#284 - The Flash: He's still chasing me, damn
On the enthusiastic recommendation of the psychologist, Yang Le finally chose the Superman doll. There was no particular reason, except that he thought its cheerful smile was better than the gloomy-faced black-clad figure next to it.
Oh right, the psychologist seemed to call him… Batman, yes, that was the name.
"Thank you, doctor, I feel much better." Yang Le clutched the doll in his hand. In truth, he didn't know if he felt better; he just glanced at his watch and realized his funds couldn't support another session.
Yang Le tidied his clothes and prepared to leave the consultation room, comforting himself that even if the treatment's effectiveness was questionable, at least he got a souvenir, so it wasn't a complete loss.
"Mr. Yang Le."
Just as Yang Le turned the doorknob to leave, the psychologist behind him called out. Yang Le turned back to find the psychologist standing behind him.
"Is there something wrong?" Yang Le asked, puzzled.
The psychologist said, "It's clear that my treatment hasn't been very helpful to you. If your condition is severe, I recommend you go to Gotham."
"Gotham…" Yang Le murmured. He didn't know much about that place, only hearing about the city in Old Huang's fragmented words. "I heard it's a place that eats people without spitting out bones?"
"In fact, it's even worse." The doctor took out a handkerchief and wiped the sweat that had inexplicably appeared on his forehead. "Gotham, the city of sin, at least 70% of the people there are crazy."
The doctor put the handkerchief back in his pocket, took a deep breath, and said, "But because of this, Gotham's psychologists are the best in the world, of course, I mean those who haven't gone mad yet."
"Thank you, I'll consider it." Yang Le nodded to show he understood, then opened the door and walked out without lingering.
As for the psychologist's suggestion, Yang Le had long forgotten it. He was joking; Old Huang's real nephew went to Gotham and hasn't been heard from in months. He, the substitute, didn't want to follow in his footsteps.
Squeezing the Superman doll in his hand, Yang Le stuffed it into his coat pocket. Although it was a souvenir from the doctor, it was still a bit embarrassing for a grown man to carry a doll.
After seeing the psychologist, Yang Le finished all his tasks for the day. Looking at the time, it was only two in the afternoon. Not counting the doctors' lunch break, Yang Le's appointment only took an hour, which was the limit of Yang Le's financial capabilities.
Rubbing his empty stomach, Yang Le didn't even dare to have lunch to avoid missing the appointment, rushing over as soon as he got off work.
'It seems necessary to replenish some energy before going home.' Yang Le thought to himself. Although it was an unnecessary expense, after a long period of mental torment, Yang Le felt it necessary to consume some junk food.
Anyway, he would only hear the snoring of those working the night shift when he got home. Yang Le decided to wander around outside.
'I should probably get a hot dog first.'
"Flash."
A deep, powerful voice, accompanied by a cold gaze like liquid nitrogen, shot at Barry, causing him to shiver.
"Oh, what?" Barry came back to his senses, realizing everyone was looking at him. In an attosecond, Barry Allen knew his absent-mindedness had been exposed.
"Oh, it's Batman? I thought the Watchtower's heating was broken." Barry scratched his head awkwardly.
"Pfft!" Clark covered his mouth, but couldn't stop a super laugh from escaping. As expected, the liquid nitrogen gaze shifted to him the next moment.
"Cough!" Clark cleared his throat. "Sorry, I just thought of little Krypto."
"You're really bad at lying, Clark." Diana shook her head with a light laugh. Actually, she was amused too, but Superman laughed before she did.
"At least I'm better than Barry." Cyborg Victor chuckled. "The Watchtower's temperature control system is connected to me, I can tell you definitively that it's not broken."
Barry could only continue to smile sheepishly. Seeing him like this, the Justice League members laughed, except for one person.
"Cough cough." Just a light cough silenced the Justice League members. He was probably the only one in the Justice League who could do that.
"How much of the previous meeting did you hear, Flash?" Batman asked Barry after no one spoke.
"Um, it seemed to be about our sidekicks?" Barry asked tentatively.
Batman shook his head helplessly and said, "Looks like you only heard the beginning."
"I'm sorry." Barry immediately admitted his mistake, while Green Lantern Hal, sitting next to him, frowned.
"What's wrong, Barry? I've noticed you've been spacing out a lot lately, which isn't like you."
Faced with his best friend's question, Barry sighed and said, "I don't know what's going on, but I've definitely been out of it lately. It's not just Flash; it's the same with Barry Allen. My life has been significantly affected."
The newest novels are first published at Six/Nine/Book/Bar!
"Did something happen?" Superman crossed his arms. In his opinion, Barry was eccentric but definitely not unreliable.
Everyone's eyes focused on him again. Barry thought for a moment and said, "I'm not really sure, but I've been feeling uncomfortable when I run lately, like something's chasing me."
As soon as Barry said this, the expressions of all the Justice League members changed. Anything related to the Flash was usually not a small matter.
"If something can chase the Flash, it's definitely not an ordinary speedster." Hal analyzed. "Should we list all the speedsters first and then figure out a solution? Just saying, I suspect Reverse-Flash the most."
Superman didn't reply immediately, but looked at his best partner, asking, "Batman, what do you think about this?"
"I have a different opinion." Batman cast a disapproving look at Hal. "Flash, how long has this state lasted?"
"About… three or four months?" Barry recalled before saying uncertainly.
"Reverse-Flash couldn't possibly fail to catch up with the Flash, and he was defeated by the Flash once last month." Batman pulled up a holographic projection, showing the Flash defeating Reverse-Flash.
"If he had any schemes or tricks, he would have used them last month. There's no need to drag it out for so long. Reverse-Flash isn't a patient guy, especially when it comes to targeting the Flash."
Barry nodded after listening to Batman's analysis, but Hal was a little unhappy and said sarcastically.
"Then please think of a solution, world's greatest detective."
