The Iron Throne of Ice and Fire

Chapter 309 Guardian of the East

Green raised his hand to signal, and the entire team slowly slowed down and stopped soon after.

Pulling the reins and turning the horse's head, Green shouted: "Listen to my order and assemble!"

Then, the herald's shouts came one after another, and Green's order was quickly conveyed to every Kleber blue robe.

In addition to the soldiers guarding the prisoners in the valley, more than three hundred blue-robed officers moved one after another. Blue-robed officers wearing high-feathered helmets shuttled among the ranks, directing their positions.

There was no extra sound, no chaos or crowding, and the gathering process of the Kleber blue robes was full of order.

The assembled Kleb army formation was silently solemn, like an indestructible castle.

Sir Jaime glanced at the straight and silent Kleb army formation with complicated eyes. Tyrion beside him said, "Brother, are you sorry?"

"I never regret it." Ser Jaime glanced sideways at Tyrion, who was smiling.

Joffrey's lion and deer banner fluttered, and the sound of horse hooves was heard in the distance. Kleb's soldiers began to shout in unison: "Long live the king! Long live the king! Long live the king!"

The sound seemed to resound through the sky. Joffrey's hand on the reins suddenly tightened. While slowing down the horse, he raised his chin high. He must not let others find out... that he was just a little scared. He was the king.

Green raised his hand and the shouts of the blue robes stopped. He turned his head and looked at Ser Jaime and Tyrion, then lightly kicked the horse's belly and faced them.

After riding to a distance of three horses, Green tightened the reins, stopped the horse underneath him, and looked at Joffrey. After not seeing each other for a few months, he seemed to have grown taller again and looked more like... James.

Green jumped off his tall war horse, took a few steps forward, and got down on one knee: "King Joffrey, the valley and Crab Claw Peninsula are at your disposal."

King Joffrey pursed his lips and said: "Earl Green, my warrior, you captured the traitor in the Eagle's Nest on my behalf. You did not let me down."

"Get up."

After saying that, King Joffrey jumped off his horse and came to Green, surrounded by hounds and other Kingsguards.

Green stood up and stroked his chest and said, "All glory belongs to King Joffrey."

King Joffrey nodded with satisfaction, and then asked: "Where is the Duke of the Eyrie?"

At this time, James and Tyrion, who had dismounted their horses, also arrived.

Seeing the two of them, King Joffrey curled his lips and glanced at Ser Jaime and Tyrion with contempt.

Sir James stroked his chest and said, "Your Majesty the King."

Tyrion smiled and nodded slightly.

Joffrey's handsome face suddenly distorted. He kicked the thick calf of the hunting dog Sandor Clegane and said angrily: "My dog, why don't the two of them kneel down and salute me?"

Pulling on the visor of his dog-headed helmet, Sandor replied: "King, both the big and the little are your uncles."

Hearing his answer, Joffrey kicked him again angrily: "Can uncle ignore his king? I am their king!"

Ser Jaime glanced at Tyrion and knelt down to salute.

Tyrion shrugged slightly and knelt down: "Good day, your Majesty, the great King Joffrey!"

King Joffrey then stopped teaching the hounds. He did not hear the sarcasm in Tyrion's greeting, and turned to the two men and nodded proudly.

Joffrey's eyes stayed on Jaime for a while, then he sneered and said, "Uncle Jaime, did the prison cell at Riverrun make you lose your courage?"

Seeing Sir Jaime looking up at him, King Joffrey continued in a mocking tone: "If you hadn't run away cowardly, the head of the traitor Robb Stark would have been hung in King's Landing. The door is closed! It’s because of your cowardice that you lost the perfect opportunity to get rid of the traitor, am I right?!”

Ser Jaime's lips moved. King Joffrey's sudden accusation made him unable to find the right words to explain.

Tyrion grinned: "Great King Joffrey, we only had a dozen swords at that time, and there were thousands of swords around Little Runwolf to protect him. If we really mustered up the courage, it might be possible for Little Runwolf to win." The wolf... died laughing."

He seemed to be imitating Robb: "Hey, look, are those two Lannisters fools? Haha... I laughed to death..."

He rolled his eyes: "Oh... I laughed so hard..."

Phew, in the serious atmosphere, someone couldn't help laughing.

"You! You, you, you!" King Joffrey pointed at Tyrion angrily, his fingers trembling.

