#36 - First encounter with Matt Murdock

"Good evening, Mr. Murdock."

Matt nodded, then walked into the elevator with the help of his cane and accompanied by two security guards.

The younger of the security guards wanted to step forward to help, but was stopped by his partner, who watched Matt swipe his card before the elevator doors slowly closed.

"I thought he would need my help," the younger security guard said.

His partner patted him on the shoulder and said, "Don't do unnecessary things."

After speaking, he turned and went back to his post.

The elevator shook slightly, and with the elevator's chime, Matt walked out of the elevator and returned to his home.

As a blind person, Matt didn't need lights. After all, it was his home, and he was familiar with navigating in the dark, making his way to the liquor cabinet.

Pulling out the cork and taking out two glasses, Matt said as he poured the wine.

"I thought you were going to hide for a while longer."

Standing not far behind Matt, Gwen, who was just about to speak, was startled.

"You knew I was here?"

"I noticed you as soon as I got home." At this time, Matt had already poured the red wine, and he handed one of the glasses towards Gwen.

"If you don't mind, we can have a drink and chat slowly, or I can do my best as a host."

Matt had a smile on his face, just like in the newspapers, the ease of a victor, as if everything was under his control.

"It seems that Mr. Murdock is not welcome to me."

Matt's skin crawled, and the wine glass in his hand even creaked as he gripped it. He moved his feet, taking a few steps to the side, away from the suddenly appearing ethereal voice.

"This is really hurting my feelings. It seems that I didn't make it onto Mr. Murdock's invitation list."

Yang Le's voice, transformed into an Ice Wraith, was ethereal like a ghost, slowly entering Matt's ears.

"To be precise, both of you should be uninvited guests." Matt wiped the fine sweat from his forehead. "But not figuring out the number of guests is really making me blush with shame."

Loosening his tie, Matt still couldn't figure out how Yang Le had bypassed his senses and suddenly appeared beside him. If Yang Le hadn't spoken, Matt might not have been able to detect him.

His powerful senses, which had protected him for decades, could not give him a sense of security at this time. He seemed to have returned to the darkness of his childhood.

Looking at the flustered Matt, Yang Le knew that the first step of the plan was completed. As a great lawyer, Matt had a very strong mental defense. Under normal circumstances, it would be difficult for him and Gwen to get the information they wanted from him.

So the primary goal was to make a hole in his mental defense and destroy his confidence.

And the method Yang Le chose was very simple, directly confronting his powerful senses and attacking the abilities he relied on for survival. The Ice Wraith was undoubtedly the most suitable for doing this.

Matt's senses, which were more powerful than radar, could make anything have nowhere to hide. He could rely on his other four senses besides sight to create a three-dimensional image in his mind, with a range that could even encompass several blocks.

So Matt could detect Gwen as soon as possible. He probably had already discovered her in the elevator.

However, the Ice Wraith was obviously his nemesis. The Ice Wraith's phase manipulation ability allowed him to hide in another dimension, not in the same world. Matt's four senses, which he relied on for survival, naturally could not capture Yang Le. In other words, as long as Yang Le controlled his own cold air and didn't freeze Matt, then Matt wouldn't be able to detect him even until death.

"We have no malice, Mr. Murdock." Yang Le released his phase ability, allowing Matt to sense his position. "We just have some small questions we hope to ask Mr. Murdock."

"What questions? If I know, I will definitely tell you everything." Matt was secretly on guard, in stark contrast to his initial ease.

"The Hand." Gwen said from the side. "Do you have any clues about them?"

'Wow! You guys have really come to the right place, after all, the leader of the Hand is right here.' Matt thought to himself calmly.

Although he didn't know how they found out that he was related to the Hand, they obviously didn't know that he was the leader of the Hand.

'When the other party's purpose is not clear, it is obviously better to divert the disaster eastward.'

Matt asked calmly: "The Hand? Sounds a bit familiar. Are you their enemies?"

"I have to remind you, Mr. Murdock." Yang Le said faintly from the side.

"Ask less about what you shouldn't ask."

"OK! OK! I need to flip through my files. I hope you don't hurt me, after all, I'm just a blind man."

"An ordinary blind man can't discover me." Gwen said coldly from the side, obviously still brooding over being discovered at the first moment.

Before coming, Yang Le had made a bet with her, betting on whether she would be discovered by Matt at the first moment. Betting on breakfast the next day, Gwen felt that Yang Le was underestimating her and confidently accepted the bet.

"I've been blind for decades, of course there have to be some differences. There's an old Chinese saying, 'Practice makes perfect,' right?"

Matt raised his hands to signal Yang Le and Gwen to calm down, then groped and walked into the room next door, and began searching on the table.

Gwen walked to Yang Le's side and touched Yang Le's hand. This was what they had discussed before coming. Before communicating, they must first remind each other. Yang Le didn't dare to conspire loudly in front of someone whose ears could hear sounds from several blocks away.

Yang Le put his finger to his mouth, signaling Gwen not to speak first, and then quietly watched Matt goofing off in the room.

Matt in the room naturally noticed the interaction between Yang Le and Gwen. He waited for a while and found that the two of them didn't speak except for some physical movements, which made him feel a little regretful.

At the same time, he also felt a trace of horror. Why did the other party know him so well? This degree of understanding even exceeded his boss, Kingpin.

Pressing the doubts and fears to the bottom of his heart, Matt groped and walked out of the room again.

"I just looked up some information. According to my information, the Hand is a cult-like assassin organization. To be honest, why didn't I notice them earlier? These cultists are best to take advantage of."

While throwing out some unimportant information, Matt didn't forget to emphasize his identity, a black-hearted lawyer.

Under the mask, Gwen frowned in disgust. She really found it difficult to connect the hero Yang Le spoke of with the life-threatening bastard in front of her.

"We know all this. I hope you can bring me something different." Yang Le slowly吐出some cold air from his mouthpiece, and the taste of threat was self-evident.

"Don't be excited, don't be excited, I have some information here that you will definitely be interested in." Matt quickly raised his hands and gave a French military salute, and the surrounding cold air made him shiver like a drowned quail.

"I know one of their strongholds!"
