The Elixir is for You, The Poison is for Me
#82 - Ruthless
Lu Jing had traveled a long way to Song Zhongwen's residence to steal something, but he didn't expect someone else to beat him to it.
Before he could make a move, those Jianghu experts recruited by Song Zhongwen had already taken action.
However, Lu Jing still held onto hope, because according to Xiao Yi, the medicinal formula came from Ten Thousand Poison Valley and was a sensitive item. Song Zhongwen usually kept it well hidden.
Only Song Zhongwen and Xiao Yi knew of the formula's existence.
Furthermore, those Jianghu people were probably only after money, so it was unlikely they would take the formula.
Therefore, Lu Jing threw Xiao Yi back onto the donkey, held the door with one hand, and cautiously led the donkey into the Song residence. After just one look, he signaled to Amu behind him to stay outside and not move.
Because the scene inside was... too bloody.
Song Zhongwen's residence was large. Besides housing those down-on-their-luck Jianghu people, there were also many servants and family members.
And the latter two groups were obviously on Song Zhongwen's side.
When the riot broke out, they probably tried to stop the Jianghu people from committing violence, but instead, they lost their own lives.
For example, one of Song Zhongwen's concubines was now lying at Lu Jing's feet.
The concubine had probably been targeted for some valuable jewelry she was wearing on her head. Reluctant to part with it, she reached out to grab it, but first, her hand was chopped off, and then she was stabbed in the back. Now, with her hair disheveled, she lay in a pool of blood, already cold.
The further they went in, the more similar tragic scenes they saw. In such a large house, there wasn't even a single living person.
Lu Jing and Xiao Yi were both dumbfounded.
They obviously hadn't expected the riot to escalate to this extent, because no matter what, those Jianghu people and Song Zhongwen had some master-servant relationship over the years.
Even if they were breaking up, they should have just grabbed some money and run away. There was no reason to go to this extreme.
Lu Jing guessed that something must have happened in the middle that stimulated those Jianghu people, eventually causing the situation to deteriorate until it was completely out of control!
However, this wasn't something Lu Jing should be worried about. He patted Xiao Yi, who was pale-faced, on the donkey's back, "Stop looking around! Where's the formula I want?"
"Oh, oh, it's... it's in the study," Xiao Yi said tremulously.
"The study?" Lu Jing asked suspiciously, "Is there some mechanism in the study? Otherwise, that place is already very conspicuous. It's too careless of Song Zhongwen to hide the formula there. Or are you saying that you think the study must have been looted by those Jianghu people, so you plan to conveniently push the blame onto those guys?"
Xiao Yi's heart was exposed, and he became even more guilty.
As dawn approached, Xiao Yi knew that he had no other choice but to confess.
He said with a mournful face, "If the formula really... really is lost... I actually have a copy."
"Huh?"
Lu Jing's gaze towards Xiao Yi became unkind. This guy was indeed dishonest. He clearly had the formula himself, but he still brought him to Song Zhongwen's residence. It was obvious he had no good intentions.
Maybe there was no poison formula here at all. This guy wanted to use this opportunity to pull off a surprise counterattack or something.
It was a pity that he had calculated everything but didn't expect Song's residence to become like this.
"Young Hero Lu, you must keep your word. If I give you the formula, you have to spare my life," Xiao Yi said tremblingly.
Before Lu Jing could open his mouth to answer him, his vision suddenly blurred, and then he saw an additional figure in the small garden in front of him.
It was a man wearing a white robe, but he had a face that was even more enchanting than a woman's. A jade flute was inserted in his waist. Standing among the flowers, he made all the flowers lose their color.
He first glanced at the corpses around him, then looked at Lu Jing and sighed, "Such ruthless methods."
"I didn't kill these people. I just arrived," Lu Jing said warily, looking at the uninvited guest who didn't know where he came from. Then, he glanced at Xiao Yi on the donkey.
He wanted to see if this guy was behind it.
As a result, he found that Xiao Yi also looked bewildered, obviously not recognizing the white-robed man.
"That's a pity," the white-robed man sighed again, "I originally thought you were ruthless enough and had good martial arts aptitude. I even had the thought of taking you as a disciple just now, so you wouldn't have to die tonight."
Lu Jing frowned. Who would choose a disciple specifically for being vicious? Wouldn't that mean the master would have to be wary of the disciple at all times?
Seeming to know what Lu Jing was thinking, the white-robed man smiled slightly and nodded, "That's right. The martial arts of my lineage can't be practiced without a ruthless heart. In my early years when I was still traveling the Jianghu, the number of people I killed probably couldn't even fit in two courtyards this size."
"A disciple of a small sect accidentally got mud from my horse's hooves on my clothes when he rode past me, so I chased after him and killed him. Then, I killed his fellow disciple who was with him. Feeling unsatisfied, I ran to their sect and killed everyone from the sect leader to the disciple who had only joined three days ago. After finishing, I went back to town and bought a new set of clothes, and only then did my mood improve."
"Really? That's so ruthless. Then where did I offend you?" Lu Jing asked with vigilance, one hand already releasing the donkey's reins and quietly reaching for the cudgel at his waist.
However, he wasn't confident in his heart. Although he had just won a fight against six opponents very beautifully not long ago, in terms of level, Xiao Yi and those people were only equivalent to slimes on the plains near the novice village.
But the man in front of him exuded an extremely unapproachable aura from head to toe.
Even if he wasn't the ultimate boss of a high-level map, he should at least be a high-ranking officer of the Demon King's army like the Four Heavenly Kings, with a red name and a special BGM upon appearance.
His half-baked staff skills and light body skills obviously couldn't handle this ruthless character.
Lu Jing wasn't even sure if the true energy in his dantian could still block the opponent's attack like before. He only wanted to create some distance from the opponent now and then summon Amu to run away decisively.
However, the white-robed man didn't seem to be planning to give him this opportunity. He had already taken off the jade flute from his waist and said leisurely, "You didn't offend me, but I was entrusted by someone, and I have no choice but to take your life."
