The First Lackey Under The Empress

#406 - The Buddha Opens His Eyes (6k)

Whoosh—

A cold wind whipped the flags on the high platform, the gilded characters for "Challenge" particularly striking under the light of the Buddha illuminating the sky.

"Zhao Du'an?!"

On the platform, the Red Sect Lama and the monk Bianji, who were sitting cross-legged facing each other, looked astonished, the latter even losing his composure and calling out his name.

A clamor arose from the square.

The plump female nun, who had been sitting neglected in the front row of chairs, was stunned for a moment, her pair of 'wise eyes' staring at the young man who seemed to have descended like a celestial being, her expression becoming unusually strange.

Bodhisattva Prajna turned her head to look at Abbot Xuanyin beside her.

Well… As expected of the Divine Dragon Temple's Chief Disciple of the Celestial Human Realm, the old monk Xuanyin merely frowned slightly, offering no opinion.

With Xuanyin's status, he would not express any opinion on such a change of events.

"Zhao Du'an!" With a roar almost like a tiger's, Bodhisattva Nagarjuna suddenly stood up, his beardless face showing majesty:

"Today is a debate on Buddhist doctrines between Eastern and Western Buddhism. What do you intend to do by disrupting the assembly?"

After Zhao Du'an's arrogant rebuke, he heard the voice and looked down at Bodhisattva Nagarjuna, whose muscles were knotted and who was now holding a crescent moon staff.

It was the first time the two had met, but they had long been familiar with each other's portraits.

"Bodhisattva Nagarjuna asks well. I would also like to ask, what were you Divine Dragon Temple trying to do when this official went south before?" Zhao Du'an retorted with a cold face.

Nagarjuna felt a burst of frustration, and then Zhao Du'an continued loudly:

"And where is the criminal monk Dajing, whom the Divine Dragon Temple promised to arrest and bring to justice for assassinating this official? Has it been so long that you can't find him, or are you harboring him?"

"Envoy Zhao!"

On the platform, Bianji couldn't help but stand up, raising his hand to stop the rising anger of Nagarjuna, clasping his hands together, and said solemnly:

"It is only natural that the Envoy feels resentment. The Divine Dragon Temple also feels deeply ashamed of Dajing's inappropriate actions. The Abbot had already ordered the monks of various temples to go out and track down this person. The Divine Dragon Temple has also taken on the corresponding compensation…

Today is a debate, so please, Envoy, withdraw first. After the debate is over, we can discuss anything further at the temple."

The other monks, including the watching nobles, also spoke up to dissuade him.

They all thought that Zhao Du'an's anger had not subsided after the previous assassination attempt, so he suddenly launched a surprise attack on this crucial day.

Reproaching the Divine Dragon Temple in front of the Western Regions people, in order to vent the anger in his heart.

Causing the latter to lose face.

"Everyone seems to have misunderstood. Did you think that I came here today specifically to disrupt the debate and make the Divine Dragon Temple lose face?" Zhao Du'an smiled, "Who in the capital doesn't know that this official is broad-minded? How could I do such a boring thing?"

Broad-minded… Everyone choked at once, unable to respond.

Zhao Du'an held onto the flag beside him, his expression serious:

"I am here today not for personal grudges, but to reason!"

He swept across the monks and said loudly:

"You may not have heard clearly just now, so let me reiterate, I am here today only to debate! In my opinion, both Eastern and Western Buddhism have misinterpreted the true meaning of Buddhism, and they are arrogantly fighting over the so-called 'orthodoxy,' which is simply laughable! I am not targeting anyone, but I am saying that you… and you…"

Zhao Du'an raised his hand, pointing to the Divine Dragon Temple side, and then to the Five Directions Sangha of the Western Regions, his expression arrogant:

"Are all trash!"

Boom!

As soon as the words fell, there was an uproar in the square, and the Red Sect Lama's smile of watching the excitement froze, his eyes filled with confusion.

This male favorite of the female emperor, the military official of Yu, publicly declared that Eastern and Western Buddhism were completely wrong? And wanted to debate?

One against two, refuting both of them together?

"Arrogant!"

"This thief is hateful!"

"Drive him down!"

Many high-spirited monks were furious and shouted loudly, but Zhao Du'an remained unmoved, acting as if they could try to attack him if they had the ability.

