#33 - George's Entrustment
After Yang Le said that, the ward was so quiet you could hear a pin drop.
The Parkers tacitly began cleaning the ward, and Peter stopped dozing off, his eyes darting back and forth between Yang Le and Gwen.
"You're being too direct!" Gwen whispered to Yang Le, giving him a punch that was unseen by others, and to be honest, it hurt a bit.
This was what they had discussed on the way back, not only to avoid involving the Parkers but also to facilitate the investigation plan later.
After punching Yang Le, Gwen immediately put on a smiling face and explained.
"Dad, Habby doesn't really mean that…"
"I agree."
"Uh? Dad, what did you say?"
"I said, I agree!" George gritted his teeth, staring at Yang Le with a tense face.
"Okay~ I thought I'd have to do a lot of talking." Gwen shrugged, muttering softly, "I feel a little complicated right now."
"Yes, I agree. Now, Gwen, you should go back and pack your luggage. Don't tell me you don't need to pack and can move in directly." George's face became increasingly ugly, and by the end, he seemed like a different person.
"Of course not!" Gwen quickly waved her hands, glancing at Yang Le, who was secretly laughing, and stomped on his foot in exasperation.
"Ouch!" Yang Le cried out, and seeing the confused looks from others, he quickly explained.
"I mean, ouch, of course, of course!"
Yang Le gave himself a thumbs up in his mind for his quick wit and continued, "Please forgive me, a Chinese person, for having a bit of an accent when speaking English."
'The tables have turned.' Yang Le thought helplessly, looking at Gwen, who was secretly laughing.
After the playful moments, Gwen went back with the Parkers to pack her luggage, while Yang Le, who was preparing to leave with them, was stopped by George.
"I just have some things about ninjas to ask Habby. You guys go ahead, it won't take long."
Under Gwen's worried gaze, Yang Le stayed behind, and Peter secretly gave Yang Le a gesture of encouragement before leaving.
After everyone left, the ward became silent again. In the awkward atmosphere, Yang Le wanted to start a conversation, but unexpectedly, George spoke first.
"Listen, kid, although I agreed, don't you dare do anything out of line, you don't want to know the consequences." George warned sternly at first, but then his tone changed and he said stiffly.
"When Gwen turns 17, I won't stop you."
"Uh, Uncle George, Gwen and I aren't really…"
Yang Le was about to explain when George interrupted him.
"I know what Gwen is thinking. I've seen that look in Helen's eyes before." George's eyes flickered, as if recalling the past.
"I couldn't protect Helen, and I almost lost Gwen. I'm a failure."
George sighed, looked up, his face haggard, and his straight back also bent, as if he had aged a lot in an instant. He嘱咐ed Yang Le in a voice with a hint of request.
"Promise me, Habby, protect her."
Yang Le looked at the dejected father in front of him and solemnly replied.
"I will."
---Separation Line---
"So, what exactly did you and my dad talk about?" Gwen looked at Yang Le suspiciously. They were now on their way to Yang Le's house. Just like George said, it didn't take long. Gwen had just finished packing when Yang Le came back.
"Nothing." Yang Le looked as usual.
Gwen raised her eyebrows slightly. The more normal Yang Le acted, the more suspicious she became, but she knew that she couldn't get anything out of Yang Le, so she could only suppress her doubts and prepare to bypass the Maginot Line (referring to Yang Le) and attack Paris directly (referring to George).
During the conversation between Yang Le and Gwen, the two finally arrived at Yang Le's house.
"That guest room is yours." Yang Le took out two keys from his pocket. "This is the room key, and there's a spare. I'm giving you both."
"Thank you." Gwen smiled and took the keys. "Don't mind if I decorate the room a bit, right?"
"Of course!" Yang Le deliberately imitated the strange accent he made after being stepped on by Gwen in the ward.
Gwen rolled her eyes at Yang Le, turned around, and walked towards the guest room with her suitcase.
Seeing Gwen turn around, Yang Le childishly made a face, but as soon as he finished making the face, he found Gwen looking at him like he was an idiot.
"Uh, you're done packing so quickly?"
"Those things can be packed anytime. What's most important now is the matter of those ninjas."
"Cough cough! Follow me." Yang Le coughed and gestured for Gwen to follow.
"Boys." Gwen shrugged, following Yang Le with a helpless expression.
Yang Le led Gwen to the study. The study was simply decorated, with only a bookshelf against the wall, a set of tables and chairs, and a computer.
"Wait a minute, you're not going to do that old movie thing, are you?" Gwen asked, seeing Yang Le walking towards the bookshelf.
"Like, you pull out a book, but it's actually a combination lock, and then you enter the password and a secret room appears with a rumbling sound."
"And then there's a lot of high-tech equipment inside?" Yang Le said as he pulled out a book. "Congratulations, Miss 007, you guessed it."
"But we're going to be a little cooler than that."
As soon as Yang Le finished speaking, the book in his hand began to deform. Yang Le let go of the book, and finally, to Gwen's stunned surprise, the book turned into a door emitting white light.
"Magic?" Gwen asked.
"Science!" Yang Le replied.
Yang Le took the lead and walked into the door, and Gwen quickly followed. As soon as she passed through the door, Gwen was stunned.
"Uh, it's a bit more plain than I thought."
Gwen's tone was a bit disappointed. Just like she said, the other side of the door was a vast, empty space, about the size of a basketball court, but it was empty.
"It's true that this place lacks some decoration." Yang Le smiled and snapped his fingers.
After the snap, Gwen felt the ground shaking under her feet. The floor began to move, and a machine slowly rose from under the opened floor. After the machine was fully raised, the floor closed, and the machine began to deform and unfold. The upper part became a huge screen hanging in the air, and the lower part became an operating table filled with dense buttons.
"That's more like it." Gwen nodded in satisfaction, looking at Yang Le expectantly, waiting for him to do it again.
However, facing Gwen's expectant gaze, Yang Le just scratched his head awkwardly.
"Sorry, there's no more."
"Huh?"
"After all, it's just starting out. I've done pretty well to be able to pull off such a big show in such a short time." Yang Le spread his hands, instead looking at Gwen expectantly. "Shouldn't you praise me?"
"Uh? Of course?" Please forgive me, Gwen could only think of that at the moment.
