#349 - Courtney: You must be agents!
"Luther invested in the school?" Wally exclaimed, the news so shocking that he couldn't help but stand up.
Lex Luthor's name was well-known in the Justice League. As one of the most troublesome and dangerous enemies even Superman acknowledged, Barry had explained to Wally that Luthor's relationship with Superman was like the Joker's with Batman, or the Flash's with Reverse-Flash.
This explanation was simple and effective, allowing Wally to understand the extent of Luthor's danger immediately. Luthor, like the other two villains, was listed as a priority target by the Justice League.
Although Luthor was considered dangerous in the eyes of the Justice League, his public image was actually quite good, considered a relatively likable entrepreneur, in stark contrast to the publicly acknowledged playboy, Bruce Wayne.
As an aside, even with Bruce's poor reputation, he still ranked high on the list of people someone would want to spend a night with in a certain pink magazine, a feat that ten Luthors riding on Superman couldn't match (don't get the wrong idea).
It's no exaggeration to say that with Luthor's reputation, running for president might be a bit of a stretch, but running for mayor or governor would definitely be no problem.
So, facing such a commotion from Wally, Courtney, who hadn't become a superhero yet and didn't understand the truth of this world, would naturally find it strange.
"What's wrong? What's with the big fuss?" Courtney protected her iced drink to prevent Wally from knocking it over. "Lex Luthor funds more than just the Blue Valley school; what's the big deal?"
"No, nothing." Wally scratched his head. "I'm just happy for the development of my hometown, haha."
Courtney rolled her eyes at Wally and muttered, "Weirdo, so mysterious."
After the previous topic, Wally's mind was full of potential schemes that Lex might have, so naturally, he wouldn't try to find another topic. Courtney was also preoccupied with her own thoughts, and the two of them sat quietly, neither starting a new conversation.
Yang Le saw Wally's thoughts at a glance and was also speechless at Wally's unprofessionalism. Since you want to investigate, why not ask Courtney, who you can talk to, more questions? You might be able to find out something.
"Can you tell us about Lex High School?" Yang Le asked, seeing that Wally was useless, he had no choice but to take action himself. He brought out another plate of pancakes, topped with white cream, golden maple syrup, and garnished with a bright red cherry and some blueberries, which were made from the leftover materials from the ice cream truck.
Bypassing Wally, who was staring straight at the pancakes, Yang Le placed the plate in front of Courtney and said, "I have a niece who is almost middle school age, and I'm looking for a good school for her, so I'd like to hear your opinion."
Children Courtney's age need respect the most, so Yang Le was very particular about his wording, specifically mentioning 'opinion.' Courtney was indeed pleased, but she was still a little confused.
"If you want to go to middle school, shouldn't you just enroll in the nearest school based on the community?"
"Actually, her parents asked me to do it." Yang Le revealed the plan he had prepared long ago. "They want to leave the big city and move to a new place to live, and Blue Valley is one of the paradises they have chosen, but they are hesitant because of the teaching problems in Blue Valley, so the news you just said is like a pie in the sky for them."
"Oh, I see." Courtney took a sip of her drink, no longer suspecting anything. The reason she returned to Blue Valley to study was her mother and stepfather's idea. In her opinion, the little girl Yang Le mentioned was in a situation not much different from hers.
It's just that she probably doesn't have an annoying stepfather.
Courtney's face darkened for a moment when she thought of her stepfather, but she quickly concealed it and said kindly to Yang Le.
"Blue Valley Lex High School, although it is a new school, its facilities are very complete. At least the middle school I attended in Keystone City before can't compare to it. It's clean and tidy, the teachers are friendly, and even the food in the cafeteria is surprisingly delicious. The only drawback may be that there are relatively few students, after all, it has only been in use for a few months."
"Thank you for your introduction." Yang Le interrupted Courtney, who was about to go on and on, with a smile. "Can you tell me the location of the school? I want to visit it and ask the staff there."
"Okay, sure." Courtney looked a little unsatisfied, but she still pointed in the direction behind the park.
"It's in that direction, on the edge of Blue Valley. If you keep driving in that direction, you'll see it. Its teaching building is blue and white, you can recognize it at a glance."
'It's not green.' Yang Le muttered in his heart. He thought Luthor would make everything related to him green, like Kryptonite.
"Thank you, Courtney." Yang Le untied his apron and walked towards the RV. "The information you gave is very useful, but I'm still going to take a look at that school, after all, seeing is believing, I hope you don't mind."
"Uh, I don't mind." Courtney looked at the plate and the table in front of her. "But does it have to be now? Haven't you cleaned up your things yet?"
"Just consider it a gift to Blue Valley Park, after all, I'm an impatient person." Yang Le stepped onto the RV with one foot, and when he turned back to talk to Courtney, he saw Wally pointing at him and eager to try.
"Oh, right, Wally." Yang Le seemed to suddenly remember something.
"Yes, Mr. Yang!" Wally immediately stood at attention, looking like a Boy Scout, scaring Courtney next to him.
"You are responsible for taking Courtney home." As soon as Yang Le said this, Wally wilted like an eggplant hit twice.
"Don't forget, you are still in confinement. Besides, it's getting late, how can you let Courtney go home alone? Although Blue Valley is very safe, this is a matter of principle."
After Yang Le finished speaking, he ignored the distraught Wally, said goodbye to Courtney, got on the small broken car, and drove away from the park to Blue Valley Middle School with the melodious ice cream truck music.
Looking at the distraught Wally, Courtney asked with some doubts, "What's wrong with you all of a sudden?"
"Nothing." Wally still hung his head and walked silently towards the outside of the park. "Let's go, I'll take you home."
"I don't want to go back." Courtney ate the last piece of pancake. "I felt you were a little strange from the moment we met, Wally, and you became even stranger after seeing Mr. Yang Le."
"How could that be?" Wally's mouth twitched. "It must be your illusion."
Courtney looked Wally up and down, and when Wally was feeling guilty, she said, "Could it be that Mr. Yang Le is a secret agent?!"
Wally: "?"
"That must be it!" Courtney said with certainty. "Your conversation with Mr. Yang Le was strange from the moment you met him. What extracurricular activity instructor? You must be a secret agent apprentice, and Mr. Yang Le is your teacher. He said you were in confinement because you made a mistake, so you were put on administrative leave, right?"
Wally couldn't help but sweat. In a sense, Courtney guessed correctly, but the profession she guessed should change from secret agent to superhero.
"He said he came to travel to earn travel expenses, he must be trying to hide his identity to gather intelligence." Courtney became more and more excited as she spoke, and was about to jump up. "He just asked about the intelligence of Blue Valley Middle School, something must be happening there. Oh my god, I'm so smart!"
I'm having writer's block. I originally planned to have some young heroes appear in this small event, but after thinking about it carefully, I felt it was a bit of an overreaction, so I plan to move it to the next event, so sorry, there will only be one chapter today.
