#42 - Chapter 5 Fishing Law Enforcement
As Liu Yuan had anticipated, he was followed by more than a dozen people, likely from several different factions. The Old Town was a commercial city with a large population of outsiders. One couldn't expect the rough sailors to be law-abiding citizens.
Moreover, with the onset of winter, a large number of refugees had arrived from the north. Coupled with the local gangs, the Old Town's underworld was a mixed bag. Robbing a noble's child was not a big deal for them.
Of course, this was one of Liu Yuan's goals. From the beginning, he had flaunted his wealth, luring these outlaws to show themselves. Most were just petty thugs. The real underground organizations rarely engaged in such activities.
Soon, Liu Yuan led them to a sparsely populated, narrow alley. The temporary robbers following him couldn't restrain themselves any longer and began to emerge, quickly cornering Liu Yuan in the alley.
Liu Yuan stood silently in the middle of the alley, looking ahead and then behind. There were sixteen of them in total, divided into four groups. And their relationships weren't very good; they started arguing even before the robbery.
"Ah~ ha~ ah," Liu Yuan yawned, somewhat bored, and said to them, "You guys are so slow. It's just a robbery, what's there to argue about? Why don't you just grab it first and then split it according to the number of people!"
A tall, thin man, feeling humiliated, angrily pointed at Liu Yuan and cursed, "You little bastard..." Before he could finish, a dark object landed directly on his mouth. With a "Bang!~" it shattered his teeth, spraying blood everywhere. It turned out Liu Yuan had kicked a palm-sized rock from the ground.
The thin man's companions couldn't hold back and charged forward, drawing clubs and daggers from their waists. The other groups, fearing they would lose out, also rushed in.
At that moment, the small figure suddenly pulled out two sections of a staff from the wide sleeves of his scholar's robe. He struck the faces of two people approaching him, one on the left and one on the right. The blow was powerful, and if anyone had good eyesight, they could see that one of the person's eyeballs had been knocked out of its socket. And that was considered good. In Liu Yuan's other hand was a short blade, which he used to slice off half of the other person's skull.
These people were used to fighting on the streets, and they had even caused deaths before. But they never expected someone to start killing right away. Liu Yuan didn't care what they thought. He combined the two staff sections into a spear. Using the 'Pulling Grass to Find the Snake' technique, he struck the legs of several people as he retreated, the spear's edge cutting deep wounds into their legs. Then, he turned and used a 'Returning Horse Spear' to pierce the throat of the last person.
In fact, this wasn't the first time he had used this 'fishing' tactic. Since the battle with the Brotherhood thugs, Liu Yuan had discovered that some of the system's functions might recover when he killed, and his strength would also increase to some extent.
But he wasn't a maniac and couldn't just kill innocent people, so he came up with this method. Liu Yuan used himself as bait, revealing wealth to lure these outlaws. He had no qualms about these scumbags; he could kill them without hesitation, which was also a way to maintain the city's order.
Liu Yuan pulled the spear out forcefully, and blood sprayed far away. The other robbers took a step back in unison. Six others with leg injuries were howling on the ground; their injuries were severe.
In just one exchange, two had died, eight were injured, and only six were unharmed. They had never seen anything like this. The remaining few wanted to run, but Liu Yuan was faster, darting out suddenly. He thrust the spear forward, pinning one of them to the chest. He carried him forward for a considerable distance, then retrieved the spear, leaped, and swept horizontally. The sharp spear tip severed another person's throat. He spun in the air and smashed the spear down, breaking another person's collarbone and shoulder blade.
Liu Yuan reversed the spear, using the blade to slash open the face of the person in front of him. The remaining two could no longer suppress the fear in their hearts. They turned and ran. Liu Yuan threw the spear with all his might, piercing one of them and pinning him to the ground. The last person glanced at his unfortunate companion, buried his head, and continued to run. Suddenly, he felt a chill on the back of his head. Everything went black, and he knew nothing more.
The man fell to the ground, an arrow embedded in the back of his head. The few who hadn't died turned to look. Liu Yuan was now holding a small crossbow, and he had already turned it towards them, firing bolts.
Liu Yuan didn't plan to waste any time. He quickly pulled the lever with his other hand. Bolts shot towards the wounded on the ground. At such close range, hitting unarmored targets was almost always a one-shot kill.
Liu Yuan coldly fired another bolt at the wounded on the ground. Some were kneeling and begging for mercy, while others were fighting back. A bearded man, with a sinister look, suddenly launched an attack as Liu Yuan approached, shouting, "Die!" He lunged at him with a dagger, his face contorted. But he was met with a kick to his face from Liu Yuan. Then, Liu Yuan drew the short sword from his waist and slit his throat, leaving him to die in suffocating pain.
After confirming that everyone had died, Liu Yuan began to collect the bodies and the items they had left behind. By this time, his space had reached about 120 cubic meters, about the size of a living room. When he left again, there was nothing but blood and bloodstains.
Liu Yuan's hunting operation had been going on for five months, about two or three times a month. Sometimes there were only one or two people, and sometimes there were more than twenty. The most dangerous time was when he encountered a complete seven-man mercenary team. They were not only experienced in combat, but also well-equipped. Liu Yuan relied on their underestimation of him and used the terrain to his advantage, taking great effort to kill them one by one.
The only time he didn't kill anyone was when he encountered a group of orphans. The oldest was only 15 years old, and the youngest was less than 12 years old. This aroused his compassion, and he hung the little bastards up and beat them severely. Then, he left them a sum of money, which should be enough for them to live for a short or long time. It wasn't as difficult for orphans to survive in the Old Town as it was in King's Landing; at least they didn't have to worry about becoming ingredients for 'Brown Soup' one day.
