#27 - Gwen doesn't want to be Spider-Man

“Spider-Man?” Gwen frowned, looking at the emblem before her. “Sounds like a superhero codename.”

“It is indeed a codename. In the multiverse, there are many beings with experiences similar to yours, Gwen. They've also gained spider abilities, and relying on these superpowers, most of them have become superheroes.”

Yang Le pinched a corner of each spider totem with his hands, then pulled, stretching the spider totems out like a string of paper-cut figures.

“My head's a bit of a mess.” Gwen couldn't help but rub her head. “You're suddenly talking about parallel universes, superheroes, and stuff. I'm just an ordinary high school student; I never thought about becoming a superhero.”

“That's normal, Gwen.” Yang Le put away the spider totems and walked up to Gwen, comforting her.

“No one is forcing you to become anything. I'm not telling you this to make you bear any responsibility; I just want you to understand your abilities.”

“I just want to go back to being normal.” Gwen looked up at Yang Le with hope.

“Do you have a way, Harby?”

“Regarding that, I really do have a solution.” Yang Le raised his left hand, once again displaying the Omnitrix to Gwen.

“This watch-like thing is called the Omnitrix. Don't let its unassuming appearance fool you; it's the most powerful invention in this world.”

“This is what lets you turn into Four Arms… uh… Four Arms Supreme?” Gwen looked curiously at the Omnitrix on Yang Le's left hand. “Can it solve my problem?”

Yang Le nodded: “The Omnitrix's main ability is to scan and store the DNA of intelligent species and allow me to transform into them. But it also has a secondary ability: to repair damaged DNA.”

In this regard, the Omnitrix is indeed the nemesis of those mutants in Marvel. No matter what ability you have, as long as you're a mutant, I can remove it. So, Yang Le is least afraid of those world-destroying mutants.

“So, it can turn me back into a normal person?” Gwen seemed a little eager, momentarily standing very close to Yang Le. “Then what are we waiting for? Let's start.”

“Don't rush, Gwen. I'm not going to run away.” Yang Le leaned his upper body back, the two were too close, he could even see Gwen's eyelashes. Yang Le reached out and held the excited Gwen, speaking seriously.

“But I need to make sure, Gwen, do you really want to lose your superpowers? You need to know, once the Omnitrix repairs your genes, your superpowers will never come back.”

Asked by Yang Le, Gwen also calmed down to think. She had only thought about the inconveniences brought about by the ability before, but thinking about it carefully, if used properly, this power could bring her a lot of convenience, at least her strength had indeed increased a lot.

“I think having more abilities is always a good thing. There's a Chinese saying that it's good to have more skills than you need, this stuff is like money, you never have too much.” Yang Le persuaded, looking at the pensive Gwen.

“Anyway, I'm always here. If you don't want it anymore, you can come find me.”

“I think you make a lot of sense.” Gwen also agreed with Yang Le's point of view, and at the same time, looked at her hand with a worried face.

“I just need to be more careful in the future. I almost tore down my house this morning. I don't even want to think about what would happen if I used this power on people.”

“Regarding this, I also have a solution.” Yang Le took out something from his pocket like Doraemon and threw it to Gwen.

Gwen caught it and saw that it was a black smart bracelet.

“This is the Super Bracelet, with it you can defeat any sun monster.” Yang Le said seriously things Gwen didn't understand.

Seeing Gwen looking at him with eyes of concern for the mentally challenged, Yang Le cleared his throat and pretended that nothing had happened and continued to introduce.

“This bracelet has a power limiting function. If you wear it, you don't have to worry about beating people into a pulp in your daily life.”

“But this color is too ugly.” Gwen looked at the black bracelet in her hand with disgust. “Pure black doesn't suit me at all.”

“You can adjust the color in the settings. The bracelet is black by default.” Yang Le took the bracelet, opened the settings, brought up the color palette, and turned the bracelet white.

“I like this function.” Gwen looked happily at the white bracelet and put it on her wrist with satisfaction. As soon as the bracelet was put on, it lit up with white light showing circuit board patterns, and then adjusted to fit Gwen's wrist size.

“You can set your own power output standards. Considering convenience in life, I've set it to the standard of an average adult male.”

After hearing Yang Le's words, Gwen tried to lift the table next to her. She was surprised to find that the table, which she could easily lift with one hand before, now required two hands to lift with difficulty.

“But Gwen, although this bracelet helps, I think you still need to learn to control your abilities yourself, otherwise it would be terrible if the bracelet breaks one day.” Yang Le reminded from the side.

“You're always right, Harby.” Gwen nodded, then turned her head to look at Yang Le slyly. “So you'll help me, right?”

“Of course, after all, I don't want to become Harby-chan.” Yang Le imagined the scene and couldn't help but shudder.

“You're saying something attacked them?” S.H.I.E.L.D. Director Peggy Carter stared at the agent reporting to her with her remaining eye.

“Yes, Director.” The agent still seemed to have lingering fears. “I only felt a chill and then my head was severely injured and I passed out. My other two companions were the same.”

“Director, actually about ten minutes before they were attacked, Lisa and I also felt a chill, but we were not attacked.” Melinda, standing on the side, also told her experience.

“I suspect it's because the other party saw too many of us and didn't attack.”

“Did you see the attacker?” Peggy asked.

“No.” Melinda shook her head. “Our entire team did not find the attacker. We suspect the attacker has some long-range attack method, or simply has invisibility.”

“Can you guess the attacker's purpose?”

“The purpose is not yet clear, but investigators have stated that some exhibits and equipment from the expo are missing.”

Melinda handed the file in her hand to Peggy, who frowned after skimming through it.

“The missing things are miscellaneous and basically have no connection to each other, and most of them are already scrapped waste products. Just looking at this report, you can't tell what the other party's purpose is.” Melinda seemed a little frustrated, she especially hated this feeling of not knowing where to exert her strength.

“Calm down, Mel. We can't rule out the possibility that the other party took a bunch of unrelated things to cover up their real purpose.” Peggy returned the report to Melinda.

“Let the intelligence department investigate again, don't let go of any clues.”
