of creature am I?"
Joseph motioned for Mike to step back a little, and Mike complied with the order. He confidently stood up to replace Mike's position earlier. He plastered an obscure smile as he said, "You are a werewolf that I created seventeen years ago."
