The Emperor’s Angel of Death
#2813 - The plain trap
Chapter 2806: A Simple and Unadorned Trap
The Zealot faction believes that the Emperor's ultimate goal is to protect humanity in its fragile state by spreading His power among humans. Therefore, the Zealots are not concerned with extraordinary individuals, but instead seek evidence of the Emperor's power spreading among humanity through examples of collective talent or psychic ability. This process is considered vague and uncertain, yet they strive to seek out the Emperor's masterpieces everywhere, sometimes known as Miracle Chasers. Most Inquisitors of this faction are also psykers.
"I think Chapter Master Sorshyan didn't come to this place without a good reason."
Delia muttered to herself, then turned to look at the several Thunderhawks parked not far away, and the Space Marines holding boltguns, standing as still as statues. Their black lenses seemed to project a grim gaze.
"It is said that he displayed extremely clever and superb political skills during the Great Whirlpool Expedition, even forcing the Minotaurs Chapter, the personal guard of the High Lords of Terra, to submit. We may have underestimated him."
"Nothing can shake faith and loyalty! In the name of the Throne, we oversee everything and watch over everything!"
Amand's voice was invigorating, and then he strode forward, while his followers remained in the front yard, seemingly confronting the Astartes not far away.
The mansion's doors were open, and the three Inquisitors walked straight in. The mansion's foyer was impressive, with glass cabinets filled with strangely colored Jielan flowers hanging on the walls on both sides, some of which were extending their branches towards the door.
But beneath the gorgeous exterior, there were more signs of struggle. Glass shards and spilled soil were everywhere, and there were more ominous stains on the carpets and walls.
"Emperor be praised, death occurred here."
Hanif suddenly frowned, a familiar stench wafted over, a slightly sweet, metallic stench of injured flesh and dried blood. The Inquisitors were all familiar with this smell, but he did not see any bodies, only a reddish-brown trail leading along the winding stairs to the wall, where a secret door was opened, apparently leading to the basement on the first floor.
Delia lowered her waist, raised her hood, revealing her brown hair, carefully examining the blood-stained carpet, and then looked at the smashed cabinet.
"No bullet holes, these stains don't have the traces of cold-blooded murder, just caused by mad violence."
"Those Astartes, they can tear mortals apart with their bare hands. I didn't see the followers here, these traces may be theirs. They thought they were invaded, so they tried to resist."
"But, if that's the case, where did those bodies, or their remains, go? More importantly, why did they make such a mess here?"
Suddenly, a series of rapid, floor-scratching noises came from under the floor, and the three Grand Inquisitors immediately stared grimly at their feet.
Moreover, Delia felt it more profoundly.
"There is an evil power."
Accompanied by several guards, the three Grand Inquisitors boldly entered the secret door opened in the wall of the main hall, and went all the way down the steps. Fortunately, the lighting here seemed to be on.
Arriving in the underground space, they passed through a passage, at the end of which was a hexagonal room, with sculptures of gryphon dogs carved from blue marble on both sides. A huge portrait overlooked the entire room, with a stern man in a robe on it. The three were familiar with his hook-nosed features, this was Alexei Koh.
The hexagonal room had six doors, one of which was open, leading to a dimly lit room.
When the three walked in, they were immediately shocked by the scene inside.
The room was surrounded by many black shelves, on which were placed more than a dozen strangely shaped weapons that clearly exuded an evil aura. The Librarians of the Relictors Chapter were individually labeling these things with risks. A towering warrior stood in the center of the room, surrounded by more than a dozen Astartes. He had a handsome and strong face, and was smiling meaningfully at the three with his arms folded.
"First meeting, Grand Inquisitors Amand, Hanif, and Delia, who have made outstanding achievements. I am Sorshyan Alexei, Chapter Master of the Astral Knights Chapter."
Speaking, he turned to look at Artaelkus beside him.
"This is Chapter Master Artaelkus Bardan of the Relictors Chapter."
At this point, Hanif, who was known for his quick wit among the three, had already realized that something was wrong, so he said:
"Chapter Master Sorshyan, you are indeed a rare sight. We have sent you countless letters. Are you too busy to respond?"
"I just arrived at Victory Scar from my homeworld to take over not long ago, and there are indeed many things, plus—"
"Chapter Master Sorshyan."
Amand interrupted Sorshyan's words almost in a low growl. Such impolite behavior made Robinna, who was behind Sorshyan, twitch her fingers slightly at her side. Those who knew him knew that this was a signal before an attack, and he would only need 0.2 seconds to complete a beautiful slash and remove the opponent's head from his neck.
But someone held Robinna's shoulder, and finally made him give up this action, while the Inquisitor did not know that he had walked through the gate of hell, and was still rambling on.
He raised his hand and pointed at Artaelkus.
"The Fire Claws Chapter is suspected of murdering Inquisitor Alexei Koh. We need to investigate and interrogate them to find out the truth, and further punish this Chapter that evaded the Redemption Crusade. I hope you can cooperate."
Artaelkus visibly bulged the veins on his forehead. If Sorshyan wasn't there, he might have shot this mad dog.
Sorshyan just smiled slightly.
"How many people have you murdered in your life?"
"What!"
Amand was like an enraged lion, the few hairs on his head stood up.
"I am loyal to the Throne and the Emperor, and all those I kill are sinners and traitors. What do you mean by your words!"
"Oh, so killing sinners and traitors doesn't count as murder, does it?"
"Of course! This is the obligation and responsibility given to us by the Emperor!"
Clap clap clap—
Sorshyan suddenly applauded, which caught Amand off guard, and the other two also frowned.
"Okay, that's right, of course that's right, traitors deserve to die."
Then he turned around and waved his hand.
"Then the three of you can see, right? This is Alexei Koh's secret stronghold. I'm here to investigate the case. It just so happens that the three of you are also here, so let's handle it."
"Investigate the case? What case are you investigating."
At this time, Hanif and Delia had already reacted, they realized that they had fallen into the other party's trap, Delia immediately said:
"Please hand this over to us for handling, and those followers—"
