The Elixir is for You, The Poison is for Me
#13 - Thatched Cottage
Although he didn't find his master, Lu Jing didn't plan to give up on treatment just like that.
It was just that he was clearly having a bad day. It was only mid-morning, and he had already been beaten up twice. Lu Jing was worried about what other troubles might be waiting for him.
So, he deliberately slowed down, carefully observing his surroundings, especially those who looked like martial artists. He kept a safe distance from those unstable elements, even taking detours, until he saw the thatched cottage in front of him, and then he breathed a slight sigh of relief.
At this moment, he had already left the city again and arrived at a small village three miles west of the city. There was no bustling riverside scenery, no brothels and wine flags, no carved railings and flying eaves, and no bustling crowds. Instead, there was a scene of new sunshine over the open fields, with a clear view and no dust.
Along the way, although there were only thatched cottages with wattle fences, most of them were neatly repaired, with vegetable gardens and chicken coops behind the doors, and various flowers planted in front of the doors. These flowers could decorate the house and be picked to exchange for money.
Good, there were only a few rows of herbs drying and a young apprentice busy decocting medicine at the door. There were no suspicious people to be seen.
So, Lu Jing stepped forward, waved to the young apprentice, and asked, "Is Doctor Jia here?"
The young apprentice was superficially watching the heat, but in reality, his heart had long since flown away. He was secretly pondering how to take advantage of his master's back being turned to pluck some of the herbs he had just picked and play grass fighting with others. As a result, he was suddenly shouted at by Lu Jing, and he was so startled that he almost kicked over the casserole in front of him.
When he came back to his senses, he hurriedly replied, "Master is taking a nap in the back room…"
Before he could finish speaking, he heard a voice coming from the thatched cottage behind him, "It doesn't matter, I'm already awake. Please invite the guest in."
Hearing this, Lu Jing walked past the young apprentice and entered the hall behind him. After a while, he saw a person walking out from behind the hall.
Judging from the person's appearance and dress, he was definitely a reclusive doctor who was indifferent to fame and wealth, with a youthful face and white hair, a goatee, a cloth robe and an iron crown, and a pair of straw sandals on his feet. There was nothing else on his body, which was truly simple and indifferent.
Lu Jing initially thought so too. Although he didn't have much interest in traditional Chinese medicine in his previous life, he didn't hate it either. He never denied the important role that traditional Chinese medicine and traditional Chinese medicine had played in history. Although he felt that traditional Chinese medicine had become a bit outdated in modern times, and that there were many mixed elements in this industry, since he had traveled to the Chen Dynasty, no one but traditional Chinese medicine could treat illnesses.
Therefore, when he first traveled here, as a northerner who was not very adapted to the climate here, when his body occasionally felt uncomfortable, or when he sprained his waist and legs while moving things, he would come to Doctor Jia for diagnosis and medicine.
It must be admitted that although this person was called Doctor Jia, his medical skills were really genuine. At least the few times Lu Jing looked for him, he could be said to have been cured with medicine.
Naturally, there was nothing to say here, but later, when he came to see a doctor, Lu Jing accidentally ran into a porter from the Green Bamboo Gang. When the two were waiting outside the house together, they chatted, and Lu Jing realized that Doctor Jia was probably bullying him because he was unfamiliar with the place. The consultation and medicine fees he had charged him before were actually twice as much as others.
It happened that it was also the time when Lu Jing was frantically saving money, wanting to raise enough apprenticeship money to learn martial arts. The poor child usually couldn't bear to eat two more vegetables, and a penny was split into two, but in the blink of an eye, he was cheated out of hundreds of pennies by an unscrupulous doctor.
When Lu Jing learned the truth, he almost picked up the hoe next to him and rushed in to dig up Doctor Jia and his ancestral grave. Although Doctor Jia later apologized to him and promised that he could give him a 20% discount on the normal price for seeing a doctor in the future, he would never return the extra money he had charged before.
Moreover, this guy shamelessly said, "If you get sick a few more times in the future, won't you earn back all the money you lost?"
Look, is this something a person can say?
This incident also taught Lu Jing a good lesson on what it means that people cannot be judged by their appearance. Who would have thought that such a place with beautiful mountains and clear waters could also breed such a thick-skinned and black-hearted person.
However, scolding is scolding, and the illness still needs to be treated. Since the master is not here, and he doesn't know when he will be back, he can only find a doctor to take a look first. After all, although this guy's character is not very good, his medical skills are indeed good, and he also sent a 20% discount coupon.
When Doctor Jia saw that the visitor was Lu Jing, he also seemed very wary, "Didn't we agree that you wouldn't ask for the money back?"
It would have been fine if he hadn't mentioned this, but when he did, Lu Jing's heart, which had been almost smoothed by the pastoral scenery, became restless again. He couldn't help but roll his eyes, "Who told you I was here to ask for money? Aren't you a doctor?"
"Oh, seeing a doctor, then pay first. Twenty pennies for seeking medical treatment, sixteen pennies for you…" Doctor Jia breathed a sigh of relief. After receiving the money, he pointed to the chair in front of him and sat facing Lu Jing.
Lu Jing stretched out an arm, and Doctor Jia also stretched out three fingers, first using the middle finger to fix the wrist, and the index and ring fingers to press on the cun and chi positions before and after the wrist.
After a moment, he raised his head and said with displeasure, "Boy, what's wrong with you?"
"What do you think is wrong with me?" Lu Jing didn't answer, but instead asked.
"Nothing serious," Doctor Jia spat out two words unhappily, "I think you're just too idle. Otherwise, why don't you go to the dock to carry goods properly and come to me to amuse me? You must still be resenting the previous matter."
"Am I so rich that I have nowhere to spend my money, spending sixteen pennies just to amuse you?" Lu Jing said gloomily.
Doctor Jia was stunned, "That's right, you are a vulgar person, so concerned about the money on your body, I guess you wouldn't joke with me like this."
… … … …
Lu Jing also spent a lot of effort to restrain the urge to punch the guy in front of him. This guy even cheated on the consultation fee, and he was still righteous and stern in disliking others' love of money.
