Mountain pass, also known as "pass" or "mountain saddle".

It is generally believed that a mountain pass is the result of river erosion cutting through a watershed on both sides of a ridge. It will naturally become a passage through a mountain range, and because it is usually low-lying, the cost of passage will be reduced exponentially.

The Mamisoysky Pass in the eastern Caucasus Mountains is such a pass.

(Note: Modern times have built a road on this mountain pass from Salda to Chilik)

Captain Fedor is a company commander of the 100th Regiment of the 1st Mountain Division. They are responsible for guarding the left side of the mountain pass. Another company, the second company, is stationed on the other side of the mountain pass.

Captain Fedor and his men had been holding off the Soviets here for six days.

Captain Ferdo's 1st and 2nd companies adopted the tactic of alternating cover. To put it simply, when the Soviet troops charged towards the 1st company's position, the 1st company would resist for a while and then retreat along the communication trenches to the second line of defense. The Soviet troops would follow. Chase forward with the German army.

Then naturally, the flanks of the Soviet charge formation would be exposed to the muzzles of the Second Company on the opposite side of the mountain pass, and then the First Company and the Second Company would work together to push the Soviet army back.

Similarly, if the Soviet army attacks the second company, the second company will retreat and give up a frontal line of defense, so that the charging Soviet army will be flanked by the two companies of German troops.

German soldiers called this tactic "tango" because the two companies were like two legs in a "tango", advancing and retreating in coordination with each other.

The battle was relatively easy, because Fedor still had time to argue with the second company commander Captain Hans on the walkie-talkie:

"If this is a 'tango' dance, then the second company must be male!" Captain Hans said.

"No, of course not!" Fedor objected angrily amidst the sound of artillery: "We have repelled the Soviet attacks five times more than you, so we are the men!"

"That's right!" Hans said: "The Soviets like to beat women, so they beat you five more times!"

"Fuck you!" Fedor cursed loudly, and then the two burst into laughter over the walkie-talkie.

At this time, the Soviet army launched another attack, with both sides attacking at the same time.

Since the Soviet army became aware of the German tricks three days ago, they began to use synchronized attacks, but this still did not change anything.

The reason is very simple. One company of the German army is more than enough to block the Soviet attack. The two sides have discussed who will attack first and the other side will still retreat a little as before, and then the previous pincer attack will be formed.

but……

This time the Germans soon discovered that something was different, because a machine gun bullet fired from far behind and "swished" above the heads of the Germans.

"What's going on?" Fedor asked loudly.

Hans yelled in panic from the walkie-talkie: "The Soviets are behind us, we are surrounded!"

"Hang on!" Fedor replied: "They said someone will come to save us at the critical moment!"

"Do you believe what they say?" Hans asked.

"Of course!" Fedor replied: "It was the order from General Frecco. He has never lied to us!"

"I'm not as confident as you... Oh, God, at least they have a battalion behind us!"

Hans's estimate was correct. There was indeed a Soviet battalion that circled behind the German army. They circled the mountain pass for more than ten kilometers, climbed over a peak with an altitude of 2,000 meters, and even climbed over several cliffs. It took four days to get there.

For this reason, Merskov, who led the team, also broke his arm, which is still hanging around his neck. More than thirty of his subordinates also froze to death or fell to death during the trip.

But Merskov thinks it's worth it, because this is the moment they've been waiting for.

"Comrades!" Merskov raised his gun with his uninjured right hand and waved it forward: "The moment of victory has arrived. Kill these fascists and let them know the price of invading us!"

The Soviet soldiers shouted loudly, then rushed towards the German position with rifles with bayonets in hand under the cover of machine gun fire...

According to common sense, the German army should not be able to avoid being surrounded and annihilated, because they are already surrounded by enemies on all sides, and the enemy's encirclement has become so small that they cannot be moved and avoided.

However, at this moment, Merskov felt a strange air flow, and the faint "chugging" sound of some motors could be heard among the sound of gunfire.

Merskov looked behind him, but saw nothing.

But the next moment, he opened his eyes wide and couldn't believe what he saw... A strange plane with propellers on both sides rose up from the cliff and appeared in front of him. Dozens of gun barrels under the wings were visible. His scalp was so numb that Merskov didn't even notice the three machine guns on the left, center, and right under the fuselage.

What actually works is the machine gun, because the distance between the enemy and ourselves is too close at this time, and the rocket launcher has poor accuracy and can easily cause accidental damage.

Merskov hurriedly shouted to the soldiers: "Enemies in the rear!"

But it was too late. The three machine guns of the armed helicopter spit out tongues of fire, and the dense bullets made pieces of snow fly up, and then extended into the crowd of Soviet soldiers who were charging towards the German position... Rows of Soviet troops fell screaming, and they didn't know where the bullets came from until they died.

Then the armed helicopter "swish" fired a row of rockets in the direction of the Soviet army on the other side. Balls of flames rose into the sky, cutting off the second half of the Soviet assault force... This was because they were worried about accidentally injuring their own people. , the rockets hit far away.

Immediately afterwards, two more armed helicopters appeared, "chugging" over the heads of the German troops, and the machine guns below fired fiercely at the remaining Soviet troops.

The Soviet army hurriedly raised their guns to fight back, but the armor at the bottom of the armed helicopter was thick enough to withstand Soviet rifles and light machine guns... This is one of the reasons why helicopters are powerful weapons in highland combat. It is rare for enemies to have heavy equipment in their hands.

This made the Soviet resistance insignificant, and the armed helicopters could be said to be a massacre of the Soviet troops lined up in dense formation below.

To make matters worse, a dozen more helicopters appeared around, and then heavily armed German soldiers slid out of the helicopters.

"What I said is right!" Fedor said with a walkie-talkie: "They will show up. It's the 1st Infantry Regiment. We will pass through Baku with them. Do you remember it?"

"Of course!" Hans replied: "You know what? I hate them!"

"Why?" Fedor asked in confusion: "They just saved our lives!"

"Because..." Hans said: "They can obviously get rid of the enemy easily, but they want us to fight here for six days! Six days... six whole days!"
