#80 - Chapter 5: The Skinner's Plot (Part 2)
Suddenly hearing this, Guger was also stunned for a moment. He said, "Respected sir, are you sure you want to buy this savage? He hasn't been tamed yet, and he's still a bit dangerous..."
Liu Yuan waved his hand to interrupt him, saying, "No need to say all that. Name a price, I'll buy him. I have ways to make him listen."
Guger held up five fingers, then extended half of another hand, saying, "Ten thousand Tarks (rhomboid iron coins, with the three-headed god of Tyrosh depicted on the face)! You know, such strong slaves are rare. If trained well, they'll be excellent war slaves! And he caused trouble earlier, so I have to pay the city guard a fee for that."
Liu Yuan asked, "How much is ten thousand Tarks?"
Bandier said, "Well, converted, it's less than thirteen gold dragons."
This price wasn't low. His armor from eight years was only worth six gold dragons.
Liu Yuan then said to the slave trader, "Alright, let's write up the documents! I'll buy him. Bandier, go with him to take care of the paperwork."
He was too lazy to haggle over a dozen gold coins. The gold dragons of Westeros were large and hefty, and their purchasing power on the continent of Essos wasn't low.
Many merchants liked to collect gold dragons and silver stags, except for the Dothraki, of course.
Guger smiled obsequiously, "Thank you for your generosity, sir! Please wait a moment, I'll go get the key!"
"No need to trouble yourself! I'll do it myself..." Liu Yuan leaped onto the platform, and with a flash of cold light from his drawn blade, "Clang~ Clang~", the chains and iron rings on Grig were severed.
Grig momentarily lost his balance and slumped down, but he took a step forward and straightened up again.
Liu Yuan turned around, sheathed his blade, and said to the giant with his back turned, "If there's nothing else, follow me."
Grig shook his head to clear his mind, then strode towards the slave trader.
Guger watched the giant walk towards him, his heart almost jumping out of his throat.
Then a large hand swept past him, targeting a clay jug next to him.
Grig tilted his head back and gulped down water, "Glug glug~", pouring even more water over his head.
Grig threw down the empty jug, glared fiercely at the slave trader, and strode after Liu Yuan.
Bandier smiled wryly, handing the money bag to Guger, "Don't mind him, capable people tend to have a bit of a temper."
Guger smiled ingratiatingly, "Safe travels, sir. If you need anything, please consider my business."
................................
Liu Yuan's group circled through the market and arrived at the inn.
Grig's tall stature, tattered clothes, and full body of scars were quite conspicuous.
The fierce man was surprisingly quiet, silently following Liu Yuan despite his injuries.
Back at the inn, Liu Yuan said to the owner. Prepare food and water for my men, and let them take a good bath. If you have any wound medicine, prepare some for that big guy.
Then he turned to the others and said, "Everyone, go back and rest! Bandier, bring Grig to my room after he's cleaned up."
Bandier patted Grig's arm, mainly because he was too tall to pat on the shoulder without it being awkward.
Smiling, he said, "Let's go! I'll take you to take a bath first, then we'll have a good meal."
..............................
An hour later, in the VIP bedroom on the third floor of the inn.
Liu Yuan was sitting on the balcony, where the view was excellent. The tea table in front of him was filled with fruits and wine.
Bandier and Grig stood respectfully to the side. Grig had cleaned himself up and changed into a set of clothes, but he was too tall, and there were no clothes that fit him.
Bandier's clothes were stretched to the point of almost tearing when Grig wore them.
Liu Yuan raised his hand and pressed down, saying, "You've arrived. Sit down. I have some things I want to ask you. Can you tell me in detail why you were captured by the slave traders, and why the Bolton family was involved?"
They both sat down, and Bandier poured him a glass of wine.
Grig pursed his lips. "I want to thank you again for saving me. My father, Ryder, is the leader of the Stern clan. The situation on Skagos Island is currently chaotic. The Magnar clan of Kingshouse has suddenly begun to expand, and has already annexed several smaller clans that were subordinate to the Crowl clan. My father believes they must have received support from northern lords from the mainland."
He picked up the cup and took a sip. It was sweet and sour with a fruity fragrance, a drink he had never tasted before.
Grig continued, "About four months ago, a group claiming to be from the Bolton family came to Driftwood Hall. They hoped we would pledge allegiance to the Bolton family, and the envoy offered many generous conditions, mainly providing large quantities of weapons and food, but my father sternly refused."
The story that followed was very cliché. The Magnar clan, the strongest of the three clans, had already been persuaded. The Crowl clan of Deepdown was at war with the Magnar clan. Naturally, they wouldn't let the Stern clan pick up any advantages on the side. During an important hunting expedition, Grig's hunting party was ambushed by the enemy.
The Magnar men were the ones who attacked, and they had many more steel weapons. There were even warriors with flayed man sigils on their armor who joined the attack on his party.
Most of the people in the party were killed. The survivors were originally intended to be sacrificed. The custom of live sacrifice is still practiced on Skagos Island. They eat the entrails of prisoners of war, believing that this will gain them the enemy's strength. But the Bolton envoy thought this was too wasteful, so they sold these people to merchants on ships.
After that, they were resold to other merchants. The fate of the remaining people is unknown. Only Grig's good physique allowed him to recover quickly.
Liu Yuan tapped the table lightly with his finger, his mind racing.
Judging from the timeline, the Game of Thrones story should be in the year that Joffrey is 12 years old, which is around 298 AC.
He didn't expect that Roose Bolton had already gotten involved with Skagos Island, and was hiding it from Winterfell. What was he planning?
The stoneborn used to cross the Bay of Seals to trade or raid with the mainland.
Brandon Stark IX sailed to the island and burned all their ships.
He forbade them from going to sea again, and after that these stoneborn rarely left their islands.
About a hundred years ago, the Magnar clan, the paramount lords of Skagos Island, rebelled against Winterfell.
The rebellion lasted for many years before it was quelled, and the war also claimed the life of Barthold Stark, the Duke of Winterfell, and hundreds of his warriors.
Since then, Skagos Island has basically severed ties with the mainland, and only nominally belongs to Winterfell.
