#296 - Over me, Wally
"Ready, Yang Le?"
Superman's concerned voice came through the headset, his gentle yet powerful tone offering Yang Le considerable comfort.
"I'm ready here," Yang Le took several deep breaths, trying to banish the tension and fear from his heart, his gaze slowly shifting to the distance, where Flash and Kid Flash were standing.
Flash looked much thinner than before, clearly not fully recovered, but he still stood tall in front of Kid Flash, talking incessantly, probably giving him instructions.
"Got it, Wally?"
Faced with Barry's question, Wally's initially nervous heart was replaced with impatience, after all, Barry had asked this question several times.
"I got it," Wally rolled his eyes secretly. "You lead, I chase, and when I reach a certain speed, you drop out, like a windbreaker in a marathon."
That's right, this was Barry's plan. Barry knew his current physical condition well. Although he didn't know exactly how fast he needed to run to summon the blue shadow, he certainly couldn't achieve it in his current state.
The source of this plan was Barry's previous chase with the blue shadow. In that chase, Barry's speed broke through his previous limits under the blue shadow's lead, so Barry speculated that Wally should also be able to break through his limits under his lead.
In fact, there was no need for Barry to be so anxious. He could have waited until he recovered from his injuries and run himself. Batman and the others also advised him to do so, but Barry felt that this was a rare opportunity.
When Barry was in the hospital bed, he slowed down and thought for once. Wally had been growing up under his care. The number of times Wally had completed tasks independently was few and far between, and most of them were tasks with low levels of danger, which led to Wally's slow growth.
Moreover, Barry had different feelings after this injury. Barry suddenly realized that death was so close to him. Superheroes were always very dangerous, but years of fighting crime had made him subconsciously ignore this point.
What if he died in a mission someday, and Wally hadn't grown up yet? What if the Justice League didn't have a speedster who could stand alone?
Barry knew that he should let go. A fledgling bird staying under its parents' wings might even forget how to fly. This was a good opportunity, because of the uncertainty of the enemy, almost more than half of the Justice League were nearby, and they would appear from all directions as soon as there were variables.
So although the enemy was very dangerous, Wally's safety could also be guaranteed. There were so many heroes present that they wouldn't fail to save a Kid Flash as long as Wally didn't act foolishly.
"Remember, I may drop out at any time, so you must be prepared for the worst," Barry still wasn't at ease and repeatedly told Wally, who was too lazy to roll his eyes this time.
Barry, who was experiencing the feelings of a parent in advance, shook his head helplessly and turned to make the final preparations, but heard Wally's voice from behind.
"I know, be careful not to run yourself apart, you look like a stick insect now."
"I will," Barry's mouth turned up slightly, feeling lighter.
"We're ready here, Batman."
"Roger, I'll count down in a moment, all units be ready," Batman tapped his gauntlet, confirming the time.
"Roger!"
Yang Le continued to take deep breaths, not only because of the possible imminent danger, but also because of his mysterious past.
"3."
Barry lowered his body slightly, assuming a ready posture, as did Wally behind him.
"2."
The members of the Justice League had a clear division of labor. Those who could keep up with the speed of the Flashes focused their attention on Barry and Wally, while the rest watched Yang Le, in case of an accident.
"1."
As soon as Batman finished speaking, Barry had disappeared from the spot, and Wally was slightly surprised, then disappeared as well. The speedsters began to run, and all they had to do now was wait quietly.
Following behind Barry, Wally couldn't help but complain in his heart, because in his opinion, Barry didn't look like someone who had just climbed out of bed. This speed was almost the same as before his injury, and Wally was struggling to keep up.
Barry ran forward desperately. Wally was actually wrong. If it was before his injury, he could have spared time to check Wally's condition, but at this time, Barry didn't have that spare energy at all.
And his breathing rhythm was also very bad. After all, his body had not fully recovered. Even if his spirit was still firm, his body was already protesting to him. They were telling Barry that he had to stop now.
But he had only run half the Earth, and Barry's speed had not increased yet. If he retreated at this time, Wally would definitely not be able to reach the speed to summon the blue shadow on his own.
Gritting his teeth, Barry ignored his body's protests and increased his speed again, and more golden electricity flowed out of him and passed to Wally behind him.
At this time, Wally behind him was also very uncomfortable. Being able to keep up with Barry's speed had already taken all his energy, and he had no mind to pay attention to other things.
But even just thinking about it, Wally could know that Barry's condition must be very bad now, but Wally wouldn't say anything to stop, he knew that would make all of Barry's previous efforts in vain.
Finally, after the third lap around the Earth, that is, one second later, a large amount of golden electricity also began to appear on Wally's body, and the distance between him and Barry was constantly decreasing, gradually becoming only two positions apart.
Feeling the pressure from behind, Barry smiled, he knew Wally had done it, he had known Wally could do it, he never doubted it.
Now there was only one thing Barry needed to do, and that was to make way, and the next road was up to Wally himself.
Looking at the figure that made way for him, the meaning was self-evident, Wally's mouth turned up, he knew he could do it now.
Without a trace of hesitation, Wally increased his speed and surpassed Barry, running forward alone. Looking at Wally running past him, Barry suddenly felt a sense of relief.
At this time, Wally, who had surpassed Barry, felt the feeling of being chased that Barry had been telling him about these months. His eyes narrowed, and Wally knew the main character was coming.
"This is Superman," Clark floated a thousand meters above the ground, his eyes fixed on Wally.
"I see it, the blue shadow has appeared again."