"Abbot… what do you think we should do…?" Monk Nagarjuna was stunned for a moment, and not knowing what he thought of, his anger dissipated instead.

He turned his head to ask Xuanyin.

His initial anger was because he thought Zhao Du'an was here to make trouble for him.

Now that he realized that this madman had ignored him, he immediately realized that he didn't need to get involved in this matter, and should throw it to Xuanyin to give him a headache.

Bodhisattva Prajna didn't mind the excitement, suppressing the strangeness in her heart, and said:

"Abbot, please make a decision."

The old monk Xuanyin glanced at the two of them, and suddenly spoke, his old voice suppressing the commotion in the square:

"The Buddha is not the Buddha of one person, but the Buddha of the world. The debate is not just the views of two families, but can also encompass everything. Since Layman Zhao has unique insights, why not give it a try?"

Many people were stunned, not expecting Abbot Xuanyin to agree!

However, after thinking about it carefully, it was not surprising.

Zhao Du'an's identity was too special, and not long ago, the Empress had used her sword against the Divine Dragon Temple for Zhao Du'an's sake. At this juncture, conflict must be avoided.

Moreover, the traditional rules of Buddhist debate do not set limits. Even non-Buddhists participating in Buddhist debates are not uncommon in history.

"Holy Monk… what do you think…?"

Bianji's expression changed, feeling somewhat uneasy.

He had personally witnessed the scene of Mr. Zhengyang surrendering without a fight last time, when the philosophy of the mind was born, and he knew that Zhao Du'an was very strange.

But helpless, the Abbot had already spoken, so he could only look expectantly at the Western Regions monks—it would be best if the other party rejected and the Western Regions people came forward to drive Zhao Du'an away.

However, after the initial surprise, the Red Sect Lama's old monkey-like face suddenly stared at Zhao Du'an for a moment, and unexpectedly nodded:

"I have also long heard that Yu's Envoy Zhao has profound knowledge and has opened a new river of Confucianism. Since Abbot Xuanyin has already spoken, what if we postpone our debate between East and West? This old monk would also like to hear what insights Envoy Zhao has."

The Western Regions Holy Monk also agreed?!

Bianji took a deep breath, suppressed his unease, flicked his sleeves, and sat down cross-legged again, coldly saying:

"Envoy claims that our Eastern and Western Buddhism are completely wrong, how do you explain?"

Zhao Du'an smiled slightly, and seeing the square quiet down, he threw out the first sentence, which made the monks reveal unexpected expressions.

"I have heard that the debate between Eastern and Western Buddhism is not the first time. The so-called differences in orthodoxy are nothing more than in the 'method of cultivation'."

"The Buddhism of the Western Regions Ancestral Court has deep roots, originating from the ignorant masses' worship of the Buddha… Because it originates from worship, it has evolved into many rituals…

Therefore, the monks of the Western Regions Ancestral Court focus on 'attachment to form' in their cultivation, that is, strictly following the rituals of worshiping the gods. Whether casting spells or daily meditation, they all follow the ancient methods…

After that, Buddhism spread eastward. Thousands of years ago, the Maya Practitioner traveled from west to east, and there were already Buddhist believers in the Central Plains… This is the source of the Divine Dragon Temple lineage. After the Maya Practitioner spread eastward, their understanding of Buddhism also changed…"

"The opening chapter of the 'Contemplation of Mind Sutra' records, or asks: If a person aspires to the Buddha's path, what method should they cultivate to be the most economical and important?"

"The Maya Practitioner answers: Only the method of contemplating the mind encompasses all practices and is the most economical and important. What is contemplating the mind? The mind is the root of all dharmas. All dharmas are born from the mind. If one can understand the mind, all practices are complete…"

Zhao Du'an stood on the high platform, speaking eloquently, taking the lead in explaining the process of the evolution and divergence of Eastern and Western Buddhism in this world.

"What does it mean? The Maya Practitioner believes that the foundation of Buddhism lies in sitting in meditation and contemplating the mind, distinguishing between good and evil, and using the wisdom bestowed by the World Honored One to cut off evil and cultivate goodness, so as to 'see the nature of the mind' and obtain 'Buddha-nature'…

And the most important thing in chanting Buddha's name is the effort of 'chanting'. It is not the Amitabha Buddha on the lips, but the thoughts in the heart, close to the Buddha-nature…

The purer the heart, the less wisdom will be blinded by the secular world. In this way, the more profound the Buddhism, the closer it is to the 'World Honored One'. The more powerful the cultivation will be…"

"Therefore, the so-called dispute between the Western Regions and the Divine Dragon Temple is nothing more than a struggle between two methods of cultivation."

