The Legend of Harry Potter Schoolmaster
Chapter 4 Gringotts
"Three up—two across—" Jon muttered softly as he tapped the brick three times with his fingers.
The door to Diagon Alley didn't appear as he had imagined; the walls didn't respond.
"What's going on?" Jon couldn't help frowning, remembering Hagrid in the original book, wasn't that how he opened the door to Diagon Alley?
"I'll try it!" Eric leaned over and knocked on the brick three times in the same way.
Still no response.
Jon suddenly remembered that Hagrid in the original book knocked on this wall with his umbrella (wand)... But he hasn't bought a wand yet!
Just about to turn around and call Tom, the owner of the Leaky Cauldron, back and ask him for help.
Suddenly, he heard the sound of leather boots stepping on the floor... Then, a middle-aged man in glasses, a briefcase, and a suit, humming the tune of "Nelson's Song", strode out come over.
"Doctor Granger?" Eric, who was beside him, shouted in surprise.
"Oh, God, Mr. Hart!" The middle-aged man adjusted his glasses with an unbelievable expression: "I can actually see you here."
"I'm surprised too!"
The two elders exchanged greetings immediately.
After a few chats, the middle-aged man seemed to remember something, and then took out a small wooden stick from his briefcase.
He tapped the wall twice with a small wooden stick... The brick he tapped shook and began to move, a small hole appeared in the middle, and the hole became bigger and bigger, and soon there was a brick in front of them. A wide archway leads to a winding cobblestone street with no end in sight.
"I suppose, Mr. Hart, you've come to Diagon Alley too?" asked Dr. Granger.
"Diagon Alley, it seems so." Eric smiled: "Doctor Granger, I didn't expect you to be a wizard."
Eric starts introducing the middle-aged man to Jon:
Wendell Granger, a well-known dentist in London, Eric has seen several times with him and helped him with a patient dispute; the two are old friends and have a good relationship. good.
"Me, a wizard?" Mr. Granger was stunned for a moment, then shook his head and said with a smile: "I'm not a wizard, my daughter is a wizard, and I just took her wand! You should be the same. Come on, Mr. Hart!"
"That's right!" Eric nodded with a smile: "This is my son Jon, who was accepted to a wizarding school called 'Hogwarts'."
"Hello, Mr. Hart!" Granger bent down and shook hands with Jon, then said to Eric, "My daughter is also a student at Hogwarts, she was admitted last year...today I brought her here and she needed a new robe and some books, so she asked me to go to the Leaky Cauldron for a drink and pick her up at Mrs. Malkin's robe at three."
While talking, Granger looked at his watch: "I think I have half an hour to take you around Diagon Alley first."
Then, the three walked into the Leaky Cauldron.
Two adult men in suits, as well as a child in sportswear, shuttled among a group of wizards in black robes. It was indeed a bit obvious and many times attracted attention.
Mr Granger seemed accustomed to the look: "I think wizards rarely touch us, so it would be strange to see us, they usually call us 'Muggles', which I don't think is a polite term. …”
"Mr. Hart, I suggest you go to Gringotts, the wizards' bank; there, you can exchange sterling for 100 Galleons, the currency of the wizards!" Granger, who was "coming over", began to give Their father and son introduced.
"100 Galleons?" Jon suddenly noticed something.
"Yes, the exchange rate is 5:1, but the upper limit is 100 Galleons." Mr. Granger continued to introduce: "We are here, and Gringotts is in front!"
Led by Mr. Granger, they came to a snow-white building that stood high above the surrounding shops. Beside the shiny bronze gate, stood a goblin in a scarlet and gold uniform.
The leprechaun is a head shorter than Jon, wearing a peculiar dress with pointed fingers sticking out.
"Welcome, Mr. Thumpak, are you probably going to withdraw money from your vault? Hurry up and come in..." The goblin's voice was quite sharp, and he was welcoming a wizard in front of Jon and them.
"Oh, the two Muggles..." When the goblin's eyes moved to Jon and his party, the expression on his face was a bit disgusting.
"This is Mr. Jon Hart, a freshman at Hogwarts. He needs to exchange Muggle currency for some wizard currency!" Mr. Granger said softly, as if he didn't see the goblin's expression.
"Go to Borg, he is in charge of this!" The goblin said coldly: "Go in and count the sixth counter on the left."
"Let's go!" Mr. Granger smiled helplessly at their father and son: "As I said, we are not very welcome here."
At the sixth counter from the left, here stands a young-looking goblin.
"Hello..." Eric cleared his throat.
"It looks like he's here to exchange money..." The young goblin Borg didn't look up at all: "Just tell me your name..."
"Jon Hart!"
"It seems to be on the list..." The goblin stretched out her finger and tapped the ledger in front of her: "Okay, no problem..."
Then, it stretched out two fingers and handed over a purse, as if afraid of getting dirty.
Eric took the purse with an unsightly expression, and took out a £500 note from his pocket.
The goblin took the bill and threw it into his cabinet without even looking at it.
"Can I only exchange for 100 Galleons?" Jon asked again after glancing at the goblin.
"Yes, Mr. Hart!" The goblin raised his head, facing Jon, his attitude seemed to be much better: "In fact, this fund is sponsored by Hogwarts, from first year to In seventh grade, this time of year, you can redeem the same amount!"
After speaking, there was an ugly smile on its face: "Don't you think that those stupid Muggle currencies will be of any use to us?"
The goblin is right, an adult wizard, whether using illegal or legal means, can easily get a large sum of Muggle currency... If you can really let Galleons and British pounds be exchanged at will , and may even have serious consequences.
...
The three walked out of Gringotts.
Mr. Granger looked at his watch: "I think it's almost three-thirty... Mr. Hart, would you like to go to Mrs. Malkin's robe shop with me, maybe let my daughter and your son get to know each other in advance. "
"I'm honored, Mr. Granger!" Jon suddenly stood up and said innocently: "But it seems a little late now, I want my father to buy robes and textbooks, and I need to go first Buy a wand...I just heard a wizard say it takes a long time to buy a proper wand..."
As he spoke, Jon smiled a little embarrassedly: "I think it won't be long before I can meet Miss Granger at school; I'm sorry for being a little late today."
"It's okay." Mr. Granger nodded generously: "Then you can go buy a wand, it does take a lot of time... The wand store, I remember it's over there..."
