#276 - Peace comes with a strong fist
As mentioned before, due to the oppression from the vast majority of ordinary people, many mutants have turned to crime. Those with weaker abilities mostly engage in petty theft where their powers come in handy.
Those with stronger abilities are naturally bolder and engage in more serious crimes, including but not limited to robbery, burglary, bank heists, and even working as assassins.
There's no way around it. The discrimination against mutants is intensifying. Once their identity is exposed, it's basically impossible for them to find normal jobs. Take this free country, for example. In some extreme states, there are extreme laws that directly revoke a mutant's citizenship upon discovery. And after the 616 event, several more states have put this law on the agenda.
Without social identity, they naturally can't do normal jobs. Mutants who are driven to desperation can only do abnormal jobs. Over time, labels like dangerous, criminal, and evil are etched onto mutants. It's as if what mutants have extra in their bodies isn't the X-gene, but some kind of demon gene.
The general public is also willing to attribute many inexplicable things to mutants. Even the Little Moustache Man (Hitler) has been said to be a mutant.
So even if some mutants are persecuted, no one will stand up for them. They will only pray for the mutants to die quickly. Even in less extreme states, the law basically doesn't protect mutants. The police will immediately treat mutants as criminals, even if they are the victims. Lawyers are unwilling to defend mutants, and even court-appointed lawyers will only do a perfunctory job because defending mutants will ruin their careers.
So, faced with this kind of violence in the recording, Magneto and the others naturally wouldn't choose to call the police. If they did, the police might even say on the phone: 'Serves them right, let's pop the champagne!'
In this environment, even superheroes are unwilling to speak out for mutants. This is how society is. No one wants to be a rebel. The last person who spoke out for mutants has already lost their entire family tree.
Only mutants will help mutants. This is the situation for mutants in this universe, and it's the lesson they've learned over the past half-century. It probably won't change in the future.
Of course, we can't be too absolute.
Yang Le stood aside, quietly watching the X-Men argue.
"Alright, Remy, Scott," Magneto interrupted their argument. "Every minute and every second we waste here will turn into a sharp knife piercing the bodies of our compatriots."
Seeing this, the two stopped arguing. They really didn't have time to waste.
"This video was taken by Mystique," Magneto explained. "Originally, I just heard about it and sent her to check the source of the clues because I was worried. After months of lurking, I didn't expect her to actually find it. Before this, I always thought it was a fake message, but now it seems it would have been better if it were a fake message."
Magneto's tone was calm. If it weren't for a metal ornament on his desk being twisted into a more abstract piece of art, Yang Le would have thought he wasn't angry.
Yang Le once thought that the reason why Magneto in this universe was so kind was because he evenly distributed his temper to every mutant. Now it seems that the old man is still hot-tempered, but he has too much to bear and has to change his nature.
"Mystique has sent the coordinates of the laboratory. It's located in the country, but it may have been chosen to be far from the city for the convenience of management, but this also facilitates our actions."
Hank pressed the button on the remote control, and a map marked with coordinates appeared on it. Obviously, that was their target.
"The action is scheduled for tonight," Magneto instructed everyone. "Remember, your actions must be fast. It's okay to be ruthless when necessary."
"But Headmaster," Scott was about to say something, but was interrupted by Magneto.
"I know your concerns, Scott, but don't worry. Just like you said, we are indeed afraid of a scorched-earth scenario, which is why those ordinary people dare to touch the minefield, but they also don't want to see it. So we don't have to blindly tolerate it."
Magneto said, patted Scott on the shoulder, and then swept his eyes over everyone in the room, and said.
"Besides, I'll take responsibility for anything that happens. You guys can let go and do it. Peace, peace, only when your fist is hard can you get peace. Otherwise, there will only be two endings: destruction and enslavement."
Scott was thoughtful after hearing this. Only when Qin held his hand did Scott react and say, "I understand, Headmaster."
"It's good that you understand. Scott, you're good in every way, but sometimes you're too rigid," Magneto waved his hand. "Go back and rest. Afternoon classes are canceled. The action is scheduled for after dinner tonight. We'll meet on the other side of the island then."
Scott and Qin left hand in hand, while Beast stayed to plan the next steps with Magneto. The remaining Gambit naturally left with Yang Le. Looking at the talkative Gambit beside him, and then looking at the loving Scott and Qin in front, Yang Le inexplicably missed Gwen today.
Time passed quickly, and Yang Le, led by Gambit, arrived at the meeting point. It was a forest. He had heard Qian Huan say that it seemed to have been dug up by Magneto to cultivate some animals. Because the area was relatively large, he was afraid that everyone would get lost, so he had always forbidden everyone from going deep into it.
Although the children were naughty, they were all relatively mature and naturally wouldn't do things they were told not to do. So this forest was also the least visited place on the island, but now it seems that there may be other secrets here.
Under Gambit's leadership, the two twisted and turned to a clearing. In the center of the clearing was a strangely shaped aircraft, and Beast was checking its condition next to it.
Yang Le looked at the aircraft and was in a daze. This aircraft was already very similar to the X-Men's dedicated vehicle in the comics—the X-Jet.
"How is it?" Gambit raised his head, looking proud. "This is the result of all our hard work."
"Amazing," Yang Le nodded. It was indeed admirable to be able to create an aircraft in such a remote place.
"Actually, most of it was done by Hank," Magneto walked over from the side. "I can only move materials."
"I'm responsible for welding," Scott said with a smile.
"Remy and I work together," Qin stood next to Scott. "He's responsible for getting the materials, and I'm responsible for destroying the traces."
Good! What a professional team! Yang Le couldn't help but applaud in his heart.
"It's our means of transportation for today's action," Hank finished the final adjustments and walked over. "Trust me, this guy is definitely trustworthy."