After a speech, the surrounding nobles were somewhat surprised:

Could it be that Lord Zhao really came to debate? This speech clearly shows that he has studied the history of Buddhism.

Bianji frowned and interrupted:

"What is the Envoy's intention in saying these histories? Debating is not about listening to you talk about history."

Zhao Du'an smiled, completely ignoring him, but the topic suddenly shifted:

"However, if we say that the disputes between the two factions were initially about ideologies hundreds of years ago, after countless debates, large and small, the so-called scripture debates have long turned from ideological disputes into verbal contests!"

After a pause, Zhao Du'an sternly criticized:

"The current Buddhist scholars... those who lecture, write, and record, produce complex and lengthy commentaries... the upper echelons grow old with graying beards, while the lower ranks toil until their hair turns white. The original precepts are naturally neglected, and reading commentaries becomes a lifelong pursuit, passed down from teacher to disciple, used as the standard for achievement.

They dissect chapters into sections, and sections into further subsections, and when explaining transgressions, they elaborate on sentences repeatedly... Moreover, works are meant to be easily understood; how can they deliberately use obscure language and then offer explanations for it..."

In recent days, after carefully studying the Buddhist teachings of this world, Zhao Du'an discovered that they shared many similarities with a certain period of history in the world he knew.

Both had experienced lengthy debates between localized doctrines and original doctrines.

This wasn't surprising, as the development of things follows certain laws.

Although the worlds are different, certain overarching laws, such as the cycle of dynasties splitting after prolonged unity and uniting after prolonged division... still hold true.

This barrage of criticism was originally spoken by the eminent monk Yi Jing, who went to Tianzhu (India) to obtain scriptures.

The general idea is that, in the process of evolution, Buddhism has gradually become more and more "academic," confined within temples, unable to reach beyond them.

It was somewhat... heart-wrenching...

As expected, upon hearing Zhao Du'an's sudden attack on the current Buddhism of the Jin Yu Kingdom, the faces of the Shenlong Temple's representatives changed.

However, amidst their anger, there was also a hint of guilt.

Yes, guilt!

Because what Zhao Du'an said was indeed a real problem.

The Red Sect Lama narrowed his eyes, remaining silent, observing the expressions of the Shenlong Temple monks with interest.

Monk Bianji's face was stern. After Zhao Du'an finished his tirade, he said in a deep voice:

"According to what Envoy Zhao has said, the current Buddhism is trapped in temples, which you believe is wrong. Very well, regardless of whether what you say is correct or not, we would like to hear, in your opinion, if Buddhism is not in temples, then where can it be found?"

"Yes, where?" A monk below echoed.

"You say that it is wrong for us to study Buddhism in temples, then tell us, where should we study it?"

The crowd was indignant.

Zhao Du'an stood against the wind, facing the barrage of questions, having anticipated the current reaction. After the questioning gradually subsided, he spoke, calmly and forcefully uttering five words:

"Buddhism is in the world!"

...

Buddhism is in the world!

Inside the Guanshui Tower, the civil and military officials of the court were gathered. After Zhao Du'an took the stage, a commotion erupted.

Because the Empress had not yet expressed her attitude, the officials, though their hearts were itching with curiosity, could only endure it.

Then, to their astonishment, they saw Xuan Yin and the Red Sect Lama agree to Zhao Du'an's unreasonable request to participate in the scripture debate.

Following that, Zhao Du'an's long-winded barrage of criticism was clearly transmitted to everyone's ears. Initially, they were relatively calm.

Until the utterance of the sentence "Buddhism is in the world."

Instantly, the expressions of several officials changed dramatically!

Yuan Li, the Censor-in-Chief, with his frosty temples and clear spirit, showed the most obvious change in demeanor.

As a rare court official who was well-versed in Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism, Yuan Li was unrestrained in his youth and befriended monks and Taoists. Therefore, he recognized the hidden murderous intent within these seemingly ordinary five words before the other officials!

