The Emperor’s Angel of Death

#2737 - Blackstone Ambition

Of course, despite all the benefits of blackstone, it's not without its problems. For humans, the core issue is the processing technology. Humans certainly don't know how to process blackstone. The Necrons know, but those strange technologies probably aren't so easy to replicate. So, does blackstone seem useless to Sotha Null?

Of course not, because there are also the Eldar.

After obtaining the blackstone fortress, the Biel-Tan's Wraithsmiths studied their ancient heritage day and night, and also sought the help of Harlequins. Unexpectedly, the Frost Maidens actually dug up some "mythological stories" related to the Talismans of Vaul from who knows where.

By sorting out those scattered ancient texts, the Wraithsmiths basically determined that the blackstone fortress should be something personally crafted by the God of the Forge, and its goal in creating this powerful fortress was to target the strongest Star Gods during the War in Heaven, especially the Void Dragon.

According to mythological texts, towards the end of the War in Heaven, the Void Dragon became the main force leading the Necrons in attacking the Aeldari. To counter this incredibly powerful being in the material realm, the Aeldari gods set a trap. First, Asuryan, the chief of the gods, briefly clashed with the Void Dragon, consuming some of its power. Then, the Void Dragon went to a secret place to absorb the energy of a pair of binary stars to replenish its energy.

However, its every move was under the surveillance of the Aeldari gods. When the binary stars began to dim, Vaul, the God of the Forge, who had been lying in ambush for a long time, took action, manipulating double-digit blackstone fortresses to form a destructive array.

The texts don't record what happened in between, but the Void Dragon's attacks against the Aeldari stopped, and the Necrons claimed they had destroyed this powerful Star God.

When the War in Heaven ended, the Aeldari gods gradually retreated into the depths of the Celestial Realm. The Talismans of Vaul left in the mortal world became the Aeldari Empire's national treasures. Only direct orders from the Eternal Court could mobilize these divine objects. However, the Aeldari ancestors were also curious about such things. Research on blackstone materials had already achieved considerable results in the early days of the Empire.

Based on the ancestors' scattered texts, combined with detailed research on the blackstone fortress, the Wraithsmiths discovered that the interior of blackstone actually has a very dense and orderly needle-like structure. The directions they point to are consistent. Under extreme spatial forces, these originally tight structures will slightly loosen, allowing the needles to be changed. Once the needle structure is reversed, the entire nature of the blackstone will fundamentally change. This is the source of blackstone's warp polarity.

During the reversal process, the material properties of the blackstone will also change. If it is forcibly held in a certain state, it will become malleable.

Simply put, it requires a combination of special spatial forces, solidified time, and external manipulation methods that are not affected by solidified time to shape the blackstone into the desired form.

This is undoubtedly extremely harsh, but the Necrons can do it, and the Eldar can naturally do it too.

The Wraithsmiths have already proposed some feasible solutions, but they need to build a huge test site and consume a lot of resources and blackstone samples.

The Talismans of Vaul are not only war fortresses, but also the incarnation of the God of the Forge Vaul, and have important religious significance, so naturally they cannot be moved. Then blackstone must be obtained from other places. Sotha Null was still thinking about how to solve this matter when he left the court, after all, if he could develop Eldar blackstone technology, the value would be extraordinary.

Now that there is such a ready-made tomb, it naturally cannot be missed.

So, with an order, millions of machines entered the underground, and began to dismantle the Necron tomb with heavy power drills and large thermal cutting machines, turning all the blackstone into one-person-sized pieces and transporting them to the ship.

Of course, considering the hardness of blackstone, this will take a while, so Sotha Null went to deal with other things.

Sotha Null personally visited the auxiliary army troops, and visited the wounded. Although this unit suffered such heavy casualties, Sotha Null was satisfied with their performance, and there were also shortcomings. The Vasht'i and Pusht'i-ban units were designed by him very early. At that time, his strategic and tactical thinking was still stuck in the Empire's more "traditional" great infantry doctrine, but in the subsequent Maelstrom expedition, and long-term command of Eldar troops, and after fighting the Tau, Sotha Null's thinking and ideas have undergone tremendous changes, his vision is no longer so narrow, and he can see a series of problems caused by his initial design from more aspects.

The first is the choice of equipment. The Vasht'i, as a light infantry formation, is generally okay, but the support firepower is still too weak, and that kind of Imperial light infantry unit is really difficult to adapt to high-intensity operations. On the contrary, the Tau's unit formation and equipment configuration that he once witnessed are much more reasonable, and the problems of the Pusht'i-ban are even more serious. Sotha Null must admit that he may have been a little "vain" when designing, and the role of expensive shields on the battlefield does not fully match its value, but instead limits the flexibility of the soldiers, resulting in more casualties in this war, so that some soldiers would rather throw away their shields to fight (Sotha Null demanded that these soldiers who abandoned their equipment should not be punished afterwards), it just looked very majestic during the military parade.

Sotha Null realized that shields are okay for Space Marines, but not suitable for ordinary people. In addition, Sotha Null felt that the current equipment of the Pusht'i-ban was difficult to reflect its positioning, and it was only more heavy vehicles and long-range firepower than light infantry, and could not achieve the role of a "siege hammer", but was simply bulky.

After comprehensively considering these issues, Sotha Null had to make changes to his previous design.

First of all, the firepower of the Vasht'i must be comprehensively enhanced. First of all, the number of transport and support vehicles must be increased. In addition, the new Type 520 engineering tank will also become their main battle tank. The number of Tech-Priests in the company will be doubled. They will have a new task, coordinating and controlling the low-flying Vulture Gunships. In the future, at least 3 teams of 9 Vulture Gunships will be used as low-altitude reconnaissance and support forces for ground infantry in a company - Sotha Null thinks the Tau's Drones are really good, but this thing has a red line, and the risk of touching it is too high.

However, the cost of the Vulture Gunship is not low, mainly because of its complex flight control system, which requires a considerable amount of man-hours and a sufficient number of Tech-Priests to manually manufacture precision parts. If this is really the case, according to the number of troops Sotha Null envisioned, I am afraid that one million is not enough, this number can be described as scary, so relying on Ulan Hud alone is definitely not enough, and it must be purchased in large quantities from other forge worlds through transactions.
