#586 - Injustice (!)
“From now on, all superhumans worldwide need to be regulated.”
Hyperion, clad in black battle armor, descended from the sky, his yellow cape billowing without wind. His imposing presence caused even the President, standing before the microphone, to step back several paces.
“And it will start with the United States first.”
The scene was silent. Not to mention the reporters and officials, even the highly trained bodyguards momentarily forgot their responsibilities, or rather, dared not fulfill them.
“Oh! It seems our strongest hero is also worried about you all.”
The President, having seen the world, quickly recovered and found a way to save face. Despite his smiling demeanor, discontent was already accumulating in his heart.
‘When Ross wasn't dead, he relied on his power to defy me and coveted my position, wanting to prevent my re-election. Now that he's dead, his son is also causing trouble.’
He cursed inwardly, but the President didn't show it on his face, maintaining his affable facade. However, while he could fool others, he couldn't fool Hyperion.
With his powerful senses, Hyperion had already detected the President's physical changes. The sudden increase in heart rate and slightly elevated temperature all indicated the man's unease.
“Everyone, what are you still worried about? Our Mr. Hyperion has stepped forward to guarantee that he will manage those super criminals. You don't need to worry about those freaks anymore.”
The President tried his best to return to the microphone, using Hyperion to stabilize public sentiment. After all, it wasn't just anyone who died this time, but a well-known figure in the American military.
Even someone of that stature could be killed by a superhuman. It wasn't just ordinary people, but even those who considered themselves to be in high positions were feeling insecure.
In most cases, the law cannot restrain superhumans. This is common knowledge. They are like people born with a handgun, or a rifle, or an RPG. In short, they are born with the power to challenge the law.
In most cases, ordinary people can only pray that superhumans have sound moral values. This is why the government established superhuman law enforcement, because superhumans are too powerful; fighting fire with fire is the best solution.
Today, Hyperion's words awakened the President. Perhaps the superhuman law enforcement plan really needed to be accelerated. He originally thought that having Hyperion would solve everything, and if not, the other members of the Supreme Squadron could help.
But who would have thought that the Supreme Squadron, except for Hyperion, were all showpieces? All flash and no substance, good for dealing with handguns, but struggling with rifles, let alone RPGs.
Now America is facing both internal and external troubles. The internal trouble is the series of chain reactions brought about by the death of that old man Ross, and the external trouble is Magneto and a large group of mutants who are establishing a country.
Neither of these is a small matter, and now they've joined forces. This has made our capable President start considering giving up on re-election.
The President's passionate speech, coupled with the powerful superhero, did indeed stabilize many people's hearts for a time. If it continued like this, it might really have been an inspiring speech, but unfortunately…
“Huh?” The President felt someone grab his collar from behind, and then he was lifted off the ground.
“What are you doing! Hyperion!” The President was both ashamed and angry. He knew who had done it without even thinking. Standing next to him were only the bodyguards and Hyperion. The former didn't have the courage, let alone the ability, to do this. Only the incredibly strong Hyperion could have done it.
Being lifted up like a chicken in front of so many people would make any normal adult feel ashamed and angry, let alone the President. Naturally, he was furious, shouting for Hyperion to put him down.
“I don't have time to cooperate with you in another one of those performances, Two-Faced President.”
Hyperion mocked the President he was holding. The bodyguards beside him were a step late in drawing their hidden weapons, shouting for Hyperion to release the President.
How could ants scare an elephant? Hyperion ignored the three armed guards beside him, the vigilant police officers below the stage, and a sniper on a distant high-rise building, casually tossing the President aside and stepping up to the microphone.
“Not long ago, I always believed that even those superhumans who had made mistakes should be given a chance.”
Hyperion placed both hands on the podium and said in a deep voice, “But now I realize I was wrong. Give them a chance? Then who will give a chance to those who have been hurt by them?”
“There's an old Chinese saying, ‘Knights use martial arts to violate prohibitions.’ Superhumans are the same. Relying on their innate advantages, they constantly harm ordinary people. Now my father and sister have also suffered.”
“Father and sister?” A reporter below the stage frowned and muttered, then suddenly realized. “So General Ross is your father!”
It wasn't that this reporter was smart, but that Hyperion's hints were too obvious. The most recent and fatal father-daughter pair were the Rosses.
Even though many people died in the New York incident, including father-daughter relationships, who cared about them? Reporters only cared about big news! Big news!
If he guessed correctly, this was an unprecedented big news story!
“That's right.” Hyperion nodded in acknowledgment, causing another uproar below the stage. The last shock was because Hyperion attacked the President.
“I never know the pain until the knife falls on me.” Hyperion smiled bitterly, but his expression immediately became firm. “I have tasted the bitter fruit of my own侥幸心理, and it feels terrible, so I decided to be the last person to taste it.”
“As I said before, from today onwards, all superhumans must be regulated, whether good or bad, old or young, all must be registered.”
“I give all superhuman criminals one last warning. From today onwards, if you continue to commit crimes without changing your ways, then I will personally take your lives!”
“Who gave you this right!”
Hyperion's shocking statement had just landed when a discordant voice of opposition immediately rang out from the crowd. People quickly made way to avoid being caught in the crossfire.
“Who gave you this right?” A burly black youth walked out of the crowd. Even though he was wearing a loose sweatshirt, it couldn't hide his muscular physique.
“Do you want all superhumans to be your submissive subjects?”
