#803 - Changing Cause and Effect
Asgard had a prophecy considered taboo: the previous God-King, Serpent, would return and perish with the current Crown Prince of Asgard.
Prophecies are impossible to break. Odin, desperate to save his son, exhausted every method he could think of, even sacrificing his eye to the World Tree, but couldn't reverse the prophecy.
This was because the cause and effect carried by this prophecy had already been determined; it was destined to happen.
It's like you come up with an interesting plot and write a novel around it. You can't guarantee what other things will happen in the novel, but that interesting plot is bound to occur.
However, the current situation has been broken because Yang Le brought the effect forward, severing the ongoing cause.
You might think this is far-fetched, but triggering this effect is actually extremely strict.
Not just any future object can influence cause and effect; it must be something that can participate in the entire chain of cause and effect.
After this Sky Hammer was hit by the time ray, its only fate, without being affected by anything else, was that its master, Serpent, would die, causing it to lose its energy source and become an ordinary stone.
So, it represents the normal outcome of this prophecy: Serpent's death, rather than being destroyed in battle like other Sky Hammers. Such damage wouldn't affect the overall cause and effect.
Only this type of damage represents the end of cause and effect. Because of the connection between prophecy and time, this stone, which appeared at the wrong time due to Yang Le's laziness, inadvertently had the effect of severing cause and effect.
Severing cause and effect means the entire prophecy has been affected, even destroyed.
Just this stone, which no one would even look at if it were lying on the roadside, unexpectedly became the key to breaking the prophecy.
On Earth today, besides Yang Le, who is sensitive to time and the one who caused the damage, probably only two other people can detect this change.
...
"Hmm?"
Serpent, who was in his final meditation before the decisive battle, suddenly frowned. He was currently fully mobilizing the power within his body, preparing for the upcoming battle.
Logically, this was his most vulnerable moment because his mind was highly focused, making him less sensitive to the outside world. Therefore, Serpent needed Loki to protect him in case of a sneak attack.
But even at this moment, he could sense subtle changes from the outside world. How to put it? It felt like a thousand-pound burden had been lifted, as if an invisible shackle had disappeared.
Why did he have this feeling? What was the reason?
"Could it be?!" Serpent suddenly widened his eyes, and vast energy erupted from his body, soaring into the sky and dispersing the dark clouds.
"Father?" Loki was also surprised. She thought someone had evaded her senses and attacked Serpent. Before she could ask, the earth-shattering energy from just now disappeared.
"Hahahaha!"
Serpent laughed仰天狂笑, laughing like a madman. He even needed to support himself with one hand to prevent himself from falling.
After a while, under Loki's puzzled gaze, Serpent finally stopped laughing. He wiped away the tears from the corners of his eyes caused by the laughter before standing up, leaning on his hammer.
Loki seized the opportunity to ask, "Father, what exactly happened?"
"A good thing, my child." The smile on Serpent's face couldn't be suppressed, and even his aura had changed.
If the original Serpent was gloomy like a poisonous snake, he now resembled a heroic dragon. Loki was curious about what could cause such a significant change in such a short period.
"The shackles binding me have disappeared." Serpent clenched his fist. He could feel that even the flow of energy within his body had become smoother, and his body moved as freely as a machine that had been oiled.
"Although I don't know how it happened, the prophecy that has bound me for thousands of years has disappeared. Do you know what that means, child?"
Loki didn't interrupt. She knew that what Serpent needed at this moment was a listener, not a yes-man, so she lowered her head slightly, appearing all ears.
"It means Asgard will bear my wrath!"
Serpent spread his hands, and a gale instantly swept over him, but the heroic king remained unmoved. Purple lightning constantly fell from the sky, and at this moment, he truly had a bit of the shadow of the former Asgardian God-King.
Serpent was ready. Without the constraints, he no longer needed the twists and turns he had come up with before. The revenge on Asgard must be carried out in the way that best suited a king.
He would announce to the Nine Realms the return of Serpent, the true return of Kur!
...
At the same time, on the Rainbow Bridge leading to Earth, Thor, who was driving his chariot, also felt a trace of abnormality.
Thor didn't suppress this abnormality. He turned to look at Odin, who was riding on the eight-legged steed, and asked the question in his heart.
"Father, I seem to feel something is wrong."
"What is it, Thor?" Odin didn't dare to neglect it. He knew that Thor was the child in the prophecy, and he didn't dare to have the slightest omission because he loved his son so much.
"I don't know, I just feel lighter." Thor stretched his shoulders. "It feels like taking off the weights used for training, inexplicably lighter."
The others around him were confused. What was this about taking off weights? They were on their way to the battlefield; what was the point of saying these irrelevant things?
Odin was also puzzled. He lowered his head, closed his only eye, and after thinking for a while, he inexplicably thought of a possibility. He thought he was crazy when this possibility first appeared in his mind.
As the God-King of Asgard, he had many unique abilities, including being able to understand things that could not be seen by conventional means.
Even after receiving an answer, Odin still couldn't believe it. He then questioned the World Tree before daring to believe that the information he had obtained was correct.
"The prophecy has ended?"
With this sentence, Odin breathed a sigh of relief. He seemed to exhale the haze that had been buried in his heart for thousands of years, and at this moment, Odin finally unloaded the stone in his heart.
"What?" Thor was stunned; he thought he had misheard.
"I said the prophecy has ended!"
Odin's voice was loud, and this sentence reached everyone's ears.
"The prophecy targeting the Crown Prince has been broken. Warriors, forget what I told you at the beginning. Once you discover Serpent, launch a full-force attack!"
