#665 - Chapter 36: The Sleeping Place
At the same time, the Shenhang submarine continued its descent into the deep sea. As the powerful beams of the searchlights shone, the originally pitch-black seabed shimmered with a faint metallic luster.
Shockingly, as if responding to the approach of the Shenhang, the seabed, spanning nearly twenty square kilometers, began to emit an ethereal blue light, illuminating the surrounding jellyfish. It was a dreamlike spectacle that took one's breath away.
Standing in the command module of the Shenhang, Vivian gazed at the incredible sight before her and murmured involuntarily, "So… the legendary burial ground of Merlin has always been this enormous spaceship! It's just so huge!"
Liu Yuan, standing beside her, carefully examined the colossal object that was gradually revealing its full form, then nodded earnestly in agreement with Vivian's assessment: "Indeed, it's incredibly large, definitely the biggest spaceship I've ever seen."
At that moment, Shenhang spoke, "We've reached our destination. Look, over there is the entrance to the interior of the spaceship. I remember the last time I came here with your father, we discovered that this ship was already in a severely damaged state. Many important passages were blocked for various reasons, so your father, for safety considerations, didn't risk venturing deep inside."
Following the direction of the lights, they could clearly see the spaceship's outer shell covered in alarming signs of damage, a testament to a past battle or disaster of extreme intensity.
In many places, only a few metal supports remained, standing forlornly. These metal supports were densely covered with a thick layer of seaweed and mud, as if they had been draped in a heavy coat. This originally dilapidated scene had now become a playground for countless marine creatures.
Suddenly, a massive metal wall resembling a hatch slowly ascended, like a curtain gradually rising on a stage, revealing a deep, dark passage behind it.
Shenhang cautiously advanced along the passage, eventually successfully entering the interior of the spaceship. As the submarine moved deeper, it began to slowly ascend. Even more surprisingly, there seemed to be an ample supply of air here, completely lacking the stifling, suffocating atmosphere one might expect.
Hot Rod eagerly leaped out of the submarine, shaking his body incessantly, trying to shake off the seawater clinging to him, while muttering in complaint, "Ugh, I hate seawater! I feel like I'm rusting all over. Hmph, I swear I'll never go into the sea again!" Countless amounts of seawater poured out of his body, even carrying out a few small fish and shrimp along with it.
Just then, a "creak… crack!" sound echoed. Hot Rod abruptly turned around, astonished to see the submarine undergoing an astonishing transformation. The submarine rapidly transformed, instantly turning into a towering humanoid figure. Shenhang used its hands to steadily support Liu Yuan and Vivian, then gently placed them on a platform not far away.
After completing this series of actions, Shenhang exclaimed with great emotion, "If I calculate correctly, it seems I haven't transformed in a full hundred years!" At this time, Shenhang's height was a full 33 meters, almost as large as Devastator, but it appeared more slender and graceful. It looked like its legs were actually a thick fishtail, making it a mermaid figure.
Vivian exclaimed in amazement, "So this is the truth behind the legend of the mermaid!"
Liu Yuan: "Existence is reasonable, and myths are not entirely fictional, which is why there are many similarities in legends around the world."
Shenhang moved its limbs and pointed to the passage on the left, saying, "Go this way. Your father went to the other side before, and it's a dead end. I can't go any further on the road ahead; you'll need to go on your own."
"I'm here! I'll protect Vivian," Hot Rod jumped out, patting his chest, making a loud "thump" sound!
Vivian glanced at Hot Rod, no longer angry with him, and then they walked toward the passage that Shenhang had pointed out. This shows the benefit of bringing Hot Rod, the big lights on Hot Rod's shoulders illuminated the road ahead, the metal walls in the passage reflected strange light, and from time to time, there were some slight buzzing sounds from the end.
As they walked, the passage ahead collapsed, blocking the way, and faint rays of light appeared from the cracks.
"I'll do it!" Hot Rod volunteered to step forward, forcefully lifting the section of metal pipe, revealing a gap that could accommodate two people.
Liu Yuan put his arm around Vivian and slipped in, waving to Hot Rod, "We'll go in first, be careful yourself, and catch up later."
They didn't know how long they walked, but they came to a hall with huge metal statues displayed on both sides of the corridor. They came to the center of the hall, where there were two kneeling knight statues facing each other, and the light shining above them made them look very holy.
"Huh? These are actually Celtic characters!" Vivian found something special at her feet. She squatted down to check, but just as her hand touched the metal floor, "Buzz!" The sound of electricity passing through, some strange symbols seemed to appear. Vivian curiously touched these symbols. Suddenly, the floor in the center of the room recessed, and a metal coffin floated up and fit perfectly with the previous floor.
Liu Yuan: "It seems we've found it. This is where Merlin is buried. Do you want to continue?"
Vivian: "I'm so close to the truth; how could I give up?" She walked excitedly to the coffin and stroked the inscriptions and carvings on it, muttering softly, "No one can use Merlin's staff." She subconsciously reached out to push the coffin lid, but the heavy coffin lid didn't budge.
Liu Yuan stepped forward, raised his hand and pressed it on the coffin lid, saying, "Let me do it!" Then he slowly pushed the coffin lid open. Under the light above, the situation inside was clear at a glance. Although more than 1000 years had passed, Merlin's remains were still relatively intact, but it was just a mummy. The burial objects inside were also decayed in the humid environment. The only item that could be considered complete was the… wooden staff in his hand!
Liu Yuan curiously picked up the wooden staff. It was very light and didn't seem to have anything hidden inside. He said, "This is the legendary staff, take it. It belongs to you."