"Lord Yuan?" Mo Chou looked at him in surprise, humbly seeking guidance:

"Is there a problem with what Lord Zhao said?"

Swish—

Instantly, everyone, including Xu Zhenguan and Princess Wenzhu, looked at Yuan Li.

Although the Empress had profound cultivation and her knowledge was by no means inferior to that of the men in the world, Xu Zhenguan ultimately focused most of her energy on cultivation and politics.

As the saying goes, specialization in one area leads to expertise. She understood Buddhist magic and supernatural powers very well, but when it came to Buddhist theory, she might not be as proficient.

As for Princess Wenzhu, although she had been in the Western Regions for a long time, frankly speaking... she only had a superficial understanding of these abstruse things.

"Lord Yuan, can you enlighten Us?"

Xu Zhenguan's heart stirred, and she asked.

Based on her understanding of Zhao Du'an, after the initial shock, she guessed that Zhao Du'an's sudden appearance must have some purpose.

It was this almost blind trust that prevented her from calling a halt.

Yuan Li came back to his senses, looked at the Empress, his expression unusually serious, even mixed with a hint of hidden excitement:

"Your Majesty, if I guess correctly, Lord Zhao is currently doing something very big, something that benefits the country and the people, and even affects future generations!"

Xu Zhenguan was stunned. That guy...

Princess Wenzhu looked suspicious, suspecting that this pair of ruler and subject were putting on an act for her. Wasn't it said that this male favorite was just a gilded good-for-nothing? Why are you all so solemn?

"What big thing?"

Xu Zhenguan subconsciously asked, but Yuan Li shook his head, looking ahead, his hands forcefully gripping the armrests of the chair:

"I'm not sure yet. I need to hear what Lord Zhao says next."

Xu Zhenguan pursed her lips and looked forward again.

...

"Buddhism is in the world?" The Red Sect Lama furrowed his brow and asked:

"What does this mean?"

A qualified straight man...

Zhao Du'an smiled slightly and gradually entered his lecture mode. He said loudly:

"For thousands of years, the core issue discussed in Buddhism has been nothing more than the four words 'How to become a Buddha'. Cultivators aside, I ask you, how do Buddhist believers become Buddhas?"

Bianji and the Red Sect Lama frowned, not answering immediately.

Below the stage, a monk couldn't stand it and shouted loudly: "They should give alms and cultivate blessings!"

"Oh? Is that so?" Zhao Du'an smiled:

"The 'Platform Sutra' records a story. Emperor Liang of the previous dynasty built temples. One day, the Bodhidharma had a conversation with Emperor Liang, and the latter asked, 'I have built temples and ordained monks, given alms and held feasts throughout my life. What merit do I have?' Bodhidharma said, 'No merit at all.'"

"Emperor Liang built countless Buddhist temples and was so good to Buddhism, giving so many alms, but Bodhidharma said that he had no merit... It can be seen that cultivating merit in Buddhism is not about cultivating blessings, but about the Dharmakaya (spiritual body)."

The monk was momentarily at a loss.

Zhao Du'an joked: "It seems that you monks don't chant scriptures attentively. Even I, a layman, have read the Buddhist scriptures better than you."

The monk's face turned red.

Zhao Du'an smiled and said: "Becoming a Buddha is naturally not about cultivating blessings. In my opinion, becoming a Buddha is only in one thought. If one is not enlightened, one is a sentient being; when one is enlightened, a sentient being is a Buddha!"

Enlightenment in one thought!

Before everyone could react, Zhao Du'an's speech suddenly accelerated. He pointed to the sky:

"For example, rainwater does not come from the sky; it is originally the Dragon King drawing this water from the rivers and seas, causing all sentient beings, all plants and trees, all sentient and insentient beings, to be moistened... The wisdom of Prajna (transcendental wisdom) of sentient beings is also like this."

Translated, everyone can become a Buddha, just as all beings can receive the opportunity of rain equally.

Bianji loudly questioned, interrupting forcefully: "That's not right! Why do you believe that sentient beings only need sudden enlightenment and don't need arduous cultivation to become a Buddha?"

Zhao Du'an did not pause, speaking powerfully: "The nature of sentient beings is pure, like a clear sky!"

He said loudly:

"The nature of sentient beings is pure, like a clear sky. Wisdom is like the sun, intelligence is like the moon, and wisdom is always bright. When attached to external objects, deluded thoughts are like floating clouds covering it, and the self-nature cannot be clear..."

