#53 - Chapter 16: Battle of the Paradise Tower (Part 2)
Eddard Stark, having resolved the battle, immediately turned his gaze elsewhere. Gerold Hightower, having sustained significant injuries, was gradually losing his strength. In his pain-induced daze, Willem Dustin charged forward, slamming his shield against Gerold's helmet, disorienting him. Howland Reed and Ethan Glover seized the opportunity, plunging their weapons deep into Gerold Hightower's body.
As lifeblood flowed from his wounds, Gerold Hightower smiled, seeing this end as the best possible outcome. As Lord Commander of the Kingsguard, he was the king's absolute confidant, and many of the Mad King's orders were carried out by him, even the execution of Rickard Stark, where he lit the pyre. "It's all over…" he whispered faintly, his head falling forward.
"Get out!" a voice roared, as a figure darted forward. Ethan Glover was kicked away. It was Arthur Dayne, who with his right hand, raised Dawn in an upward slash towards Howland Reed.
Howland Reed felt death looming, leaping backward and bracing his fishing spear before him. The blade of Dawn sliced through the spear. Despite Howland Reed's desperate evasion, the blade still cut a bloody gash across his chest, sending him tumbling away with a scream.
Arthur Dayne caught Gerold Hightower, gently laying his body down and closing his eyes. He silently picked up Gerold's sword, twirling it in his hands. Facing Eddard and the others, he said, "Come! I will show no mercy now." Though facing five enemies, he showed no fear, holding his blades level, feet moving slowly.
Then Eddard and his companions launched their attack. He, Willem, and Martyn struck with their swords, but Arthur easily parried their blows with his twin blades. Theo Wull tried to take advantage of the situation by attacking from behind, but Arthur Dayne smashed the pommel of his sword into Theo’s nose, breaking it. The injured Ethan Glover attempted to relieve the pressure, only to have Arthur Dayne entwine his swords, severing his head, and sending a geyser of blood from his neck.
Martyn Cassel, losing his composure, charged forward, slashing horizontally from behind. Arthur Dayne ducked, twisted, and advanced instead of retreating. "Thwack!" The sword in his left hand pierced Martyn's body from below. Before the others could surround him again, he withdrew his sword and kicked the downed and groaning Theo Wull as he passed. Tears, snot, blood, and teeth mixed together as Theo vomited.
After only a few exchanges, Eddard Stark and Willem Dustin were the only ones still capable of fighting. Theo Wull’s face was a mangled mess, resembling a car crash. The Sword of the Morning lived up to its reputation as the greatest knight.
With only two opponents left, Arthur Dayne felt less pressured and controlled the pace of the fight. Willem Dustin, growing frantic under the pressure, suddenly leaped high into the air, bringing his sword down with both hands. Arthur Dayne preemptively swung his sword horizontally, slashing Willem’s chest and disemboweling him. Willem Dustin was torn open in mid-air. Blood sprayed across Arthur’s face, giving Eddard the opportunity to attack, forcing Arthur Dayne to retreat.
Eddard unleashed a dozen strikes, none of which harmed Arthur Dayne. Eddard attempted a downward chop, but Arthur Dayne blocked it. Arthur swung his other sword, knocking Eddard’s sword away, then twisted his wrist, placing the point of his blade against Eddard’s throat.
Arthur Dayne said, "Lord Eddard, it seems the Seven Gods are not on your side. You have lost!" Suddenly, a figure lunged forward, grabbing his leg. It was the injured Theo Wull, who stabbed Arthur in the abdomen with a short sword.
Arthur Dayne turned the blade in his left hand and plunged it into Theo Wull’s head, instantly ending his life. Just then, another figure darted forward, stabbing Arthur Dayne three times in the shoulder with a blade. It was Howland Reed; he was not dead after all.
Eddard seized the opportunity, rushing forward and grabbing Arthur's sword arm. Then he drew his dagger and forcefully slashed Arthur’s throat. All four fell to the ground, the intense battle having drained their strength. It was a brutal fight, leaving only Eddard Stark and Howland Reed alive.
After checking Howland Reed's injuries and finding them not serious, Eddard staggered into the Tower of Joy. No one knows what happened afterward, and even those involved remained silent. All that is known is that a few days later, Eddard traveled to Starfall, the seat of House Dayne, and returned Dawn to Arthur's sister, Ashara Dayne, as a sign of respect.
It is said that the two spoke for a long time, and on a day after Eddard left, Ashara leaped from the top of a tower called the Palestone Sword, a tower on a cliff overlooking the sea. Her body was never found. Some say she was devastated by her brother Arthur's death, while others say it was because of heartbreak.
When Liu Yuan heard the news, he deeply regretted the fate of the beautiful maiden. However, he learned that Gerien had given birth to a daughter that was entrusted to Ashara’s aunt, Yuna, and had already inherited the Dayne name as Arthur’s daughter, remaining at Starfall.

Soon after, news arrived that Robert had been crowned in King's Landing, taking the title of Robert Baratheon the First. Eddard Stark, due to his sister's death, reconciled with Robert.
Because of Lyanna's death, Robert was single again. To win over the powerful Westerlands, he married Tywin Lannister's daughter, Cersei Lannister, as queen under the guidance of the new Hand, Jon Arryn. Barristan Selmy was appointed as the new Lord Commander of the Kingsguard, while Jaime Lannister remained in the Red Keep as a Kingsguard, but he now had a notorious title: "The Kingslayer."
After Robert's coronation, Eddard Stark led his vassals and army, carrying his sister's body back to the North. He also brought back a baby boy, named Jon. At Riverrun, Catelyn Tully also bore Eddard a son, named Robb Stark.
With financial support from the Lannister family and the allegiance of other great lords, Robert's throne was secure. Only the Martell family of Dorne expressed great anger over the death of Prince Lewyn in the war and the tragic death of Princess Elia. The new Prince of Dorne, Doran Martell, refused to recognize Robert as king. Prince Oberyn Martell even led troops to attack villages and castles in the Reach and the Westerlands, though on a small scale. He even considered raising an army to support the only male Targaryen heir, Viserys Targaryen.
