The Comprehensive Evolution of American Comics
#213 - Arrested
The Hellfire, now separated into body and head, was even more troublesome than before. The head could fly and was quite fast, constantly harassing with its ranged attacks. The body, in coordination with the head, launched its own attacks. Being of one consciousness, their teamwork was naturally seamless.
In any case, Tony and Thor were being overwhelmed, finding themselves in dire straits.
And Damon, the mastermind behind all this, had long since quietly left. Helpless, having lost most of his Tenergy, he no longer had the ability to fight. Staying on the battlefield was simply too dangerous.
Damon planned to find a place to wait for his Tenergy to recover. Although he wasn't injured, the depletion of his Tenergy was more serious than any injury.
Once his energy recovered, he would settle things with his brother, Karn. In his opinion, killing Karn would not only please Yang Le but also put an end to his past self.
He was now in a life-or-death situation with Karn. Even if he didn't seek out Karn, Karn would find a chance to kill him.
Meanwhile, Karn, whom Damon was so focused on, was staggering down an alley, leaning on his steel fork. To escape, he had deliberately taken several bullets. These bullets wouldn't have been a problem normally, but one bullet had hit his old wound precisely.
That was an injury he had sustained in the previous world while hunting a deity possessing spider totem powers. It had to be said that although these deities were arrogant, the deliciousness of their energy was top-notch. Of course, their strength was also top-notch, and even Karn couldn't help but be hit.
When a person is unlucky, they can choke even on cold water. The bullet had entered the wound caused by the deity's spider leg, specifically on his thigh, causing the wound to burst open, with blood gushing out continuously, making movement difficult.
Helpless, Karn could only tear a strip of cloth from his coat and tie it around the wound, creating a makeshift bandage, barely stopping the bleeding.
Having not eaten for a long time, Karn couldn't waste unnecessary energy and stopped channeling energy into the steel fork, using it as an ordinary crutch.
Karn knew his appearance was unique. Even in his hometown, wearing a metal helmet was an eye-catching behavior. Coupled with angering the local hero forces, he naturally didn't choose the main road but instead took the inconspicuous backstreets.
In addition, S.H.I.E.L.D. had evacuated the nearby crowds. The backstreets, which were already deserted, were now devoid of even drug addicts, which benefited Karn.
Karn had just tried to open a portal to escape this universe, but when he took out the teleporter from his pocket, he found a golden bullet embedded in it, making it impossible to use.
Karn was furious. He raised the teleporter high, intending to smash it on the ground, but after thinking it over, he put it back in his pocket.
"I should be able to get someone to fix it," Karn muttered, leaning on his steel fork, preparing to find a safe place to settle down. It seemed he would have to stay in this universe for a while longer.
Just a few steps out, Karn leaned weakly against a nearby wall. Having not eaten for a long time and losing too much blood, it was already remarkable that Karn had managed to escape. An ordinary creature would have probably fainted long ago.
But even Karn was reaching his limit, mainly due to the prolonged energy deprivation, which greatly reduced his various bodily functions. If it were before, he would have recovered from this injury long ago and definitely wouldn't have allowed the injury to snowball.
"Clang!"
Karn collapsed weakly on the ground, the steel fork falling to the side, his metal-helmeted head hitting the ground, making a sound.
'It's over, am I going to die from blood loss?' Karn thought pessimistically, never expecting that he, who had fought for hundreds of years, would die in such a way, which was fitting for his identity as a butcher.
Sighing, Karn closed his eyes in resignation, preparing to resign himself to fate.
Just before Karn lost consciousness, he vaguely seemed to see a red and blue figure. Before he could see clearly, he passed out.
When Karn woke up again, he was no longer in that dark alley but in a small room.
Karn wanted to get up but found he couldn't move. He was tied to a bed, wearing a straitjacket, and bound by several metal strips of unknown material. He couldn't even move, and his head was fixed, unable to turn. However, his helmet was still on, not removed.
"You're awake?"
A strange voice. Karn didn't recognize the owner of the voice, but it seemed he was the one who had imprisoned him.
"Awake," Karn replied. "Who are you? And where am I?"
Nick Fury stood in the monitoring room, speaking through the intercom, "I should be asking you, who are you? And what is your purpose?"
Standing beside Fury were Iron Man Tony, Thor, Captain America Steve, and Doctor Strange.
"It seems we both have questions," Karn said, immediately proposing.
"How about I exchange information?"
He can communicate. That was Karn's first impression on Fury. If that were the case, Fury could undoubtedly save a lot of trouble.
Fury said, "You can ask questions, and I will answer as I see fit."
"Alright, I'm at your mercy," Karn agreed, helpless in his situation.
"Now answer my question, who are you, and what is your purpose?" Fury repeated.
"My name is Karn," Karn said slowly.
The newest novel is first published at six nine book吧!
"I come from another universe and am a member of the Inheritors family. My purpose here is to hunt Spider-Man."
If what Damon said was true, then the Inheritors family was finished. Karn naturally wouldn't keep secrets for the family, as he had no sense of belonging to that family anyway.
Another universe? Fury and the other Avengers members' expressions changed. Fury suppressed unnecessary emotions and continued to ask, "Why hunt Spider-Man?"
"Because of hunger." Karn's answer confused everyone. Before Fury could ask again, Karn spoke first.
"After asking so much, it's my turn now. Who are you?"
"S.H.I.E.L.D.," Fury replied. In this universe, S.H.I.E.L.D. was still well-known. In his opinion, there was no harm in saying it.
"S.H.I.E.L.D.? I see. No wonder," Karn said, slumping on the bed after hearing this.
That name was enough. There was no need to ask anything else. After all, Karn had traveled through countless universes and had seen many S.H.I.E.L.D.s.
Karn's attitude aroused Fury's curiosity, and he asked, "It seems you know a lot about us."
"Of course, I've even destroyed you, but in other universes," Karn replied.
"Keep asking. I can tell you anything I know, but I have a condition."
"What condition?" An unusual glint flashed in Fury's remaining eye.
"Save my life," Karn said slowly.