Tyrion pursed his lips, a friendly smile on his face.

King Joffrey turned red, pointed at Tyrion, and ordered to Sandor: "He is laughing at me, my dog, go and kill him!"

When Sandor didn't move, he kicked and shouted: "Dog! Hurry! I'll kill him!"

Sandor remained motionless as Joffrey kicked him.

When King Joffrey stopped panting, he said: "King, he is the Chancellor of the Exchequer."

"I don't care, I'm the king!" King Joffrey kicked Sandor again.

"He is Lannister, the King." Sandor remained still.

King Joffrey's face twisted, and his red eyes looked at the other Kingsguard. But under the sharp gaze of Sir Jaime, they stopped and hesitated.

If the king was an adult, the qualified Kingsguard would not feel embarrassed, but in Joffrey's eyes, their expressions turned into cold expressions that ignored his orders.

Joffrey couldn't help but take a half step back, feeling a little timid in his heart.

The isolated King Joffrey finally remembered the loyal Earl Green, and he suddenly looked to the other side.

Seeing King Joffrey looking towards him, Lord Green understood the look at once, and he said respectfully: "I'm always at your disposal."

Then, without a trace of hesitation, Green turned his head and gestured: "The king has an order to arrest Lord Tyrion."

Seeing Green carrying out his order, King Joffrey raised his chin proudly and glanced at the people around him with contempt.

Sir Jaime stood up and stopped the two blue robes who were striding forward. He first glanced at Green...looking at the clouds, then looked at King Joffrey, and said calmly: "You shouldn't find anyone else. This is my business."

He added: "When I walked out of the cell, they were all vigilant because of the poisoning at the wedding banquet in Riverrun. We had no other chance at all. Bravery does not mean stupidity, Joffrey."

After his words fell, Joffrey said angrily: "James, you are a cowardly prisoner, why are you preaching to me?"

After speaking, he walked up to James and said arrogantly: "My father - Robert I, he can kill Rhaegar with his warhammer in the midst of thousands of troops. And you..."

After sizing up the person in front of him, King Joffrey said with ridicule in his tone, "You have no courage, you will never do it, you will only run away."

Ser Jaime clenched his fist with one hand, and with the other hand he stopped Tyrion who was about to speak.

Seeing Sir Jaime tightening his lips and not speaking, the corners of King Joffrey's mouth turned up: "A person who begged for mercy from a traitor can no longer be my guardian of the East Mirror."

Sir Jaime's voice turned cold: "I did not beg for mercy."

King Joffrey smiled contemptuously. He didn't believe Jaime's "justification" at all.

Ignoring James, he looked to the other side: "Earl Green, you followed my order and led the troops to capture the Duke of the Eagle's Nest City. I want to reward you. From now on, you will be the guardian of the East Mirror."

When Green was stunned by King Joffrey's sudden appointment, Sandor's harsh and hoarse voice sounded: "King, this kind of matter needs to be discussed in the royal council."

"I am the king and I have the final say!"

Does anyone dare to question his decision? King Joffrey is about to draw his sword, the Lion's Tooth.

Sandor pressed down his big hand to stop King Joffrey from drawing his sword, and said: "You have the final say, King."

King Joffrey snorted coldly and announced: "I, Joffrey I of House Baratheon and House Lannister, in the name of King of the Andals, the Rhoynar and the First Men, appoint Green... Kleib guards the East Mirror."

There was silence all around.

King Joffrey looked around, and finally looked at Green, who was still in a daze. His voice was a little angry: "Earl Green, are you going to disobey the king's order?"

At this moment, the atmosphere had reached this point... Lord Green had to cooperate and bowed deeply: "Your Majesty, thank you for your reward. I..."

After a pause, the corners of his mouth slightly curved, and he continued jokingly: "I will guard the eastern border of the kingdom."

After his words fell, King Joffrey, who had a strange smile, chuckled... Everyone around him was silent, which made King Joffrey's laughter a bit weird.

The kind-hearted Green turned to look at Menton and gave him a look.

Seeing the lord looking at him, Mengton blinked his slightly dull eyes and immediately laughed. His laughter brought more people... For a time, the surroundings were filled with joyful laughter.

After King Joffrey finished laughing, Green accompanied him to inspect Kleb's army.

Not long after, King Joffrey showed an impatient look.

