The Emperor’s Angel of Death
#2818 - The King's Court Appears
Although Veldrian's words implied that I was ignorant, Sol felt no anger. He was more concerned that the other party might suddenly say, "I heard the Everqueen's Phoenix King is similar in build to you." So, he nodded and vaguely replied:
"I see, so..."
"What I'm about to tell you today must be kept secret, as it's a top-priority matter being investigated by the Ordo Xenos. For the past two decades, the Inquisition has noticed subtle changes within Eldar society across various regions of the galaxy. Their activity has decreased, and ships have begun displaying unfamiliar symbols and banners. Soldiers bearing these symbols and banners have also appeared on certain battlefields. Inquisitors specializing in Eldar sociology have speculated that a new power may have emerged among the Eldar, leading to a long-term investigation."
As Veldrian spoke, Sol sighed inwardly, lamenting his carelessness.
He knew that what the Inquisition had discovered was definitely not a direct force of the Everqueen. Doral had mentioned this to him long ago – that those who joined the Everqueen, besides using their own symbols and banners, would also use those of the Everqueen. Doral called it a symbol of the Everqueen's expanding influence. Sol didn't take it seriously, subconsciously viewing the Inquisition as a group that spent their days scrutinizing the Imperium for faults.
But clearly, he hadn't interacted with the Ordo Xenos enough, nor had he expected them to be so dedicated.
"However, these Eldar remain as cunning and secretive as ever, making it difficult to uncover their secrets. But through various informants and comprehensive intelligence, the Inquisition has confirmed the emergence of a new faction within the Eldar, known as the Everqueen."
Hearing this, a question arose in Sol's mind: Why hadn't Doral reported the Inquisition's investigation into the Everqueen?
Had the Golden Wings not noticed?
Or did Doral have other ideas?
However, Sol couldn't directly question her about this, as he had instructed her to focus on Commorragh when the Golden Wings were established, and to minimize contact and interference with humans.
In a sense, this might indeed be due to his own arrangements. Sol then forced a slightly unnatural smile.
"What Everqueen? It's just... a bunch of aliens amusing themselves with nonsense."
Veldrian stared at Sol, speaking with utmost seriousness:
"You think that way because you've never truly fought the Eldar, and you're unaware of their cunning. I won't fault your dismissiveness, but I must remind you that this is far from mere amusement."
"Sorry, please continue."
"The Ordo Xenos is still investigating the Everqueen, but some speculations are unsettling. Some Inquisitors believe this is an Eldar plot to revive their old hegemony, especially those who have long opposed the Eldar. They believe that different Craftworlds and groups carrying the same banner signifies something."
"What thing?"
"Unification."
"Unification, cough, cough."
Sol suddenly felt a bit parched. He subconsciously summoned a servitor, and after taking a sip from the crystal cup, he realized it was Eldar wine from the Everqueen, originally intended to be shared with the other chapter masters in this conference room…
The next moment, he noticed the Space Wolf staring directly at him. As everyone knew, they were known for their keen sense of smell…
Instantly, a cold sweat broke out inside his armor.
"Can… I have a cup? It's been a while since I've had something good."
The Space Wolf's words stunned everyone. Watchmaster turned to say something, but Sol nodded.
"Of course… you can."
Taking the cup, the Space Wolf gulped it down, then smacked his lips.
→
"Wow, this is so good… What flavor is this? I feel like I'm flying, can I~"
"Enough! Go back to Fenris if you want to drink!"
"It's fine."
Realizing that the Space Wolf hadn't discovered anything, Sol continued the topic in a low voice:
"Do they want to establish an empire again?"
"There's no evidence yet, but it's undoubtedly the most terrifying future."
"Terrifying… it's not that terrifying, right? Just a bunch of… wretches. The Imperium can easily wipe them out. Even if they gather together, they can't do much… Isn't the Ordo Xenos making a mountain out of a molehill?"
"Easily?"
A rude voice rang out, laced with a guttural sneer. Sol looked over and saw the Space Wolf with messy, long hair tied into dirty braids and a grimace on his face.
Honestly, these Wolf Cubs all looked the same, and they carried the body odor that Sol detested. Their speech was also full of heavy guttural sounds. It wasn't that he had anything against barbarians, but being a barbarian shouldn't equate to being a bastard, and the Space Wolves were terrible in that they liked to treat certain bastardly behaviors as barbaric and took pride in it.
"When you're getting chased around by their shuriken catapults, you won't think dealing with the Eldar is an 'easy' thing."
"Ulressen."
Veldrian turned his head, speaking in a cold but undeniable tone:
"Don't let your rudeness bring you heavier consequences."
The Space Wolf muttered something and turned aside.
"Sorry, that's just how the Fenrisians are, but they are indeed the best hunters, able to smell aliens from a great distance."
"Ha, I've also dealt with the Sons of Fenris, not surprising."
"But I must also correct you, this matter is absolutely not related to the word 'easy'. The Eldar have a very ancient history. Although the Imperium generally doesn't publicize alien-related matters, we must have some understanding of them to fight them. Currently, Eldar society is in a state of high dispersion, which is why they dare not truly offend the Imperium. Perhaps they dare to attack Imperial worlds and Imperial fleets, but they would never dare to engage in a true all-out war with the Imperium because they are scattered, and therefore weak… But if they truly unify, they will definitely become a major threat, far exceeding the T'au of the Ultima Segmentum, and even enough to challenge the Imperium's galactic hegemony!"
Sol stroked his chin, speaking in a wavering tone:
"The Eldar haven't launched large-scale attacks on the Imperium, right… I mean, their strength isn't great, too weak compared to the Imperium's scale. Even if they gather together, they… won't amount to much, right? The Imperium has many enemies now, we should actually…"
"It seems you indeed lack understanding of them, which is normal. The Storm Zone only has some scattered Eldar pirates at most. I'm only saying these words here. Aliens are cunning and cowardly, but their technology and sorcery should not be underestimated. The Eldar's history can even be traced back to before the birth of humanity. Alien scholars speculate that they once had a great empire spanning the galaxy in that era, but it fell in a disaster. However, their power has not been completely lost. Any Eldar soldier can deal with several or even dozens of human soldiers. Their reaction speed and physical fitness are no less than ours, and their weapons are extremely destructive. Moreover, they have a large number of psykers. The appearance of any Craftworld can be considered a sector-level disaster, and this is just their situation after being dispersed for a long time. During the Great Crusade, the Imperium weakened them and destroyed some Craftworlds, but it was far from enough. Not long ago, the Imperium's Beta III was attacked by the Eldar Craftworld Alaitoc, resulting in millions of casualties. The number of aliens that could be counted on the battlefield did not exceed 10,000. This data is top secret, but I think it can help you understand the dangers of this alien race."
