The Comprehensive Evolution of American Comics
#280 - Storm
“Is there anything unusual?” Gambit was the first to notice Yang Le's abnormality and walked over to ask him.
Yang Le pointed to the deepest cell and said, “That cell looks a bit different.”
“The most powerful mutant in this prison is held there.”
A voice that Yang Le found unfamiliar, but Gambit was very familiar with, came over. The two turned around and saw Jean supporting a red-haired woman with blue skin and a lithe figure. It was Mystique, Raven Darkholme, who had been imprisoned after her failed infiltration.
“You're awake, Raven,” Gambit said happily. “How do you feel? Are you hurt anywhere? What did they do to you?”
“I'm fine.” Mystique smirked, revealing a charming smile. “When I was first discovered, those guys were furious and wanted to torture me with a taser, but I changed the structure of my body to minimize the damage. Those shocks were even less stimulating than this fruit in my mouth.”
“That's good.” Gambit breathed a sigh of relief. “Oh, right, you haven't met him yet, have you? This is Swampfire.”
“You mentioned him in the communications.” Mystique perked up, but it seemed her condition wasn't as good as she claimed. “I'm sorry, I'm really not in a state to have a good conversation with you right now.”
“It doesn't matter.” Yang Le shook his head to indicate he understood. “By the way, what's the deal with that strongest mutant you mentioned earlier?”
Mystique explained, “It's exactly what it sounds like. Although I don't know how they caught her, according to what those scumbags said, the mutant locked in that cell is even said to have power comparable to the Professor.”
“That's impossible!” Scott shook his head, obviously not believing what Mystique said. It was unclear whether he didn't believe someone could be as strong as Magneto, or didn't believe that someone with that kind of power could be captured.
“That's why I said I don't know how they did it,” Mystique shrugged. “But I only heard it, because I never had time to get close to that cell, so I don't know if the information is true.”
“Why don't we just open it and see?” Gambit didn't seem to care. “Talking so much is not as good as doing it.”
Everyone agreed with Gambit's suggestion. Seeing is believing, and discussing it more is not as good as opening the door.
“Let me do it.” Mystique broke free from Jean's support and passed between Yang Le and Gambit. In the process of moving forward, Mystique's appearance was changing. Finally, when Mystique stopped in front of the door, she had transformed into a strange man in a white coat and gold-rimmed glasses, looking like a standard hypocritical scoundrel.
“This man has the highest authority for this cell,” Mystique introduced before pressing his hand on the fingerprint lock on the side. With a 'ding' sound, the heavy metal door slowly opened.
Yang Le poked his head out and saw the appearance of the cell's occupant: a white hospital gown, dark skin, and messy silver hair, instantly giving Yang Le a vision of a very famous X-Men member.
‘Storm?’ Yang Le guessed in his heart. To confirm his guess, Yang Le stepped past Mystique and quickly entered the cell, turning over the woman who was lying unconscious on the ground and picking her up.
Looking at that beautiful face, Yang Le was still not sure if the other party was Storm. After all, Storm didn't have any particularly significant features. Silver hair was rare, but it wasn't nonexistent.
In the other party's unconscious state, Yang Le really had no way to 100% confirm the other party's identity. No, maybe there was a way to confirm it, and the answer was in this cell.
Storm had a very serious case of claustrophobia. If she was locked in a dark, narrow environment, she would likely lose her fighting ability due to extreme fear, and of course, she might also go berserk. Which phenomenon occurred would depend on luck.
Yang Le measured the cell. Compared to other cells, it was indeed much smaller. Coupled with the opaque environment after closing the cell door, this unconscious woman might really be Storm.
“She's not in a good condition.” Jean approached at this time. “Even in deep sleep, her mind is in fear. I really don't know what kind of inhuman treatment she suffered before.”
Jean's words basically confirmed Yang Le's previous guess. It seemed that the woman in Yang Le's arms was really Storm—Ororo Munroe.
Looking at Storm's messy but thick silver hair, Yang Le breathed a sigh of relief in his heart. Fortunately, it wasn't the abstract rooster comb from the comics, but more like the look in 'X-Men '97'.
Speaking of which, although I don't want to admit it, the female characters in 'X-Men '97' captivated me as a child and can be considered my gateway anime.
“Our compatriots should all be here.” Scott walked to Scott after counting the number of people. “Notify Hank, let's evacuate as soon as possible. There are still surveillance cameras here. They should have discovered us long ago, but they are afraid to break with the Professor.”
“We should indeed leave.” Yang Le agreed. “If these hypnotic pollens are inhaled for more than ten minutes, these people may suffer brain death. Even those of you with neutralizing fruits cannot stay in this environment for long.”
“These people deserve it!” Mystique changed back to her original appearance, saying bitterly, her hideous appearance ruining her beautiful face. “Such a death is simply a bargain for them!”
“But our compatriots shouldn't suffer with them.” Jean put her hand on Mystique's body, comforting the latter. “Let's leave as soon as possible, there's no need to waste time on these people.”
Mystique gritted her silver teeth and said angrily, “Okay!”

“Then let me transport these compatriots.” Yang Le stretched out a few vines from his body and wrapped the unconscious mutants around himself.
Some people might ignore Swampfire's terrifying power because of his less-than-sturdy figure and strange abilities. Swampfire's title of all-around warrior is not for nothing.
Ignoring the settings, just looking at the performance, Swampfire also has many heaven-defying performances in the original drama, pushing down buildings tens of meters high, pulling himself back from the spirit world black hole. These things that ordinary power-type heroes may not be able to do, perfectly reproduce the terrifying power of plants in nature.
“I find I like you more and more, brother.” Gambit poked Yang Le with his arm.
“Your nose is a little dirty, Remy,” Scott teased. (Note 1)
Scott laughed and cursed, “Go to hell!”
Faced with the frolicking of several men, Jean and Raven could only shake their heads helplessly. Boys never grow up, it seems that it is not a pseudo-proposition.
The main story is not over. I'll just say it clearly. It's actually because I'm greedy for the abilities of those aliens from DC that I wrote the extra chapters. After all, Swampfire's Omnitrix is connected between the alternate versions. Think about it, the Marvel universe has no Kryptonite, a Superman without Kryptonite, and a Martian Manhunter who is not afraid of fire. Aren't these more interesting than those abstract aliens from Marvel?
Explanation: Dirty nose is a euphemistic way of saying gay in Europe and America, roughly meaning that it looks a bit gay.