The horse beneath him was pacing. He stretched his neck and scanned as if looking for prey: "Earl Green, where is the Duke of the Eagle's Nest City?"

Green's eyes moved slightly and said: "I will lead the way for you, Your Majesty."

Arriving in front of a carriage with ordinary decorations, King Joffrey pointed at it and said angrily: "Earl Green, what qualifications does a traitor have to ride in a carriage?!"

Green shrugged: "This ride is very expensive. The Duke of the Eagle's Nest gave me many golden dragons."

King Joffrey was startled for a moment, then held his stomach and laughed.

He laughed for a while before he stopped laughing, and then...looked at the carriage excitedly, and said: "Let the Duke of the Eagle's Nest City get out."

The carriage door was opened, and Maester Cormon, who was holding Robert Arryn, was roughly pulled out in blue robes.

Academician Ke Meng staggered several steps before he regained his balance. He bowed tremblingly.

Joffrey leaned forward and looked at Little Robert, who was being held for a while. The excitement in his eyes deepened: "Kneel down, traitor Lord Arryn."

Hearing this, Academician Kemen first put down Little Robert, knelt on the ground, and whispered: "Your Majesty, he is the king. You must kneel down and salute."

Little Robert said: "I won't kneel, I'm hungry."

Maester Colmont secretly glanced at King Joffrey who was riding on a tall horse, and said eagerly: "Please, Your Majesty, Duke, let's bow properly first, and I will find some food for you later."

"I want soft eggs and crispy bacon."

"Okay, I'll prepare it for you in a moment, you first..."

Little Robert slapped Maester Colmont's hand away and said, "No, I want to eat it now!"

Academician Kemen raised a finger in front of his lips: "Your Excellency, let's first..."

Little Robert's whole body twisted around: "No! No! I want to eat it now!"

Bachelor Ke Meng was sweating all over, and he was so anxious that he was about to cry.

"Shut up!"

Joffrey roared irritably, and Little Robert was frightened and stopped, but not long after, he screamed: "No! No! No!"

Maester Colmont wailed to Joffrey: "The Duke is still young. I beg your forgiveness, Your Majesty the King."

The screams and pleas mixed together, making it a headache.

"Shut up!"

After King Joffrey drank violently, a twisted smile appeared on his face: "My dog, go and pluck out Duke Arryn's tongue."

"As you command, King."

This time, the hound was obedient. Upon hearing King Joffrey's order, he immediately jumped off his horse and strode away.

The black shadow suddenly blocked the sunlight. When he found Sandor, who was burly and with half of his face looking rotten, approaching him, Little Robert stopped screaming.

Standing in front of Little Robert, Sandor showed a cruel expression: "Kid, if you make any more noise, I will pull out your tongue right now."

Little Robert burped.

Maester Colmont hugged the trembling little Robert tightly and said: "Your merciful Majesty, please forgive us for our offense."

Sandor took a step back and looked sideways at King Joffrey.

King Joffrey looked at the trembling little Robert, and suddenly smiled as he thought of something.

He said to the Kingsguard, Osmund Kettleblack: "Ser Osmund, go find a rope."

There was a bundle of thick rope hanging on Sir Osmond's saddle. He reached out and picked it up and said, "Your Majesty, I am ready."

"Very well, Sir Osmund, give me one end of the rope, and the other end..."

As he spoke, King Joffrey suddenly smiled and continued: "Tie the other end to Lord Arryn's neck."

Finally, he announced loudly: "I will lead Lord Arryn into King's Landing, and I will let everyone see my prisoner."

Maester Colemont tried to stop him but was pushed down by Ser Osmund. When he was about to put the rope around Little Robert's neck, Sandor's big hand appeared and stopped his movement.

King Joffrey shouted angrily: "Dog, what are you doing? Get out of my way!"

Sandor held out a little finger and replied: "His neck is too thin. You have to be careful. It won't be fun if you break it, King."

King Joffrey seemed to have listened. He frowned and thought... He also prepared many "games" to prevent little Robert from having any accidents.

After a pause, he asked: "My dog, do you have a good idea?"

Sandor Clegane pointed at Maester Cormon lying on the ground: "Tie him up and let him hold this noisy brat."

King Joffrey said angrily: "Idiot, he is not the Duke of the Eyrie!"

Green kicked the horse's belly lightly, walked forward and said, "King Joffrey, do you need to prepare a horse for you?"