"According to this method, from the beginning until now, both sudden and gradual enlightenment establish non-thought as the principle, non-form as the substance, and non-abiding as the foundation."

"What is 'non-thought', 'non-form', and 'non-abiding'?"

Zhao Du'an asked and answered himself:

"The method of non-thought is to see all dharmas (things), without being attached to any dharma."

He then looked around at everyone and sneered: "Both Eastern and Western Buddhism emphasize the practice of seated meditation, believing that this method can calm the mind, but I don't think so. Why bother with precepts when the mind is at peace? Why bother with meditation when actions are upright?"

"... At all times, walking, standing, sitting, and lying down, always practice a straight mind."

"In this way, there is no fixed entry, and wisdom has no reliance; raising hands and feet are always in the Bodhimanda (place of enlightenment)."

...

Guanshui Tower.

As Zhao Du'an went full throttle, speaking eloquently, layers of sound overwhelmed the entire venue, turning the debate into his own personal lecture stage.

The officials of the court, who had initially managed to keep up, gradually lost track, their eyes growing increasingly blank.

“Lord Yuan… this, what Lord Zhao said just now, I could still understand, but what does all this mean now?” One official couldn't help but ask.

Xu Zhenguan also looked over.

Even she was having trouble keeping up!

Under the gaze of the crowd, Yuan Li's face grew rosier and rosier, more and more… excited! Thrilled!

“Your Majesty…”

Yuan Li swallowed, first glancing at Princess Wenzhu, then organizing his thoughts before speaking:

“The specific meaning of what Lord Zhao is saying need not be fully understood, nor is it important. Your Majesty only needs to know that what Lord Zhao is saying is somewhat similar to the Chan Buddhism of the Prajna Bodhisattva school. However, the doctrines previously upheld by Prajna Bodhisattva are far less complete and perfect than what Lord Zhao has described.”

Xu Zhenguan was taken aback: “Prajna… the doctrine of sudden enlightenment that she upholds?”

Yuan Li nodded:

“Buddhist cultivation is divided into gradual enlightenment and sudden enlightenment. The Western Regions Ancestral Temple and Abbot Xuan Yin both uphold gradual enlightenment, believing that if one wants to cultivate Buddhism, one needs to accumulate merit and practice diligently over time. But Prajna Bodhisattva's inclination towards sudden enlightenment emphasizes spirituality, that one becomes a Buddha upon a moment of sudden enlightenment…

However, Lord Zhao has taken it a step further, believing that when ordinary people worship Buddha, every action in their daily lives can be a form of cultivation. Sudden enlightenment is not limited to monks in temples; even if monks are farming in the fields, they are cultivating Buddhism and can achieve sudden enlightenment…”

He quickly explained the general meaning, then said excitedly:

“However, these are not important. What I said just now, that Lord Zhao is doing something significant, truly means that this doctrine of sudden enlightenment is extremely beneficial to the court! It is also beneficial to the Western Regions!”

Princess Wenzhu's ears perked up, and Xu Zhenguan's expression turned serious:

“Lord Yuan, please elaborate!”

Yuan Li said earnestly:

“Does Your Majesty know that since the court banned Buddhism some time ago, many voices of dissatisfaction with the court have arisen among the people?”

Xu Zhenguan nodded, sighing: “Naturally, the people will have grievances when the court forbids them from worshipping Buddha.”

Yuan Li sighed:

“That is indeed the case. The practice of worshipping Buddha has continued for thousands of years, and cannot be eradicated by a single decree from the court.

Your Majesty's ban on Buddhism is not out of dissatisfaction with the gods and Buddhas, nor is it out of dissatisfaction with the Buddhist people under heaven, but rather because the monks of Shenlong Temple are acting recklessly. Your Majesty is merely punishing this group of monks with impure intentions…

But the people do not know this and will only be dissatisfied with the court… If this matter is not handled properly, it will inevitably lead to some people becoming estranged from the court…

Lord Zhao has obviously realized this, and therefore, he is using today's debate to promote instant Buddhahood and the doctrine of sudden enlightenment… Once it spreads, the people will no longer need to go to temples to worship Buddha, and the monks of the world will not necessarily have to gather in temples to cultivate…”

Yuan Li spoke euphemistically.

But the officials present were all shrewd individuals, how could they not understand?

What does Shenlong Temple fear most in the court's eyes? Is it the group of powerful cultivators led by Xuan Yin? Yes, but also no.

Because powerful cultivators can be checked and balanced.

What the court fears is the monks gathered in the temples throughout the land, which have gradually become an uncontrolled force.

It is because of this force that Shenlong Temple dared to think about swallowing the Western Regions and promoting the merger.

It was because of this power that Bodhisattva Longshu and Great Master Jing dared to take action against the court.

Therefore, after the Empress realized this, she used Zhao Du'an's assassination as an opportunity to ban Buddhism.

But if this word “ban” is not handled properly, it will be a big trouble. Shenlong Temple is easy to control in the capital, but what about the many temples in the eighteen prefectures of the nine provinces of Dayu?

Can they be blocked forever? If they are forcibly disbanded, it will be another restless force that will be used by the Eight Kings.

And the solution given by Zhao Du'an is to complete the already existing but incomplete theory of Prajna Bodhisattva's branch.

Because the saying “everyone can achieve instant Buddhahood” is too tempting for believers. Once promoted, it will be accepted by the people themselves.

And once this theory becomes established, it means that monks can practice at home and do not have to cultivate in temples, which will greatly weaken the prestige of the temples led by Shenlong Temple.

The authority to cultivate Buddhism will be dispersed from the temples to everyone.

Moreover, Zhao Du'an's loud criticism today is equivalent to telling everyone that the court's ban on Buddhism is not to prevent you from worshipping Buddha or cultivating, but to disintegrate the small group of people who control the temples.

Suppressing temple worship but opening up folk sacrifices.

It will also greatly alleviate the people's hostility towards the court.

“Therefore… Lord Zhao's actions are extremely thoughtful, solving hidden dangers for the court, calming public opinion, and also indirectly supporting Prajna…”

Yuan Li stopped there.

The escape of Great Master Jing meant that there was one less person in Shenlong Temple to check and balance Xuan Yin.

Therefore, supporting Prajna is equivalent to filling the position of Great Master Jing, so that the power in Xuan Yin's hands is still divided.

Moreover, the emergence of a new theory will make the already difficult merger of East and West even more impossible…

“Lord Zhao, this is killing many birds with one stone.”

Yuan Li sighed, his eyes complex.

Who would have thought that the small chess piece he casually promoted a few months ago could now be sincerely called “Lord” by him, the party leader?

The Empress's beautiful eyes shone brightly.

Princess Wenzhu next to her was already stunned.

“Now, only the most crucial step is missing, which is whether this statement can be recognized by the World Honored One. If it fails, I am afraid that his hard work today will be greatly reduced, or even wasted.”

Yuan Li suddenly worried.

Only then did everyone wake up.

That's right.

This is not a lecture, but a debate. If Zhao Du'an loses, then no matter how well he speaks, it will be of little significance.

Thinking of this, everyone looked at the square again.

At this moment, Zhao Du'an's long speech had come to an end.

Bianji's face had completely changed. With his intelligence, how could he not guess Zhao Du'an's sinister intentions? He couldn't help but interrupt.

“Zhao…”

“Ahem,” suddenly, the Red Sect Master spoke, preempting Bianji and asking: “As you said, how should ordinary monks practice?”

This straight man… is he cooperating with me?

Zhao Du'an glanced at the old monkey in surprise, pondered for a moment, and solemnly recited:

“Kindness nourishes parents, righteousness cherishes those above and below.

Courtesy brings harmony between superiors and inferiors, forbearance silences all evils.

If wood can be locked to produce fire, lotus flowers will surely bloom in the mud.

Bitter medicine is good, advice that grates on the ear is surely loyal.

Correcting mistakes breeds wisdom, protecting shortcomings is not virtuous.

Daily actions bring benefit, enlightenment is not achieved by giving money.”

After a pause, Zhao Du'an looked around at everyone and said calmly:

“Thus I have heard, if one sees all forms as non-forms, one sees the Thus Come One.”

The words fell.

The whole place was silent.

Suddenly, without warning, ripples rippled across the sky. The crowd looked up in surprise, only to remember that a huge Buddha head was still suspended in the sky.

In the next moment, someone exclaimed: “The World Honored One… has opened his eyes!!!”
